I bought a zip drive (actually my mommy bought it for my B-day) right after it came out and I suffered from this clicking.
A lot of people posted here that they never had these problems, but I'm sure they will take the rebates. I'm kinda (really; really) pissed that the dumb ass lawyers settled for rebates.
Oh wow, I can get more disks for this drive that sits on my desktop with no use. I've lost data because of this problem - the only way to rescue a disk which has been destroyed because of this problem is to format it!
Also in crappy windows (btw i haven't noticed one disk that's clicked in linux - but that's neither here nor there) while the clicking is going on it freezes the computer.
I love a 100 mb disk (which is useless now a days when you have a 20mb drive and a cdr[w] ) but this problem has rendered my drive worthless.
I guess I have to buy a new drive which I can't afford.
PLEASE REPLY IF YOU'VE HAD THESE PROBLEMS. Will the USB zip drive work with linux?
One thing that people are forgeting about MS and the whole big picture of licensing - MS swallowed a bunch of developer over the past few years.
They really don't need all this money from game companies to turn a profit. They are a game company.
The thing is though MS is good at protecting their software and what not. You will probaly have to pay the WebTV section of their company just to go online, and once you do it'll check any software I bet.
But see, one thing the Nazi's did other than kill millions of people is get their message out.
See that's one thing I forgot. Have you heard the term propaganda machine? It was actually the term used by Nazi's (propaganda in other languages doesn't have the stigma it has in english) for a free or 'peoples' radio which was placed in German homes so that they could broadcast their own news. Look it up.
The Nazi's are just one group which should not have a voice. What they stand/stood for is so bass-akwards that it doesn't make any sense.
-They are Socialists by name only (Where the 'Z' comes from). When in fact they are a party of facism. Anyone who took a government class in high school knows that Facism is the radical right where socialism is left, but still right of communism. NOTE: The reason they were called the socialist party was because of Adolf Hitlers rise to power out of union leadership. Although they are not socialist in nature because socialism is supposed to have equal rights for all.
-"it's easy to silence the ideas that are unpopular". This is the view I'm fighting here. It isn't an 'unpopular' idea - it's an idea based on lies and hate.
-The whole Nazi 'trick' was getting power by scapegoating those 'tricky', 'freemasonry' jews. Germany was having trouble without the Jews but they were a minority who did better than the lower class majority. Much like the KKK in America, they were poor white men who were doing bad and noticed that there were all these blacks doing better. Though the KKK's 'trick' has been threats, the Nazi's lied so much that they went beyond threats.
-See Above, their ideology is one of constant war. But yet they have the right to voice their opinions and let this opinion spread? Who wins? I though free speech is supposed to support and protect anyone and everyone?
-Any web site that says I; lets say, walk slumped over because I'm jewish is libelous in my book. Nazi's believed that you can tell a jew from the dimensions of his face. These things aren't only lies, but they are poised to hurt a great number of people's feelings. Not to mentions spread these false beliefs.
-In the name of ethics you basically defend the devil, then whats the point? "Facist should have a voice too!"
Your New Motto: CENSORSHIP STARTED WITH CHILD PORN - WHERE WILL IT END?
Some things are morally wrong, and if you don't think being a Nazi is one of them, then God help you.
If the poor German people don't want to go through another holocaust then lets just let it be that way. They are a sovergn nation, they can censor what they want!
I want to know why so many/. readers are anti-semetic.
When I put up my first web site I had blue ribbons all over it, animated ones and all that.
But you are talking free speech (which believe it or not isn't a world wide thing) and a Nazi's right to it.
Free speech is an idea, just like some idiot thinks it's a good idea to wipe out a race of people. Free speech didn't become a big thing until the US Constitution. And free speech in the US isn't/wasn't so people could talk about ways to kill people and what not. It was set up so you could say in public this is the way I am - and you didn't have to worry about someone killing you.
And here in the US the Supreme Court ruled that your speech may not impose a risk of injury on another person or you may not use speech to insite violence.
How does someone get off saying that banning Neo-Nazi sites (and other HATE groups) is like living in Nazi Germany? How? Are DoS attacks going to kill anyone?
If someone wanted to ban sites that talked about a new form of government and "hey lets institute it" - then that would be wrong. But if a country wants to keep hate from spreading then it's fine with me. I wouldn't expect a site promoting the sacrifice of Christian babies to stay up for long, so why would I expect a Nazi site to stay up?
-One thing that people don't know about Nazi's is that the party believed in a constant state of war until the supreme people would only be left. Killing not just Jews, but everyone. Even those people who are going to flame me, yes you with the blonde hair and blue eyes.
See people need to know what they are saying when they say any form of censorship is wrong. Censorship exists all around us all the time. Yes; here in the US you have a right to free speech, but you also have the right to be who you want to be and sites which would make you afraid to be who you are infringe on your rights as well.
I don't blame Germans one bit. Nazi's hopefully are in the past lets leave them there.
People think that it's a God given right to be able to express your views. It's a shame you would defend that while knowingly backing a person who would take even one life in the name of hate.
"Linux is better than Windows" is free speech
"Lets all go to CowboyNeal's house with torches" is a crime in the USA
The funny thing internet filtering software (from about '95 I believe) filtered out Jewish web sites and DNC web sites because the content wasn't straight and Christian.
I believe it was NetNanny but I can't be 100% sure. It was a service which you'd subscribe to and some one looked at there list of blocked sites and said wait!
George Duba is planning a war on porn, so stop defending Nazi's and worry if your favorite sites like maybe playboy.com (which IN MY VIEW is a tastful site). Get ready for.xxx or other such domains.
I don't know which part is funnier, that Linus became Linux or that free software will be the fall of capitalism.
I'm not a communist, but I believe good things should be free (state funded):School, Healthcare, Software. Socialism 2.0!
Hey really - what about that sweet Yahoo (YHOO) stock which runs BSD right? Or the rest of those dot com's (I hate that term) who are making a fortune while running 'free' software.
When I bought Linux-Mandrake in the store people all over were getting paid.
LINUX, THE PEOPLE'S OS.
The OS is just a tool, Microsoft made it a Rip-Off.
Here in Cincinnati (ohio) we have buses (Metro) that are run one soybeans and yes they smelled like french fries. I think there was some other smells as well.
But one thing I never thought about is, I have seen, or smelled these buses in a long time. I bet it was a promotional thing, and they are packed away somewhere.
This is the skinny too: to use some themes you need to turn on that weird setting that says other programs can read your database. That alone sounds fishy to me!
Also it always checks the site for an update and try to load windowsmedia.com in the "Media Guide" ('ms portal to yet another thing) which we all know will and would track you down. It's a website with sponsered content - they want to know what you watch.
Also for you cookie/history whores who love to delete this stuff. Your library (all those mp3s and DivX movies you have on your hard drive) well it's stored in a file like this "wmplibrary_v_0_12.db" . I like to delete it every now and then because how can I be sure windows wouldn't like to see that. Yes most often every file you play gets stored there until you delete it. Well not the file, but the filename, so "simpsons_S4_E11_hax.mpg" could maybe get you in some trouble.
Also note that windows media player is like msn explorer (girlfriends and linux don't mix) it'll trick you into turning certain things on just to 'get it to work'.
I had to post something else on this topic. sorry.
One thing I noticed is when Doom (one) came out the Mac as a normal lamer system kinda dropped. (look at the numbers i think i'm on to something)
The first time i was in a actual computer store some guy was like "will this run on my mac?" after playing a demo at the store.
I think that guy bought a pc later that day, he was very excited about that FPS. I also heard other people say things like: "Will this run Doom?" and when the guy said not yet... they walked over to the pc's.
Really I'm suprised half these games actually run on Windows. Speaking of which - i can't get Quake to run for anything.
Well here is my advice... wait until it's been tested and added offically and tested some more.
Don't get a distro from the NSA (like they are going to release one, but a distro from the US Govt sounds cool. Shady. But Cool) - wait until your favorite flavor adds this feature.
If you know what the source says then read it. If not WAIT UNTIL IT'S BEEN TESTED. And last but not least read Slashdot every five minutes to see if anyone has found something secretive.
I thought the Gov't didn't want us to have security.
In he article they point out that the backbone may not be enough to support this kinda speed.
BUT! I have a question! If people are downloading games (120MB) in 20-30 seconds, isn't that going to help the backbone a bit?
See when people are downloading the same game from a dial-up connection doesn't that actually kinda, in a way, f' up the backbone for the rest of us?
I know it's way more complicated than that - because of different routes and the such.
What I'd like to see now is a distributed computing program that would use this fast connection and help move data around on the net. I would use my unused cycles and unused time to help my neighbors get games and all that.
Like- uh - I'm on this Road Runner and I wouldn't mind hosting like a distro while I sleep. On this cable system it would be "hella" fast cause we are on the same LAN.
Two people came to my house taking the census - the first was - well - eh - screwed up. It's nice to know that the Census ppl hire ex-crackheads.
But the funny thing was she took the long form and then quit her job sometime later. So some other lady came, who seemed to have it all together, but she took the short form.
And the whole time I'm thinking - some crackhead knows that I'm a Swiss Jew without a high school diploma or a job. What did she do with the info - sell it on the net?
Is this who is behind those 'find out anything about anyone' e-mails?
Two funny things I have to say.
Isn't LinkExchange OWNED by Microsoft?
And didn't the gov't of my U.S. sue Microsoft.
If Microsoft knew so much about me then I'd like to see them put it into their products. Everyone at the top must fall, it's a law of the pecking order. So these big companies which I really don't like aren't a threat forever.
When I ordered a pizza today I gave the lady my CC number - I don't think she's going to look up my history. And so what if she did and sold it? I'd just get credit card offers in the mail.
Verisign... beware of verisign - they encrypt your info so they can steal it faster. Ahhh!
Good thing I'm the owner of this e-mail or maybe I'd be braking the law.

I read your article on Copyright.net and never did I see any mention of the

I would certainly believe that if this service scans my hard drive it is no
better than a Trojan or a virus. And isn't virus and Trojan trading a
illegal activity if it causes a monetary loss? What if a user at my business
gets my whole office kicked off line - I would hold copyright.net responsible.
This service is doing a search and seizure at computer speeds. The FBI would
even need a warrant to search my computer. The DEA (an unholy relic from WWII
see High Times Issue March 2001) with it's unelected and shady practices
wouldn't even try something like this without a warrant. Fidel Castro
wouldn't even do something like this.
My ISP (Road Runner/Time-Warner) has its own 'Copyright' team and if they

do not own the rights to one of these files.
And in no way do I intend to say copying and trading of mp3's are right (or
wrong) but simply this isn't the way to 'protect' this billion dollar

Copyrights are really just figments of people imaginations - they are made up

Does making an MP3 make me the owner of 'that' work?
I worked for a company (landscaping) who didn't tell you that they wanted you to sign one of these after you quit. Of course they told you after you quit.
Actually my mother worked there also. She had 20 years experience in the field and they were worried that she would discuss the 'business' with other companies or use their info to start her own.
And they were very persistant that she signed this contract. The sad thing is that the customers of the company would've rather just had her work for them, and not the landscaping company. They sucked!
