But you can in most of the rest of the [non-muslim] world. Can I buy liquor right now? Only if my state ABC store decides to be open at this hour on this day. Do people get arrested for drinking at bars? Yes, even before leaving the bar, for being drunk. It happened right here in Fairfax county. Do people get arrested for drinking a beer on the porch of their own house? Yes, D.C. did a huge crackdown a few years ago. Do the police frequently leave people in a pool of blood, citing alcohol-inspired behaviour as the cause? Yes, and it's not always the cause; it's a convenient excuse to pull people over who drive late at night, harass drivers, lock you up for a DUI without taking a breathylizer, etc. They can close a club down for silly things like allowing people to take empty cups out of it. If you think alcohol is a free substance, and that the war on drugs is directed at everything else, totally ignoring alcohol, then you do not have a clear perspective in my book.

It's also a free pass for police to beat someone, claiming they were drunk (like that guy in New Orleans they left in a pool of blood). They definitely like anything that is an excuse to pull you over and fuck with you, so criminalizing things is going to be supported by the police, even if it's not in their best interest due to the tax income issue.
But there is still most definitely a war on alcohol and nicotine going on. In fact, there are plenty of dry counties around, and liquor laws are used to control all sorts of things beyond their scope (behavior in private clubs, for example).

Around the time Maxtor and Western Digital dropped their warranties from 2yrs to 1yr (or was it 3 to 2?), Seagate increased their warranty to FIVE years. In terms of guaranteed gigabytes per year, Seagate is clearly the best buy. The book is completely closed in my mind, with no need to reconsider. Guaranteed drives for 5 years. Meanwhile, with another brand, you may have to buy the same drive 3 times during that period. Screw that.
Don't believe their "unlimited usage for power users" lie. They not only terminated me, but tried to get me to pay the $300 early termination fee when *THEY* terminated *ME*. In their case, they specifically told me (after a few months of what I consider to be harasssment) "download more than 100G, and we'll cut you off". This was $90/month "fancy" internet that I bought, when I could have gotten Verizon FIOS (fiber) for $40. I even had a pre-sales chat, where they lied to me and told me I could download 100% of my bandwidth 100% of the time without ever getting terminated. I took screenshots, because I had a feeling Speakwasy was lying to me. And indeed, SpeakEasy WAS lying to me.
I use Silcon. I pay about $60/mo for 3M down, 768K up. I use 100% of my bandwidth 100% of the time. Nothing gets slowed down. I've been doing this well over a year. I have multiple static IP addresses and don't have to deal with per-computer PPPOE bullshit like with Earthlink (worst ISP EVER, except for SpeakEasy who are total fucking liars). So anyway, go with a mom-and-pop. They work. Check their availability with http://www.broadbandreports.com.
