I forget which one it was, but I read one of Tom Clancy's Net Force series. The one scene - among many - that stick out was when an agent, tasked with finding the contents of an email, hops into a freakin' VR suit and enters a freakin' simulation of the Wild West so he can mosie on down to the local post office (a metaphor for the mail server under investigation) and literally (that is, within the virtual world, with his virtual hands) rifle through their stored "telegrams" (emails).
There's another scene that sticks out for very different reasons. There's a heavily muscled psycho killer in the story, and in one scene he heads to the gym to work out. A couple of other guys come over and compliment him on how ripped he looks.
And that's it. That's the scene.
Oh, yes, I almost forgot. There's a subplot involving one of the agent's kids, who at first seems to have links to the cyber-attackers, but then just completely doesn't, and throughout the book we're treated to his personal journey which culminates in him filling the gap left by his absentee father by playing Frisbee, or something. Weird.
My eyes do that too, especially when I'm tired. You can catch them in the act by closing your eyes for a few seconds and watching the images converge when you open them again.
When I'm really tired, I tilt my head the other way so gravity gives it a bit of help, or give it a push with my finger (against the eyelid, not the eyeball)
One of the tests when I got my last pair of glasses was for this kind of divergence, but these glasses don't seem to correct for it. My first pair may have done, as things appeared noticeably closer, so much so that I panicked a couple of times on my bike when it looked like my pedals should be scraping the floor.
That has things in common with a video filter I wrote for stabilising video, although instead of stabilising it's sort of destabilising, so the view matches the head's new rotational position.
There are far too many trolls who ill deserve the title. If you can be doxxed you're doing it very wrong. You have to create a whole new identity, use proxies located in non-friendly nations or TOR and never ever let your two identities share a single solitary detail.
Anyone smart enough to do that is smart enough to find better ways to employ their time than harrassing random strangers.
Surely there has to be some other way to confirm the machine works than having it tell you it worked.
Yes, by building it such in a way that the only explanation for it going "ping" is that it has detected a gravitational wave.
Not that it will just go "ping," in any case. It's not like the LHC just went "ping" when they were looking for the Higgs. It returned a huge amount of data which had to be processed, at the end of which the conclusion was, to 99.9999% certainty or whatever it was, that the data could only be explained by a Higgs boson.
There are also, apparently, two other detectors at other locations to confirm LIGO "pings."
I simply meant that large glass lenses -- even those clear to visible light -- will serve to hide any facial features behind them to IR.
The IR emitters aren't meant to hide features - how would they do that, anyway? They're meant to dazzle the camera, break up outlines, and possibly - if they strobe - confuse tracking. And they work on visible light cameras; no-one brought up IR cameras until you did, though they'd probably do the same for them as well.
So the emitters aren't trying to do the job of glass.
or those pictures weren't actually involving much in the infrared spectrum.
The fact there were in more-or-less natural colour should have been your first clue;)
Except that, as I recall, they can now do high-accuracy facial recognition based on bone structure alone - something that can't be hidden by dark glasses, hairstyles
It can be quite easily hidden by hairstyles if they cover up said bone structure.
or any amount of face paint.
If they're inferring bone structure from visible light images, then this sounds like just the job for face paint. People have been enhancing/redefining their cheekbones with make up for years.
Just be sure to stand still, because they've made great strides in gait recognition as well.
I recently discovered that a partner web site of a financial institution I do business with makes it trivially easy to view documents that do not belong to me.
Presumably, then, your data is viewable to others. First thing I'd do is demand that my data gets removed until the problem is fixed. Then I'd tell everyone who needs to know that I won't be uploading any more documents to this other website until someone else tells me I must, thereby taking responsibility for me doing so.
Mind you, I'm in the fortunate position of having directors who take me seriously when I tell them things like that.
No, I'm not kidding, just trying to be objective about it.
It's possible to be balanced far more towards blue.
It's also possible to be get quite a bit closer to grey, so I think to claim that the dress "actually IS white/grey" is pushing it a bit. Compare the disputed "blue/white" parts of the image to an actual grey of the same intensity side-by-side and I don't there's any way someone with normal eyesight could fail to see the difference.

The Middle East doesn't want or even understand the idea of absolute freedom.
Who does want absolute freedom?
Within the weird world of weplicated wetware widgets.

Thank you for finally disabling autoplay. Now, if you could just add a freakin' volume control...
Oh, and HTML5 video instead of whatever weird hybrid thing you've got going on that means, with Flashblock enabled, that I get sound but no video.
kthxbye
The Mexican Drug Cartels' Involuntary IT Guy, maybe, just guessing really
FTFY.
Yo dawg, I heard you
Ah, screw it.

I wonder if it has, or why it hasn't, been used in boring old non-stereoscopic games.

Easy.

There's a reason why no culture on Earth uses the idiom "as smart as a troll."
Likewise "as pretty as an airport." -Douglas Adams.
Welp, that's another $205 million down the drain because someone forgot to ask teh internets.

That'll learn yer not to read YouTube descriptions.

So what would be more or less "fair" about altering the percentage based on total revenue?

Walk without rhythm. Don't attract the DHS.
Then we'll look for the house next to the house with no numbers.
Anyway, for the full effect, you should walk around naked
I'm waaay ahead on this one.
Regular old glass blocks the vast majority of infrared. No special IR "emitters" are necessary.
How would you imagine than an IR emitter would block IR, in any case?
The emitters are there to dazzle IR-sensitive cameras.

Make sure no EMP-hardened helicopters have been stolen from Monte Carlo!
including wireless audio streaming from ear to ear
So I can hear what my left ear sounds like with my right ear?
That might get confusing...
The abstract of the research only goes as far as to say there are "links" and that "further studies" are warranted.
Even the Grauniad only goes so far as to say that it "suggests" that saunas help you live longer, as does the Slashdot summary.
Yes, that has got to be cheaper than just a High Speed Railway, hasn't it?
Is CHSR a government project?
In which, yes, it probably will be a lot cheaper.
Yeah, that's right, satire!
Are you kidding?
No, I'm not kidding, just trying to be objective about it.

But also, gold is not a color.
I don't remember saying it was...
