Hardly surprising. Genre films are very popular among geeks on the tech cutting edge. But don't worry. If the "Funding a movie via Kickstarter" thing catches on, you can expect the shitty romantic comedies and godawful cop movies to follow soon enough.
Just a play from the classic Apple playbook: Any feature that our competitor has that we don't is something customers don't want or need--until we do have it, and then it's awesome.
Actually, in all fairness, it's a play from pretty much everyone's playbook. I mean what do you expect him to say, "Well, the truth is we're jealous"?
Apparently a bunch of feminists in San Fransisco (but of course) are concerned that any *mention* of rape ("rape trigger") in a speech or presentation will send any former rape victims in the audience into flashbacks and convulsions, thus re-victimizing them.
Of course, the term "rape trigger" is *itself* a rape trigger. Which leads to an interesting loop.
So, AFAICT from the summary and blogs, this was some hippie slap-fight between a bunch of feminists over "rape triggers" (a term so silly that it could only have meaning in San Fran, Austin, and Portland) in some presentation?
And isn't the term "rape trigger" ITSELF a rape trigger?
Make no mistake about it, the music industry still DREAMS of going back to the days when they could charge you $15 for a CD that you had to buy just to listen to one lousy song. Turn your back on them, and they WILL try to go back to a similar model.
Keep in mind that you're talking about a kid here, one who in the typical American fashion had been raised on idealism and "good government bullshit" (to quote Goodfellas). It's quite likely he had no idea going in just how hard the government can push back when citizens threaten corporate interests.
It's real easy to envision yourself a hero when you embark on a fight against the man. But when confronted with the very harsh reality that you are engaging in the fight largely alone and against all odds, it can be overwhelming.
Zuckerberg says, 'Our policy at Facebook is literally to hire as many talented engineers as we can find. There just aren't enough people who are trained and have these skills today.' Former U.S. President Bill Clinton adds, 'At a time when people are saying, "I want a good job – I got out of college and I couldn't find one," every single year in America, there is a standing demand for 120,000 people who are training in computer science.'
Yeah, and those "jobs" wouldn't just be a fiction to get more H-1B Visas, now would they? Of course not, they're all legit, of course.
Machines don't spontaneously become sentient in the real world, it's true. But AI *does* fuck up all the time in the real world. And that's why turning over a powerful weapons system exclusively to autonomous AI, sentient or not, is a spectacularly stupid idea.
That's true. But trying to hack *all* of them (or even a significant number of them) at once, without someone blabbing, is very difficult. If you've discovered a good enough exploit, it would be trivial to do that with computer systems.

Well, the lowercase "i" suggests it's a jab at Apple.
Silent Running was actually directed by the guy who did the FX for 2001, so there is a lot of cross-pollination there.
That's more than one word.
Yes, because the American government is famous for thinking ahead carefully before it acts.
I don't say this often, but no, I'm absolutely sure I'm not the one who sounds like an idiot on this one.

Ah yes, my favorite was the reporter last week who seriously asked Bill Nye if global warming had anything to do with the asteroid near-miss.

Just activate the OIN Signal, click your heels together three times, and OIN will be there for you, citizen!!
Here's a video to show you how tech companies in the U.S. today "recruit" American programmers.
Lol, you think my local cops have a "financial crimes desk"??? hahahahahahahahah Shit, I doubt my state police even have that.

Next time, he should check.
I'll give you $50!

humans can be hacked also.

once we can prove that they can not be taken over by an enemy
Any system can be hacked. Having humans directly in the loop is the basic Wargames lesson.
they could operate autonomously when conditions warrant
And that is exactly what these drones should NEVER be allowed to do. And that's the basic Terminator lesson.
Nah, no one could ever do that.
Turn broadsides!
You will bow down before Apple, users, no matter that it takes an eternity! YOU WILL BOW DOWN BEFORE APPLE!!!
But the Cisco salesman told them they absolutely needed a 3945, for future expansion and such!
