I'd never say "Doctors don't know anything," but every time I go to the doctor for just about anything they take a bunch of my blood, or take an xray, and then throw up their hands and give me a useless anti-inflamatory.
Doctors don't know everything either, guys.
I'm not going to be a person who won't vaccinate my kids (if I ever have any), but it's not wrong to question your doctor either.
It's not YOUR problem to try to stop them from making personal calls instead of work-oriented ones.
This is pretty much how I approach it also. I don't really care if people are surfing at work, but we do crack down on streaming because we still have to pay for our bandwidth.
So long as your "personal activities" aren't endangering or slowing our network, I really don't care.
But what are you supposed to say during a traffic stop? Nothing at all? Just hand over your ID and not answer any question? Or is the only thing you say "Am I being detained?"
Thanks for that link. That seemed like a fair treatment of the issue. I know it's fiction, but since reading Chricton's Airframe, I'm skeptical of how the press treats airline incedents.
Alaska and Hawaii say hi. I really wish we could just choose not to fly, or take advantage of these oh so cheap flights. If I want to travel... anywhere, I have to pay at least $500 more than people in the contiguous US. No trains that leave the state. Driving would take 3-4 extra days on each side, while dealing with Customs.
What cheap flights? We're paying $1100 each to fly from Anchorage to Las Vegas next week. Yeah, pretty cheap.
Also, it infected a lot of routers... Most people have no idea they should change the default password on their router (as opposed to their wifi network), or that such a password even exists!
So a lot of people will *think* their iPhones, iPads, etc are infected when it's the router.
You're talking a lot of sense here. As a user support person, my life gets a million times easier when I remember to see my users not as stupid, but as inexperienced. I remember that I can't do their jobs, so I shouldn't expect them to do mine and have the same level of comfort and education with IT systems.
In nearly every case where the user is interested in the "why" something isn't working, they can understand it.
We've cut the cord with a jailbroken AppleTV with XBMC on it.
We use the HomeSharing in iTunes on the various computers for our party music, Hulu (free) plugin for XBMC, and pay for streaming-only Netflix.
Anything that isn't on Netflix or Hulu (free) we will borrow or torrent. We have one computer in the house that is basically just a shell for a few giant hard drives, and XBMC on the AppleTV to stream from it.
This has been working out pretty well, but we will be adding an HD antenna to the TV when football time rolls around again.
I think of Kickstarter as a donation engine. I don't give to projects with an expectation of ever receiving anything. That's why I'm usually down in the cheap seats. Having said that, I haven't backed any games, movies or anything like that.
I tend to back art projects and inventions, and I don't mind if I never see any rewards from them.
Thinking of a Kickstarter project as an investment is the wrong way to do it.

No it's not. If you BYOD, you'll likely get nothing at all in terms of hardware/service costs.

Yet another good reason to pack light! If we all did it, costs would go down for the airlines and maybe fares would drop as well!

Companies with fewer than 50 employees are not subject to the FMLA. They can do what they please.
It was announced Friday morning during Gabe & Tycho's Q&A. Not Saturday. Friday.

Where can I "vote" on all these clothes? I want to "like" all the obviously icky things to trick people into dressing like clowns!
http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/04/reddit-scared-straight-for-encouraging-suicide.html Maybe a little research next time? No Reddit official ever said they were being subpoenaed.
And now it's been confirmed as a hoax. http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/04/reddit-scared-straight-for-encouraging-suicide.html
