Aside from all the scientific experiments that need the helium for cooling, I wonder how you could consider magnetic resonance imaging as not being important.

By not just having secure login, but in addition requiring signing of every transaction (amount, destination) using a separate piece of hardware from the PC. No man in the middle attack or even trojans on your PC will circumvent that. That's the technique my bank uses, but only for large amounts. I think they should do it for all amounts except perhaps for really trivial ones.

Just got ditched by your Belgian girlfriend or what did we deserve this statement for?

At least we got good-tasting beer that can help you feel less bad about whatever is bothering you :-)

  6. Q: HP cartridges 15 vs. 45 on Anti-Competitive Behavior in the Printer Industry? · · Score: 1

    Hello All,

I've got a related question: I have recently gotten a HP Deskjet 940C. I have also got a rather large stack of 45 large black ink cartridges. But the 940 now takes type 15, which contains a lot less ink than 45 (of course the price doesn't scale the same way - bastards).
While the 15 fits in printers that take 45, the 940 printer refuses to accept the 45 (LED keeps blinking), even though it is otherwise identical. Is there a way of getting these things to work ? It seems to be electronically protected. I read something about putting tape over a certain contact but this does not work either. Some people apparently have also seen 45 cartridges been used in store models of 940.

    greetings,

    You have that backwards.

A standard megabyte is 1 million bytes. A 1048576 byte unit should be referred to as a mebibyte. See for example this link for more details.

It is indeed the case that the error of using powers of two to approximate powers of ten starts getting very large with these big numbers. The solution to that problem is NOT to continue using decimal prefixes for binary units and expect everybody outside of the computing field who now uses those exact same prefixes correctly to adapt themselves, the solution is to use the correct prefixes for the correct values. That way the confusion will disappear in the long term.

I think the introduction of the physical currency will have at least a short-term effect on the value of the Euro. Here in Belgium the new prices in Euro have been invariably rounded up to a nice 10 cent multiple, even though this is supposed to be forbidden. With prices for everything going up I think there will be quite some inflation in the first weeks / months of the physical currency. I expect this to stabilize pretty soon, though.

Oh and by the way, I must agree with the Dutch: the queen Beatrix on the backside of your coins really looks awful. Even our old guy Albert looks better...
