I guess the big loser here is French carrier Orange. Dell has been heavily advertising a built-in Orange 3G connection lately here in France. It is an interesting plan -- unlimited minutes for 50 Euros/month BUT you can only connect to a corporate vpn. Unfortunately for Orange, I have found their 3G coverage spotty at best and slow when compared to Vodafone's service. (Which, however, costs an arm & a leg.) The Vodafone network outside of Europe is massive, so this partnership makes sense for Dell. So, let's see...Vodafone+Dell+Intel+Microsoft = VoDelInSoft??
Personally, I would settle for the canning of Berman & Braga. These guys have taken Star Trek so far from the spirit of what was created by Gene Roddenberry, it is ridiculous. New people, new ideas.
I bet the next things on their list are shot for shot re-makes of TOS with new actors & CGIs...
The Bells have just signed their own death warrant. With the spread of 802.11b hotspots, the approval of the 802.16 WirelessMAN standard and 2nd Gen Cable networks, broadband (and with it the Bell's bread & butter -- telephone service) will bypass the phone companies. The market is there & if they drag their feet on upgrading performance, they will get whacked. Why would you pay $39.95 for 768/128k for crappy DSL service when you could get 27Mbps on a 1st gen WirelessMAN...? Innovate or die, gentlemen!
I think I'm done with the web. I've shut the television off (save for The Simpsons). I see no more appealing content on the web and as many or more ads. What's the point? The suits have won.
This is typical over-reaction by the media. Don't you love how every few weeks they get some new 'Techno-demon' that they need to exorcise? Of course they get a quote from some know nothing politico who wants a sound bite. If they took the time to understand encryption (or any other technology), there would be a lot less static on the airwaves...
I weep for the state of modern journalism.
Rant complete.

With inkjet ink costing more per ounce than champagne, King Gillette would be very, very proud...
Does this guy also have a skeleton laced with Adamantium...?
Hmmm...more & more like Copeland evey day...
Correction:
God: Rome won't be built in a day.

If it takes 3 months to install like my DSL did, I don't want it.
