... supposedly equaling China. These have been a concern to the US navy since the Soviets equipped their fleet with missile boats, haven't they? I mean I've played my deal of Harpoon, and these things are pesky no matter what the opponent is named, and also they are quite affordable to many smaller countries. Also, and somewhat strangely, I can't find a word about the defense against "carrier-killing missiles" or something comparable in the Diplomat article, but a lot about penetrating air defenses, which hopefully (and probably) isn't too high in the US navy's planning priorities with regards to the PRC.
to ordinary people all the time, all around the world. it has to happen to a a rich guy in a poor country for the sheepish majority to see what an unchecked police force can do to people.
"depression" is an umbrella term for a variety of mental health problems with even more diverse causes. Certain forms of depression can certainly be alleviated by giving the patient some task to accomplish. However, the generalization in the header (what is the "traditional treatment" for depression, btw?) makes the probably well-meant research sound like snake oil.
to commit immediate body cavity searches on all passengers, on remote GSM commands. The GSM access codes will be issued primarily to law enforcement agencies, but may also be outsourced to corporations who can show that they have a legitimate interest to penetrate peoples orifices in search for e.g. heinous violations of intellectual property. The law also provides an opt-out possibilty, providing takers with a handgun and a single bullet within 24 hours after requesting so.
... so much for the rationality of transnational corporation's agendas. Sometimes I think if only the CEOs of the world's top 10 corporations did an unbiased, impartial reality check on what they are doing vs. what would benefit mankind as a whole, the world economy as we know it would grind to a halt immediately.

According to CNN, witnesses described (1) a nose-up attitude prior to impact, (2) the plane "falling from the sky" in a steep path (3) fire on the plane prior to impact (4) loud engine noise.
However, (3) seems rather unlikely:
In a photograph showing the plane at approximately 50 ft above ground, there is no fire or smoke visible, so the flame the witness saw may well have been the launching of the ejection seats.
But the report of engine noise is somewhat of a puzzle.
So we have the plane in an unsustainable attitude, stalling, and falling. If there was a loss of engine power, this may have only been the last desperate attempt of the pilot to pull the plane over the residential area, and not the initial cause of the accident.
That there was time to dump fuel - if this was intentional - may corroborate the engine failure theory, because I would think that a crew would only take such a measure after it became clear that an engine restart was not feasible. It looks pretty much like a last resort, and there are probably other things they would try first.
Unfortunately, the military is not so cooperative in releasing their accident investigation reports as are civilian authorities, so we may never know for sure what happened there.

"I like x", and as such should be considered speech, no matter how narrow the possibility of expression through this means of a like-button is.
I was referring to the slashdot title which does a bad job at conveying what the journal article is about. I can see nothing asinine about that.
