Web pages appear startlingly quickly: nytimes.com pops open in about 1 second (versus 2), Amazon is ready in 2 seconds (versus 4) and MSN appears in 6 seconds (versus 8).
Originally, yes. Although, they have always projected the image of a portal - and lately, they seem to be trying to be a media company + portal, more than anything else.
Taco, the sectional updates seem to have a two pixel thick green line on top that gives it a chopped off look. While it is a design opinion, have you looked at alternate designs, like leaving it out altogether (the green lines, that is). It looks particularly odd for the red/green combo.
I've always felt that having to browse separate sections of Slashdot was a little painful, and a way to know if new articles were posted in certain sections of interest would be neat.
This is a really cool feature and a much needed one. Props, folks!
I was going to moderate you but decided to reply instead.
His past comments and recommendations have no bearing on what Apple did - i.e., not adhere to a standard in one of their implementations.
You could go on blaming him and finding fault (well, it's an Apple discussion, who expected anything else), but it doesn't change anything. How do his opinions and past comments change what Apple has done?
It does not, and these kinda strawman arguments don't change a damn thing.
You're right. It's hard for some of us not to look at grammatical or spelling errors and wince. Quite honestly, just how hard is it to read through something and check for the odd mistake? An occasional mistake or two is not a big deal, but the fact that Slashdot editors seem apathetical to this practice is what annoys me.
As a subscriber, there have been several times when I've pointed out mistakes, but they're seldom corrected.
The reason some of us hate errors is not because they are occasional, but because it's become a habit for Slashdot editors not to care about those errors.
Delay posting that article by five minutes - paste the content in a spelling and grammar checking tool, and you can eliminate a good chunk of the mistakes. How hard is that, really?
I wouldn't get cross about this misnomenclature except that there have been a very few real attempts at Communist government, notably in India, and they shouldn't be dirtied by association.
Umm, no. India tried a socialist approach of nationalization, where the state made almost everything, but so did the private industry. Were there instances where the state used unfair tactics to put down some private institutions? Yes, but that was more out of the greed of the politicians than due to any doctrine.
India's original charter of independence declared itself as a, "Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic" - there is a fine line between socialism and communism.
Of course, this being Slashdot, I can imagine millions of souls being torn about arguing for privacy and arguing against Apple. Oooh, sacrilege, nein! NEIN!
Heh, given the lack of women here at Georiga Tech, it is no wonder that the only possible research is in analyzing alchohol and alchohol glasses.
The only other possible research alternative would have been to analyze network cable lengths, but then you get into cliched-joke territory.
Funny anecdote - a graduate student here asked a prof for a good hangout, and he recommended a place right across our research lab. Dude took his girlfriend there, only to realize that it's a strip club. Hilarity ensued. And of course, the same prof usually offered free beer and pizza if you came to his saturday meetings.
Now you know why they do research into alchohol glasses here at Tech.

*giggles like a little girl*
It's spelt weird, not wierd. =)
I might be wrong, but wasn't that particular philosophy later categorized separately as Marxism?
And if I'm not mistaken, Marxism is quite different from Communism, although Marx did use the term in his writings.

Yes, but unless MS-Word also includes ODF, a large chunk of the population loses interoperability with the rest of the choices. :-\
You should remember - it is not enough that you give me a choice, I should be able to bail out of the choice and switch to alternatives, too.

Hello, everybody! See my strawman here?

Actually, to quote Tim Allen, "I'm the best excuse yet against cloning."
*smirk*
Heh, anyone who uses that kind of loud, obnoxious and deafening music on their website would most certainly be dumb enough to be one, alright.
Warning, people - the music on that site is just jarring and annoying.
I don't think CmdrTaco would appreciate you calling him a 5 year old.

Fucking Kangaroos!
WTF, mate?!
Muad'dib! It's a huge Maker!
Intels goal over the next decade is to build chips that hold more than one trillion switches.
Wow, man! How many of these Intel things are there anyway?! One Intel, two Intels and several billion grammatical errors!
*insert Teal'C voice*
"What is an Oprah?"

Wow.
Can I have some of what you are smoking?
Indeed! :)

And of course, there is always UGA/GSU/Emory, but then again, there is always the slight problem of local competition.
Nope - it was Ramesh Jain.
Nah.
Use long glasses if you are trying to get laid and short ones if you're trying to get the other person laid.
Wait. Make sure the chick drinks off the short glass, or if you are a chick, drink off the short glass.
Never mind. Drink up, and it'll all be a lot clearer.

I'm surprised that neither Stargate SG-1 nor Atlantis are on the list.
Personally, Stargate beats BSG anyday.
Well, I couldn't find the original Pixar version of Bambi vs. Godzilla, but I did find something that looked almost the same.
