Well, to be honest I didn't attribute the lyrics to them for two reasons. One, when someone gives the attribution I always find it annoying (like they're saying "Heres what you SHOULD be listening too moron. Turn off that shit you're listening to right now and listen to THIS instead"). Secondly, I very strongly doubt the band would have any issues with my use of their lyrics. For those reasons, I did not attribute them. Perhaps this was in error.
The lyrics are funny because they are ridiculously over the top. We're talking about a band named CANNIBAL CORPSE. Do you really think they take themselves seriously or expect others to take them seriously? Do you think anyone spouting off nonsense like in my sig expects people to take those words seriously? I'm not looking to degrade women. I'm obviously 100% opposed to unnecessary violence perpetuated on people. Does that mean I can't enjoy violent music/movies etc? Does that mean I couldn't have my sig be "remember that part from zombie when the zombie impaled that chick's eye on the giant splinter? That was cool" because it implies that I think people should have their eyes impaled on giant splinters?
I have no interest in being part of the 'community' of people who typically post on slashdot. Nonsense like this would further my opinion on this if that were possible. People chose to mod my post down not because of the post itself but because of peripheral information. That is NOT respecting one's freedom to communicate but rather is choosing some arbitrary standard by which to judge any text posted by the user. If cyborg_monkey posted a truly insightful comment would you 'not take him seriously' and not mod it up because he showed a temporary change of heart?

Freedom of speech is about giving people the freedom to express themselves in any reasonable way. They KKK gets to have parades down Main St--they aren't relegated to some side alley. Just because the mayor of a city finds their views distastful doesn't mean they have less of a right to express themselves with equal freedom as those who hold popular views. If they were forced to hold their rally in a less trafficked part of the city they would still have freedom to express themselves but they wouldn't have equal opportunity. That is what I am objecting to--based on peripheral information about myself I was denied an equal opportunity to express myself.
You say certain opinions have no place on this board. What about the guys who have sigs talking about how the supreme court 'ran out the clock' on the presidential election. How is that so much more valid of an opinion? I, personally, do find that sig offensive. I'm sure there are people a lot more conservative than I am who find it offensive as well. Should I mod posts made by such a person down, regardless of content, based on his sig?
Oh, and regarding wearing shirts saying that quote... I don't have any with that text on it but I am wearing a Macabre shirt for the Dahmer album (it has a big picture of Jeff Dahmer's face on the front)... other than from my mom, I've never gotten any comments... I find this shirt way more offensive than my sig... perhaps you're just hypersensitive...
