Any visitors who would visit us would not be intelligent visitors. Think of it this way - and I atrribute this analogy to Scott Adams, for all who care - how many of you know how to build a car? Not many. But I'd say most of you know how to drive one. Our first ET contact will probably be some random hick family lost on vacation (oops, that's not Pleasora 4, that's the slipgate to the Dark Zone! hold on to your seats Blorp, Klorg and Mindy-k'a'qra!) which of course means that they'll use the ET version of a sawed of shotgun (read - planet destroying plasma weapons) to scare off them crazy wildlife that're sendin' im all dem radio messages.
Thats why we need nuke platforms all trailing in Jupiter's orbit... blast the damn aliens before they get close enough to screw with us.
Or - maybe an even better idea - advance computer research until we can download ourselves into the Matrix and hide on some asteroid somewhere.
Correct me if I'm wrong (I probably am) but aren't plastics akin to big tangles of threads, whereas normal superconductors have forms that are crystalline? Wouldn't freezing a plastic put incredible stress on the chemical bonds, and eventually cause the whole whatever-the-superconductors-are-used-in thing to fall apart?
I think...
Uh, ALL YOUR CHEMISTRY ARE BELONG TO US!
There, now I HAVE TO get modded up.

True dat. Having RP'd online (in an actual RP environment, not Evercrack) I can truly say that character romance can quickly cause OOC emotions. Not so sure if it's a horrible idea, but the idea of csex or anything resembling it makes me very queasy (thank the PTBs that I have a built in 'way too much involvement' meter:P ).
Granted, I'm not married, so I don't have to worry about adultery on my part, but I think the real issue here isn't so much that it's a role that you're playing, but that it's incredibly difficult to act without at least empathizing with your character, if not feeling the same way.
"Real" actors have scripts. Role-playing comes from in here [emote: points at self], so it's a lot harder to be detached about.
My advice - RP as much as you can until it's not fun anymore. When you begin to feel uneasy, or that you can't tell the difference between IC and OOC anymore, it's time to stop the gravy train.
I notice the much lauded Katz mentions roleplaying. If you're playing a MU* (or god forbid, Evercrack or some other MORPG) and you actually ARE roleplaying a character, is there a difference?
Granted, most people who play these games don't really 'roleplay'. The people who do, however, would contend that the character is not the player - and on their terms, roleplaying a character who is in love with another character is not the same as online romance. Any comments, dotters?
Oh man, was Master of Magic a great game! You can still find it abandonware some places. I would like to see a MoM sequel more than a MOO sequel; I didn't like either MOO or MOO2 as much as MoM.
While we're talking about sci-fi strat games, I wouldn't mind seeing something as good as StarCon2, either.

That's because it's Canadian Tire money. The Canada Mint has decided on a merger.

Just my two bits (1,0).

http://www.hakarren.mudservice.com On Elysium, players control all aspects of the game. Very interesting.
