I would but I'm taken so I'd be (dragging) my non-geek boyfriend there. There aren't many of us geek girls out here though. I don't know if people would consider me hot but I'm attractive and a big geek. All I watch on TV is Cartoon Network, Sci-Fi, and MTV when Daria is on. As long as the bar also offers some good stout beer (mmm, Guinness) I'd be there.
I know, I was in the middle of reading posts on rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc as the news server available at work doesn't keep things that far back and I tried to go to the next post and got the message about google acquiring deja!!!! They could at least keep the threaded newsgroup posting up so that you aren't completely thrown out in the middle of looking at news. I don't like the new look right now...hopefully they go back to the way deja looked after they are done transitioning everything.
It's especially news if you work in tech support for an ISP and have all these people saying "My internet is broken" just because they can't get to MSN. Plus I happen to use the info under their support pages for those wacky bugs in MS products. We found one the other day here at work where, since upgrading our server to Win 2K, some people were unable to log onto the intranet or get their email. This was because of having an older version of the secur32.dll file. Microsoft.com does help sometimes and yes it is newsworthy that they are down, especiallt because it's been for so long.
I thought that the Constitution didn't cover "fighting words" here in the US. I seem to remember that in school we learned there ARE certain things that the 1st Amendment doesn't cover. Does anyone know more about this?
I agree. As far as the weirding way, the sound weapons were not in the book. I believe, but I haven't read the book in a bit, refers to the Command Voice and the superior mental powers the Bene Gesserit and Paul posess.
Another thing I missed about the movie was the voiceovers. The book contained a lot of thoughts and bits of history/writings that are missed without the voiceovers. While Lynches wasn't totally accurate I still feel his was better. It had a better look, mood, and script/acting. Closer to what I get from the book than this was.
Well, I wasn't very happy with the series. I don't think it was all bad but my number one complaint was the gratuitous sex/semi-nudity. I don't recall that stuff being in the book. The scene between Laeto and Jessica, ok that was fine. But, Irulan and Feyd?!? And I don't recall Paul and Chani sneaking off to the desert to "get it on." I know they did eventually in the book since they had kids but it just seemed like the sex and nudity was there simply for the "Hey, look, it's a naked chick" factor. Some people on here are saying that they left certain things out of the movie because of time and they weren't needed. Well, why didn't they leave some of the sex out so they could have put in some of the plot points that were left out? I'm not a prude or anything, I just feel that these things weren't necessary. David Lynch didn't even have it in there and well, we all now he's definitely not opposed to lots of sex in his movies

Thanks, I figured that out when I got home and looked in that list of the terms used in the book at the end of it. Still, they should have named him Usul first. And what was up with that sudden appearance of the term Kwisatz Hadarach last night? Why bring it up in the middle of the movie. Did they cut something at the beginning about it?
One point I felt was missing was where were the marks on the foreheads of the Mentats? I think there should have been a bit more about the betrayal and the suspicion against Jessica too.
The last item I'm not sure I really like the actors portraying the characters that well. They don't always seem to capture the personality and I think Leto doesn't quite look regal enough.
I think there are some good points (so far) to each movie but the Lynch film still seems to have gotten the feel of the book a bit better.
Yeah, I was at Best Buy one day and asked if they had 256 MB SDRAM and the guy said "They don't make that."...Ok, just because you don't sell it doesn't mean they don't make it. I told him I wanted to upgrade my RAM and told him what I have now (a 32 and a 64...my machine was hacked together with some new parts and some spare parts at my old job a computer store) and he said "Why don't you just put another 64 in?" Because I don't want to use all my slots and not even have that much memory... Their employees aren't very intelligent at all. I asked them one day about the features ona particular VCR and the salesperson then read the side of the box to me. Uh, thanks...I think I'll go somewhere else where people actually know more about what they are selling

I thought that was Mr. Horrible?

Yeah, it was a sign of Imperial conditioning. I haven't read Dune in awhile and posted that at work without the book around.
I thought Usul was the name of the little mouse that does the "pop-pop" thing? And didn't, in his dream, they call him Usul and Muad'ib?
