Also, speaking of stocks, I run my own Day Trading/Swing Trading website journal. Everything is free, so check out GroupShares.com.

There is a type of population control that exists for most species, and even though humans have continously gained in population, we have only done so because of our knowledge to fending off population control diseases/disasters/etc.

Would machines follow this same type or universal standard of population control or would they just envelope every item they could?

    Who knows, not me.

Anyway, stupid plug for a new website im working on, GroupShares.com. If you are into the stock market and want to see a live journal, etc, then check it out. Of course everything is free.

  7. Maybe its Uses are Misunderstood on Is VOIP Over WLAN DOA? · · Score: 2, Interesting

75% of my day is surrounded by WiFi access, however, that access is not always free (Tmobile, Leap Auth., Hotel services). I think that the problem with VOIP via WiFi is just that - not all WiFi is free. If we had free WiFi everywhere, then carrying a small VOIP would be cost effective, but would I throw away my cell phone? No. What if I broke-down on the side of the road? VOIP WiFi has no regard for those "emergency" situations. However, I would definitely get rid of my current VOIP "land line" and buy a WiFi model that I could take with me instead.

On another note, Im trying to get some users to a new website I created. It is basically my "day trading" stock journal online. Everything is free of course, so if you like stocks, I recommend taking a look. GroupShares.com.

  9. Slowing Down = Good for Open Source on NewsForge On U.S. Advice To EU On Software Patents · · Score: 3, Insightful

I think patents in the U.S. slow down the product development process to some extent. By slowing down the process, Open Source competition can grow, and allow for software "alternatives" to arrive on the market first. The other problem with software, which is stated in the article, is that most new software is based off of previous software and this can lead to stunted growth of otherwise good applications.

Also, the fact that patents cost money can lead some software projects to open source licensing directly in order to ensure protection. I see this as good for the open source community, but bad for the software industry. Although, maybe I am misunderstanding the article.

On a side note, if you like the stock market/day trading/momentum trading/swing trading, I have built a website which showcases my paper trades. Everything is free of course, so please check it out - GroupShares.com

  10. Microsoft Software as a Whole on What Keeps You Off of Windows? · · Score: 4, Insightful

I am a hardcore Mac user back from the old days, but I gave up on Apple for a few years. OS Lineage for me: Mac->Win3.1->Win98->Debian->Debian->XP->OSX. However, my mac is not perfect and some mundane CPU intensive tasks such as Stock Streamers, just run better on XP. Recently, I got the sasser virus on my XP laptop before I knew what it was, and then, I did a clean install. Because of work (Oracle Programming and Stock Stuff), I am still forced to use windows, but at home, my windows laptop is never even touched.

On the other hand, if you look at Microsoft Software as a whole, there are some great applications. I absolutely love the new office for OSX, and microsoft Project for windows has virtually no competition - even from Oracle. Truly, XP has come a long way from the 98SE crash fest, but the fact that Microsoft leaves the systems wide open is never good.

Im not an M$ fan, but you have to admit, that if they get their act together, we could be in for some trouble. Even from my OSX world.

On a side note, I want to plug a new site that I just made live. If you are interested in Day trading or the stock market check it out: Group Shares.com.
