So any Rap song that rants about 'whitey' should be banned, you say? What about 'progressive' songs from the 60's that rail against 'the Rich'? Doesn't that promote discrimination against society's more successful element? They should be banned as well?
You're right I'm opposed to this, it's not a good thing.
The whole McCarthy/communism thing is kind of an interesting issue.
Joe McCarthy was pretty much run outta town after several years.
The investigation of underground Communists in the government continued.
Since the fall of Communism in Russia and the opening of the secret files from that era, it's been pretty conclusively shown that the people accused were Communists, they were engaged in Treason and Seditious acts....
It was a good thing that the Rosenbergs were executed. It was a good thing that Alger Hiss was taken down.
A lot of the people who squeal in dismay about McCarthyism don't have a clue what they're ranting about.
Have they abandoned yet another decent and inexpensive bunch of cards?
I explicitly bought my STB Powergraph-64 card, back in the day, to run the X Window System. I'd like to think I could still put it into one of my older Pentium boxes and run a current version of Linux (or NetBSD, more likely) on it, including the X server.
Now cards like it are considered too obsolete to support???
When did people with Microsoft attitudes take over the XFree86 project?
We're all running X11. X11r6 in many cases. Many are running release 4.0.2 of Xfree86, which is a port of X11r6 for the pee-cee.
It isn't what I run on one of my 'toy' machines, however, which is a Mac SE/30 with NetBSD. X in a tiny 512x384 display is kinda cramped. It works, though, if you resort to TWM. (imagine running KDE on a display that small- it'd be 50% widget-waste!)
It's my understanding that STB is one of the few hardware vendors who participated in the X Consortium who had anything to do with 'commodity' PC Components.
I have always liked using STB cards with XFree86. They're just good hardware.
If you install GNU Emacs on a classic Mac (Pre OS 10) you can use (esc)-x-shell to drop down to a shell. Then you have the very primative ability to crawl around in the Macintosh filesystem with a few commands (ls, cd, a few others). I suspect the command line could be extended with some lisp code.
Yep, that's one way to get to the command line (and be able to textually move stuff around) on a Macintosh.
You didn't properly specify the filenames of all those loadable modules, dude. Next time, instead of incorrectly listing them as a single directory path, put a *.o extension on each one.
Except the first few top-level parts, which are directory specifiers.
I'm trying to imagine Slashdot without people who choose handles like 'Metal Machine Music' and yet persist in the notion that they're not just as anonymous as anybody who posts as 'Anonymous Coward.'
And, frankly, I can't see anything but very slight differences.

Well, I don't know about you, but I participate in a number of Usenet forms which are of a technical nature, where everybody uses a real name. Hell, I have my cope of Agent configured to post with my real name and primary email address.
People who post on such forums with 'Gandalf' or suchlike hobbit nicknames come off as dorks. They're certainly not being professional.
This weblog, though.... I guess I've never really considered it worthy of my real name.
I just heard somebody who had called into a radio program last night saying he was going to 'get into being a computer programmer for his new career.' It was obviously somebody who's never had any interest in the topic at all up to this point.
Also, isn't '45 percent of fans more likely to have increased their music purchases' at least a second, if not a third derivative? How likely is 'more likely' and what were the purchasing habits of these people before?
I made an MP3 the other day with incredibly tight compression. It's a recording of my 'Spiro Agnew Speaks Out' LP (a 33-1/3 RPM recording of Agnew speech excerpts.) It's a 22 minute long voice recording. By using the tighest compression/lowest sample rate, I was able to get 22 minutes of voice-quality audio to fit into a 1.4 MB.MP3 file. Amazing to fit 22 minutes of audio onto a floppy diskette I can hand out to friends.
Possibly it will be downloadable in the near future, drop me a line if you want the URL when it becomes available. It's amazing how with-the-times what Spiro Agnew said about cultural decay in the late 60's is today. Yes, it includes his 'nattering nabobs' sound bite.
Yep. 'Globalism' (or, rather, continentalism) was what led to the rise of syphilis. That and a new more promiscuious sexual morality. It also was certainly a major factor in the evolution and spread of the AIDS virus.
We're supposedly moving towards the one world government.
We are? News to me.
I know there are some people working toward that.
There are a lot of us working toward local control and regional autonomy, too. Guess what? We'll probably win.
Empires always crumble in the end.
Is censorware forced onto schools and libraries in Europe?
You can't even download 'Wolfenstein 3D' in Germany.

It simply won't be enough for there to be a wide open format. The content providers will have to, well, provide content in that format.
If it's perceived as the 'Pirate's Format' the content providers will boycott it.

X4 would be a whole bunch of versions ago.

If they're being used in the lab to develop weapons of mass destruction, your kidding around might not be far off.

Bradbury didn't 'present a future.'
Bradbury told a story.
There's a big difference: he was able to make up whatever he wanted, without regard for reality.

Yikes! I thought children still comprised the majority of online gamers.
When you look at the real numbers, Men probably constitute 12-18% and Women probably constitute 8-10%.
Female children are not women.
Male children are not men.

These people need to go away.

It's nearly meaningless information.
