    I had a stupid idea...write a worm enters a backdoor set by the code red and nimda worms that fixes all the code red and nimda boxes and then, after a few months, removes itself from the box it's on (to stop looking for infected boxes). Unfortunately I don't think I could write something like that anytime soon..too busy at work. Call it "Early Bird" since the Early bird gets the worm. he he.

    I am truly disappointed in Gateway dropping AMD chips. It seems they enjoy bending over and taking it in the ass for Intel and help promote Intel's practices overseas, like forcing motherboard makers not to make boards that support AMD chips.

    I know an engineer that wrote a timeclock app for his company, on his own time. They used it and at first they did not want to pay for it, but finally they did when he said he'd remove it if they did not.
    Advice...
    If you are an engineer and write software, the simplest thing to do write some expiration code if they haven't registered it. That helps alot if they decide not to pay for it later on. Plus make sure you can resell it.

    Hey silly, there probably is some answering machine software that runs on the linux box. that you have to find yourself. And, if it has a log file, all you would have to do is setup the server to run qpage (which works with you pager service, which you have TO PAY FOR) and page you the newest logfiles via a cron job run every 10 min or so...blah blah blah etc.

    Yeah, first you have to actually GET IN with one of those services. etc/hosts.allow and run MON with another non-internet box prevents shit like that. Plus the new statefull firewall. And I'm not even the sysadmin.

    IF this is true, I hope you had half a brain and hired a lawyer. Along with keeping track of what happened to you. I've heard plenty of stories about crap like this. Sometimes I change my middle initial just to see which people sell my off to mailing lists.

    ASP is fine if you want to live in an MS world the rest of your life and pay up the nose. The better route in my opinion is to go with Apache's Tomcat project with JSP. Hell, php is even better.
    Perl is a good language for quick and dirty things, but not for a large website. ColdFusion is like going down the ASP road, you are too dependent on the vendor.

    I tried ivan, a little guy that you talk to that surfs the web for you. It pretty much sucks right now, few web sites support it. IBM's Viavoice is difficult to remove from windows once it's on there.

    Actually, using JSP (java server pages) with java beans and servlets are fast, just as fast as any other web page. And this also keeps the Java on the web-server side. So an older computer with a somewhat up-to-date browser will be just fine.
