dude, follow the money. FB and Goog are public (or near-so) companies whose life blood is extracting $billions worth of data from you. Apple has no incentive to do so, so why are they going to spend $$ to track me? As you say, perhaps that will change in the future, but I'm comfortable that they're not doing it now.
also, consider this. You posit that by some secret conspiracy Apple is tracking all my shizznit. Maybe. Also, maybe the CIA really owns twitter. But FB and Goog openly admit that they want ur base.
i would add an additional item, and move it to the top of the list - companies that aim to track everything you do and aggregate that in one place. you could also add the gov't agencies that collude with them to track citizens. This would put FB and Goog tied at the top of the list. Not sure who is first, but they're both trying.
parent is largely correct. on mac, safari > firefox >> chrome. On windows, ie9 = firefox > safari > chrome > ie8 > ie7.
I think safari works well on windows, but I don't like the nonstandard interface.
You have to understand that Google is growing to be one of the largest public menaces of today. $25k fine for blocking an investigation - no prob. Just make the engineer take the 5th and "lose" internal emails. Much cheaper than dealing with the consequences of your actions.
The one thing preventing a major threat from Goog is that they can't execute on anything anymore. All of their recent initiatives have been failures (buzz, chrome, goog+), with the possible exception of android, which is still on the fence.
this leaves Facebook as the greatest threat to public freedom right now.
netflix minimum for streaming = 1.5mbps. = 6 seconds per megabyte. = 5 hours for 3 gig movie. i don't know what your get-togethers are like, but this would be a deal breaker.
For friends coming over, I would just rent it on iTunes. Considering the investment of time my friends and i getting together (you understand if you have kids) it's totally worth it to spend $4 to choose my fave movie.
while you're thinking up nonsense plans for the government to coddle us like babies until china takes over, real americans are innovating with electric vehicles to really change this country. maybe you should get out of your cave.
Apple's latest security update (from Thurs) turned off automatic execution of java applets. User can still turn it back on if he wants, but for nearly everybody this is going to be moot.
sorry, man. try reading your own sources. Comprehension much?
the freaking headline - "U.S. Was Net Oil-Product Exporter for First Time Since 1949". This means refined products like gasoline and diesel.
We're a major importer of crude oil, but last year a small exporter of gasoline and diesel. This is primarily because the oil refineries can't afford to run idle, and whatever they can't sell locally, they export.
Hope that clears it up. Your post is tangential to all the other posts in this thread.
Maybe you're trolling, I cant tell. I b and ms go out of business due to unfair competition, how is that progress? And how doe people win whe nother communities are gutted? Yu're essentially using the Walmart argument, which has been refuted many times befor on shalshdot and elwhere.
holy shizznit another slashdot update on the raspberry pi, which is incrementally moving forward from the last update! next update - "raspberry pi recieves email status update." holy cow people, this is like xeno's arrow - with each update, we are making less and less progress towards the goal.

I meant chrome OS. remember, the one that was going to revolutionize computing? it's pretty much radio silence now.

I was referring to chrome OS, my friend. Ever heard of it? I prove my point.
mod parent UP!. +10 insightful.
also, wouldn't they have noticed their mistake when their street view payload was an OM larger than they expected?

yes this is the best answer for sure. "do you have X?" "no, but i will download it! let's watch it in 7 hours." awesome!"

not only would it be foolish to hope for it, but it would be foolish to do so! It would be like buying an iphone and trying to load droid on it.
I'm going to go out and get one this weekend. It's better than the crapola droid phones available for $0. LG Optimus, anyone?
holy shizznit the iPhone is insecure due to all the holes and viruses we don't know about but presume to exist! sky is falling!
Now that it's being increasingly targeted by botnet herders,
newsbreak- mac botnets increase from 0 to 1. increasingly targeted! infinity percent increase!
truth will out, and then you'll see what team you chose to join (spoiler alert: team racism).
Yes, that's accurate - support is for people who need help. In other news, water is wet.
In socialist democratic parliamentary Australia, tort law takes down YOU!

vat = sales tax? what a world, with so many terms! why not just call it sales tax?
i'm pretty sure that amazon should go out of business, based on your logic.
