I believe in this case, it means toward mental (e.g. emotion, feeling, etc.) rather than physical (e.g. touch). Can you really describe how you "exactly feel" when someone punch you? If you can, I guess you can program a machine to understand it too.
How can it be the first if they've held it 25 times before?
If you don't know, you should read TFA. Or if you really don't want to do that, you need to think a bit when you see all cap English word in a normal English sentence. The word FIRST is an acronym of "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology."
..., buying computers and internet access for students who can't afford it (like many in the inner city schools), since all the books, etc are now e-books (not necessarily a bad thing).
If you are talking about spending money from taxpayers, then I would disagree with this part. I would rather provide free access to computers and Internet access to all students. There will be issues if buying/giving computers and Internet access to only certain group of students. Providing free access to all would be more fair to everyone.
First, you need to read the court document from TFA -- https://www.ftc.gov/system/fil... -- and you would find out that the issue occurred in or around 2012.
quotes from the document
Amazon has received many complaints from adults who were surprised to find themselves charged for in-app purchases made by children
In March 2012, Amazon introduced a password prompt feature for in-app charges of $20 or more. (...) This initial step did not include charges below $20 or charges that, in combination, exceeded $20.
In August 2012, the FTC notified Amazon that it was investigating its in-app billing practices....
In October 2012, Amazon released software entitled Kindle FreeTime, which allowed parents to control tablet usage by children in a variety of ways....
In May 2013, Amazon added a password requirement for all first-time in-app purchases on Kindle Fire tablets....
In June 2013, Amazon changed the configuration of the AppStore so that the words “In-App Purchasing” would appear on an app’s description page:
To date, Kindle devices of the “First Generation,” for which software updates are no longer available, enable customers to make in-app purchases of $1 or less without authorization via entry of a password.
That said, when was the link you posted was up for the search? Would any parents need to search BEFORE they give a Kindle to their kids? If they need to, what make them think they need to? Not everyone has the same level of thought to predict what will happen in the future, so they need to find a way to prevent the situation.
Anyway, I checked online with a website which archive a lot of web page. The first date it recorded the page you mentioned is on July 11, 2014 -- http://web.archive.org/web/201... -- which is quite late compared to the time the issue had firstly occurred. See what I am going?
In conclusion, no one should be SJW and said it is every parents' fault. I am sure there are some who are at fault, but I believe majority are suffered because Amazon didn't try to properly solve the issue. Or Amazon was incompetent in solving the issue. Who knows?
Hmm... Some other countries pay double interest rate for saving than GS.;)
By the way, if you are far from retirement and do not need to worry about liquid asset (cash), it would be better off in a long run to invest money than put in a saving account. Just a thought...
Indeed. My statistics are rusty, but with only 50 participants it seems unlikely you could legitimately claim a general accuracy above maybe a mid-to-high 90 percentile...
Indeed, you would be correct under an assumption that the samples are equally biased/unbiased. I would actually want to see more than just one test. I would want to see them doing the similar research on 25 identical twins from various region as well. That would at least address whether their method is accurate and how well it does.
Err, no it won't happen under any politicians who talk about it. The probability that it will not happen goes up higher when a politician talks more and make a big deal about the reform. I can't believe that there are so many people who never learn about how politicians are...
The link to lawsuit you provided has NOTHING to do with what you said in the first half (which is more important). However, the way you said implies that Google/Twitter are sharing secret with the world. Whether or not they share your secret, you can't use the link as your proof.
The only thing from the link I would assume is that Twitter scans any messages for URL and converts those long URL to a shorter version of its own. That does not prove that the message is being shared to the world.
From the link
If a user privately tells a follower through the service to check out a story on nytimes.com, providing a full URL, Twitter will modify this into a custom link such as “http:/t.co/CL2SKBxr1s” (while still displaying the text “www.nytimes.com” to its users).
Turning theory into practice is what lab classes and assignments are supposed to be all about,...
There is no "lab" classes for junior and senior core courses in CS afaik. You have to find your own time working on assignment/project. Computer security is more on practical aspect, not theory. Of course, there are many courses in CS that can be used as building blocks in security, but that does not mean CS should be teaching a direct course for computer security. Furthermore, computer security is a very deep subject to be taught and would require a lot more knowledge before one can take the course. The one needs to have vast and quite deep knowledge before the one could understand what should be done. In other words, computer security is NOT as simple as many people think.
Most, if not all, assignments in school have certain specifications. When a teacher/professor assign an assignment/project to you, what you need to do is to meet those objectives in order to get full credit. Adding more specifications are not required and may not earn you extra credits. Also, test crashing is NOT security but rather to find bugs in your program. Crashing != Security. Sanitising input is NOT for security purpose but to ensure that your program can and will work properly. Security is just a side effect.
If you are talking about old traditional way of compiling language, then you are correct -- well coded gives better speed. However, nowadays, you don't know what your code will look like after it is compiled due to compiler optimization. As long as algorithm is correct, different coding style may not have much impact on the outcome speed (but does not mean it will be equal to or faster than a well coded ones).
Please stop labeling or inserting political bias into any discussion. A discussion should NOT BE pulled to involve politic.
I actually think why should people post personal things on the public Internet anyway? If they want anyone to see their personal thought, then accept consequences because it is no longer "personal" but rather becomes public. Also, why do they think that Facebook is that PERSONAL in the first place?
You need to read the PDF link in the summary. It tells you everything about how it works. It also describes that both broker and the visa seeker know exactly what they are doing (intend to come here illegally). Below is a portion of the content.
To catch these recruiters, HIS developed an undercover investigative strategy that involved the creation of a school called the University of Northern New Jersey or UNNJ.... agents posing as corrupt administrators. The school had no instructors or educators; it had no curriculum; and no actual classes or educational activities ever occurred there.
As the complaints allege, once word got out, brokers descended on the school, clamoring to enroll their foreign student clients. But as the complaints also allege, the defendants did so while fully aware that those clients wouldn’t be attending any classes at the university, wouldn’t be furthering their educational goals, and wouldn’t be getting a degree. Instead, UNNJ was just another stop on the “pay to stay” tour.
Sounds like you did not pick the employment base sponsorship, huh? Because if you did, you wouldn't need to look for a way to get a green card. Normally, you would know about employment base green card when you enter into an agreement with your employer (being hired). If you are working and have a good relationship with your employer, either you would ask them to sponsor or they would offer to sponsor you. I am guessing you choose the married route which might have come from your attorney suggestion because it is the EASIEST route for attorney to file for you but is actually illegal.
Look who is talking. Nice try to spin the context. Ironically, the bully (came out/support a discrimination law) is crying out that he/she is being bullied (the law would be taken down by court ruling).
People want to believe that an outsider can make things better, since the insiders keep screwing things up.
That's only a part of the reasons. If people really want to believe that an outsider can make things better, they would have thought further than just that. They would have looked at how the person would do to make things better from the person's both past and present speech & action, not from the person words coming out of his mouth. They would have determined what consequences are if they elect the person, not what the person promises and spout vaugely proposal that doesn't represent a well thought solution but rather a pay back time.
The reason people want to believe is because the person represents their anger. They believe that the person could do something to "revenge" what they think they want to do right now but don't have resources or power to do so. They simply let anger blind their mind and judgment. They don't think further than get-back-at-you type of action. In other words, they are looking for a short term satisfaction to please themselves and do not care or look further toward long term consequence. Think about when you are very angry at someone, and then you punch the person first and knock the person down. How do you feel at the moment you punch the person? Of course, satisfaction. Then the long term consequence could be that the person sue you back for a lot of money than you expected. That's why anger can blind your judgment...
My friend who used to work for ITT Corp told me that ITT Corp removed itself from ITT Tech -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... (History) -- in 1999 due to their down fall in education. The ITT Corp did not want their reputation to be destroyed by being involved with ITT Tech. Maybe it is true?
True, but if you're spending four years of your life learning how a particular machine works, at some point you'd think you'd learn how to turn the darn thing on.
Not exactly. CS program emphasizes on algorithm and concepts (not on programming and/or hardware). Some people do not have a budget to tinker with their machine (or any other machines) in order to learn more about hardware even though it should be a side interest for them from the CS program. However, some (if not most) for-profit schools aren't teaching anything emphasis of the program that at all but rather irrelevant courses for more money.
so your arguement falls flat on its face hard
Why does it? I don't get it.
Well, if you really think a little harder, the GP has pointed out that the "lawyers" you are talking about and/or trust them to do the work cause the whole leak issue. Thus, you wasted money on them and they couldn't do the job right.
And $1000 is worth A LOT for many families around the world. Many of them do NOT own a house. Also, many who own a home pay less than $3000 or NONE for their property taxes (in some countries, you pay for the house and land once, and you do NOT pay taxes on the property again). These amounts may be a peanut to you, but they are NOT to many others. Thus, not everybody can do it because they are "too lazy to do the paperwork" as you claimed. Some others who replied to you earlier have already pointed out reasons of why many others can't do. You are using your self as a standard in your answer, and that is a very bad sample.
Per a link -- http://www.theguardian.com/new... -- which is linked by TFA, "Are all people who use offshore structures crooks?" and the answer is NO because there are other legitimate (non-abuse) reasons to do so. "Are some people who use offshore structures crooks?" and the answer is YES. A simple way to explain it for me is that these some people know how to abuse the system and they do.
You need a minimum of three points to unambiguously triangulate a position. I really can't see why this is "news", three or more sensitive microphones placed in the area could also be used to locate individuals by their fart noises and the speed of sound, the question is why bother when there are more practical ways to do the same thing?
If you read the paper (in PDF), you would see that they did use a form of Triangulation in order to figure location. It is stated in the 2nd step (using distance between 2 antennas).
Chronos follows a two-step procedure. In the first step, Chronos refines the distance measurements by utilizing geometric constraints, imposed by the relative locations of the antennas on the access point and the client. In the second step, Chronos formulates a quadratic optimization problem, based on the refined distances to get the accurate location of the client with respect to the access point.
Mathematically, we denote the separation between antenna i and antenna j on the access point... Chronos uses a relaxed version of triangle inequality to eliminate erroneous distance measurements.
What do you mean "feel".
I believe in this case, it means toward mental (e.g. emotion, feeling, etc.) rather than physical (e.g. touch). Can you really describe how you "exactly feel" when someone punch you? If you can, I guess you can program a machine to understand it too.
