That may be true of society as a whole, but Geeks generally are much more altruistic because they regard achievement as more than just the amount of capital genereated.
What happens if it blew up 20 seconds after takeoff and spreads said "unspecified" stuff over los angeles. Could it damage ground water/the lungs of 1.6 million people?
Oh great, so when an "unspecified" agency launches an "unspecified" payload from an "unspecified" rocket in the middle of an "unspecified" location, we might have an "unspecified" problem aboard the rocket and have"unspecified" consequences that will spew "unspecified" elements in the athmosphere and cause "unspecified" damages to an "unspecified" number of people in "unspecified" countries.
I wish more web programmers read indepths books about the programming languages they use, then follow the dos and don'ts, understand the "right" way to do something (there's more than one way to do it, granted, because the "right" way in one situation may not be the "right" way in another) and also got away from the idea that "it renders on the screen ok therefore I can move on to something else idea", because this just leads to sloppy engineering.
Actually, he decided to ask real human beings. can you imagine? The Insolence! He probably has real sex, not just the irc kind. (/me gropes about. hehe:)

MIcrosoft may not close, but they retire their product so fast it's impossible for us to keep up.
We have just begun deploying win2kpro to our workstations, and win2k is now "retired" in favor of XP... Arrgghhh!!!
But if the servers are not controlled solely by Microsoft, then who else would have that? IBM? Apple? DELL? USARMY? The French goverment? The Japanese Government? The Saudi Government? The Israeli Government? The Palestinian Authority? The Kyrgystan Government?
In that case, I tell you what: I will go back to pen and paper, because my computer (that I paid for with MY money) will then just be an extension of the government's efforts to suppress free speech and track down terrorists)
And I can nearly guarantee that world governments will get access to Palladium Control Servers, because of the War Against Terror. Think: MI5 in UK, etc.
Offside but still about conservation and noise. Has anyone ever figured out how to combine a lawnmower and one of those three-wheel sit down bikes I see around here? Use the pedaling motion 90% for the blade, 10% for going forward?
Now the radio stations that Advertise their product (payola notwithstanding) are also the Evil ones.
I wonder who else is there to piss off... Artists have been raked over the coals already... I guess that leaves the shareholders of the media conglomerates.
Look for large accounting scandals and dismal profit warnings...
Seppuku is not viable business plan.
On an aside: Anyone know of a list of recording labels that do not belong to the RIAA?
Then go to Target or Walmart or K-mart (Big-K?) and buy a $90 boombox, put it on the counter, insert CD, press play, and enjoy your tunes while the cappucino machine.
I suggest, however, that the poster wants to be able to play the tunes while the customers are in the house. I say: they need to be fired, because they expose their corporation to lawsuit and potentially embarrassing headlines.
Is this little project part of a greater payload, one involving a military satellite with ultra-top-secret payload?
If I was them in 50,000 years...
Actually, people in 500-1000 years are going to go up there and remove all the stinking satellites in orbit because they will interfere with starship lauches.
And they probably would laugh their head off finding our pathetic attempt at imparting wisdom from the distant past, and yet be not amused at all by our propensity to put junk in space for no other reason than to stroke our own egos...
The point is that there's a marketing ploy somewhere. Someone is selling movie tickets, sodas, or cars behind this one...
It's actually super-simple. Microsoft wants to be the only company in the world to provide software to run on the hardware that has the Windows (or any derivative thereof) operating system on it.
Just like Ford Motor Company has complete control of what software runs in its cars, likewise microsoft wants complete control of what runs under windows.
In hebrew, perhaps, but in the KJV, it's "Thou shalt not kill", and the KJV is 75% of what preachers in America use from the pulpit, so that's the authoritative one in the USoA. Remembering that GW is from Texas is a good thing in that context.
As far as other translations, I personnaly prefer "la Bible de Jerusalem" (yes it's in French).
And thanks for pointing that out in hebrew, and about the Tolkien bit.
But that's besides the point. If some killing by man is OK by God, then I definitely don't want to be associated with this god, and thus I am against the "under God" item in the pledge.
A central server that hackers won't like. Can you say DoSA?
You mean like the GPL?
So Gates=Mugabe?
Or have I go my analogies crossed again?
True. Am Microsoft-based developer. vb, asp, etc...
Am switching to python/php and postgresql.
Why?
-Multiplatform.
-ease of long term maintainability.
-No Licensing nightmare.

Will it be in this case?
How will we know?
Is it part of the "unspecified" design changes in the "unspecified" payload?
Oh great, so when an "unspecified" agency launches an "unspecified" payload from an "unspecified" rocket in the middle of an "unspecified" location, we might have an "unspecified" problem aboard the rocket and have"unspecified" consequences that will spew "unspecified" elements in the athmosphere and cause "unspecified" damages to an "unspecified" number of people in "unspecified" countries.
Dang, talk about precision warfare.
Because there's a pile of gun-toting rednecks who are going to take up that battle a lot more efficiently that a bunch of sysadmins in the big room.
Remember Bush is from Texas. People in Texas understand the dynamics behind a population that has 4 times more guns than children.
OK. All female sysasmins get their day.
:)
No hugs, however, (see H.R. Directive 69)
No flowers. Cash only.
No cards with flowers.
Hardware gifts only from male sysadmins.
Male sysadmins get to buy hardware for female sysadmins. That should make everyone happy
/me rotflmao
dang, good memories flood back... brain freeze... werk werk werk (ultra obsure ref, nevermind)
Amen to that.

and let's not forget those who believe all can be easily solved in Counterstrike with an AWP and a Desert Eagle

Actually, the profit is not what is at stake. Microsoft doesn't want to lose money in OTHER countries after they follow in Peru's path.

You want proof? You can't handle the proof.

Is it?
Is this nation really under God?
Does the nation follow the laws of God?
We have the death penalty in America. God said: Thou shalt not kill.
We punish the guilty. God says: forgive on another.
and also, God says: Vengence is mine.
Are we misleading people about the true nature of God and His commands to us?
God, if he were here, now, in the flesh, as they say, would probably go to the temple and whip the moneychangers (accountants).
