And what I think is most important -- that Google maintains their position regarding these useless sites even if they sometimes get a bit negative publicity about it. I'd be happy to see the Google team continuing to be stubborn regarding these matters! These kind of news always put a smile on my face.:-)
Thanks! That really deserves a +Informative rating.:-) A form I haven't used yet, but could have had use for earlier. Great to see them supplying us with such an easy, yet precise, method to catch those spam pages.
Sounds strange since as long as a remote Kazaa client can detect incoming packets as coming from another Kzaa client and being valid, a router with a filter for Kazaa should be able to detect incoming packets as being from Kazaa.
Yeah, in the future people won't only talk to an ugly woman that happens to be able to speak sensually, but a geek with a perverted mind who types things on a computer.
Please, this isn't the proper thread to mention when you've got an erection.:-) But I'm glad it has finally happened for you too. I think the next step will be to go out to meet a girl.;-)
Education helps protect people against your average dummy-attack (email trojan, open share, etc). Doesn't do much against the latest RPC vulnerability etc, or perhaps a DDOS.
Well, the latest RPC outbreak could be prevent if Windows users was aware of the risks of not keeping their operating systems up to date by applying critical updates from Windows Update, preferrably through the service you can activate that auto-downloads critical fixes and alerts you when some patch should be applied.
I agree about DDOS attacks though. These are nasty. However, as I understood it, that was the other part of this new crime agency's purpose.
How would we know what they think is a useful mouse gesture? I'd hate to accidentally move the mouse up, and then down in a "gesture" to suddenly have the product pages of some company open.
If we don't decide what gestures are available and can apply them to all sites like a standard, then what's the point with them?
That's about as stupid to me as letting web developers decide which kind of keyboard shortcuts to use to browse web pages.
No, you can't sue a minor, but then again the minor doesn't own the computer, does she? They're suing her parents, the actual owners of the computer, and as far as the law is concerned, the infringers.
Ah -- I see. I was also confused by this.
Well, chalk up another incorrect/. news post then.:-P
For me it's a simple choice. I'll stick with Google News since they didn't imitate anyone when creating their fully automated news service, and also because MSN News don't offer me anything I can't get via Google News. I'm also feeling more comfortable with Google getting revenues from their services since they've shown they aren't using those to combat other markets and haven't their search engine strongly coupled with their own products. Knowing how Microsoft work, they'll probably be biased in this new news service. The day I see a large anti-MS article on MSN News, I'll eat my hat.:-)
Outdated because it does not allow you to move on the Z Axis? ToEE, Dungeon Siege, KotOR are of course outdated immediately. Most RPGs tend to have no Z axis moving in case you didn't notice. Go back to your shooters
So just because there are other games with flawed engines makes NWN be ok? Why isn't a Z axis implemented when it's so necessary for dozens of spells and monsters to function properly?
I thought BioWare would, when they're designing a new engine from scratch, would take the opportunity to make something that is that limited. I thought their amibitions with NWN were higher, but I was mistaken.
If KOTOR is the same, that shows they haven't listened to many users complaints either. There have been lots made at their forums regarding these problems.
Dungeon Siege at least used a higher detail level to compensate. NWN doesn't even try to.
Modifications look similar to each other? Sure, if you are an unimaginative builder yes,
I wasn't commenting on my modules. I was commenting about many "high rated" modules I have downloaded. I don't even bother with lower rated ones, since I can imagine how well *they* play.
I'm aware of at least CoD, but when I quit NWN after a year playing or so, it still wasn't even available as a downloadable alpha. Tried your link but the site seems to be (temporarily?) down. But since you suggest it, I guess they put up something downloadable in the end.
Missing rules? Ever heard of the idea that a game has to be fun in the first place?
Yes, I wouldn't complain if NWN was still fun.
Maybe you should go back to the counterstrike and stop talking about games you never played.
I bought NWN. I played it for around a YEAR. My comments are those from a disappointed former NWN player who have played CRPG's since Eye of the Beholder. I was a hardcore gamer and custom content developer until I finally gave up, failing to get or creating anything that reproduced any sort of immersive game play.
I have never played CS.
Maybe you should stop making assumptions about things you don't have a clue about?
I think I best summarize what I think about this game with a pro/con list:
Pros:
- Highly flexible modding tools that are fairly easy to use. - Available in a Windows, Mac and Linux version. - Good availability of custom campaigns of varying quality. - Many implemented D&D rules.
Cons:
- Very outdated game engine already when NWN went gold. Almost back to Doom II with a sort of pseudo-3D. Sure, the 3D is "real", but the feature set doesn't make it look like that. No swimming, no flying, no jumping (!), no crouching. What happened with the Z axis!? You can barely design campaigns that have slopes, much less rolling hills. Wha..!? Also, forget about any spells or monsters that involve levitation of any kind. Like Dragons. Yes, there are those in NWN, but they can't fly, just take a walk! Laughable for a modern game. Why didn't they just leave them out instead of banishing them to a life on ground? - Poor and shallow built-in campaigns both in NWN and SoU using cliche stories. - Modifications usually look similar to each other due to rather large tiles. Some custom tilesets are nice, and others amateurish. All campaigns using custom tiles grow considerably in download size. - Almost completely lacking the proper RPG "feeling" in worlds composed of undetailed polygons and monsters with poor AI. - Still many missing D&D rules or improperly implemented spells, etc. Mordenkainen's Sword is a monster (not a sword) for example.:-/
The problem with TopCoder is that it emphasizes hacky brute force solutions over elegant / high performance ones.
How did you come to this conclusion?
At least the FAQ didn't make you do it.
Do you really think this is a good way to measure the relative merit of programmers?
The ability to quickly code solutions to a set of somewhat simple algorithmic problems does not completely define a "top" programmer. However, our attempt to make TopCoder tournaments as objective as possible has initially lead us in this direction. We continuously discuss ways in which we might introduce code elegance, style, reusability, and other less objectively ratable elements into our tournaments. We'd love to hear any suggestions on how this might be accomplished.
Free education. The government pays even the university studies. All you have to pay for is food & living.
Pays the studies? To me the major costs lie in student apartments and study material (which aren't free), basically forcing you to make loans from CSN and essentially preventing people with children to study without taking some huge loans.:-/
Thanks! I'm getting more and more happy I posted that original Slashdot comment. Seems like I've missed out some services where musicians make great music because they like to, and share it with others. I appreciate your, err, advertisements.:-)
Yes, that's a good idea, only it could be hard for the artist to get the music spread well for anyone to be able to download it if few likes it. In the end, only the popular stuff might be available. This is especially true if the p2p network would be similar in functionality to BitTorrent since I doubt many music enthusiasts would keep all their download windows open to share with others.
How about a p2p network? You could post a zip file containing the.mp3, and info about yourself, maybe a web address, which would give info about the tunes you have available (on Kazaa or whatever)?
But how would one organize that information to be easily browsable by the user? I.e. so it wouldn't just go into the mess of porn with changed file names, etc..
And what I think is most important -- that Google maintains their position regarding these useless sites even if they sometimes get a bit negative publicity about it. Pfft... You suck at Elite!
Ya know, you have to feed the fish in order for them to survive.
Hmm... Is that behavior caused by a dominant or recessive gene?
*looks down*

Doh! North and South are at the poles!

Even funnier is a search for 'Linux' on MSN

Haha, link #3 is the best

Wow, that sounds like the proper site for the latest info on that OS, and a good source of non-biased information.

It's only cold at the winter though, unless you call 20-30 C cold. :-) And that's not something special with Sweden I think ;-)

Since this is a science article, maybe replace it with this?
But of course, taste differs, so I'm sure there are people finding this one interesting as well.

I wish them good luck in their relaunch of the new version of this artist site.
