I have never been a huge SUSE fan because of their somewhat commercialized attitude, and based on the screenshots from the article it looks like this version is going to be no exception. However, if it gets more linux users on the wagon, go for it!
Well, we all know that one can die by too much water intake, and I would assume coffee would be similar, but what about medical problems? I myself have Super-ventricular-tachicardia which causes me to get an irregular beat if my caffiene intake is too high. I would assume there are a multitude of other afflictions like that which would kill a person much quicker than by the 100cups alone. I would assume that i have consumed about 25cups in a day before, and I have been fine..
I loved my SL-5500 PDA from sharp for about 2 weeks, and then tossed it in a drawer along with my Palm IIIx and Newton. I am sure that there are many out there that love PDAs, but my cell phone has done everything I have ever needed out of a PDA. I'd rather spend the $700 and get the Sony Ericsson P800 phone with the megapixel cam, etc!
Maybe when we have star trek like PDAs that will analyze everything about my surroundings i'd be more receptive.
Seems awesome, i am even more proud that they did this on OSX first. Although, development with Xcode is extremely easy. Anyway, how are they going to deal with people that visit thousands of webpages a day/week. Is their history going to catalog all of those images and take screenshots of each one? It seems like there would be some huge memory/efficiency requirements and would make the browser more unstable as you visit more website. Apple's own safari has a similar problem with web icons even, let alone whole thumbnail images!
Although, it would make searching through all my previous porn a lot more fun;).
Being a mac user means that we too exist in this open source community. I am disappointed in the fact that Open Office releases are delayed as much as they are for OSX when most other apps migrate over considerably faster. Open Office should encourage mac users to download their software, instead of making it seem like a burden for them to create updates for us. For me, there is no point in using OOo when I cannot keep current with the rest of the linux/windows community in an app. Just my $0.02.
I think tablets do have a potential future in the student/business market, and Linux has an opportunity to dominate if more developers jump on the wagon. Microsoft is taking huge software leaps with Journal, OneNote, etc., and the Linux community needs to catch up. Personally, I won't buy a tablet until it can have 100% handwriting recognition + streaming TV + 100% voice recognition + video recording of some sort built-in. Now, that I see as a good product!
I used to be a huge debian fan because of apt-get and the direct install of packages, but I have migrated to OSX and find myself needing to build packages from scratch to work correctly. However, I will never hesitate to use Fink as much as possible. I think for 90% of what gets installed the packages should be fine, but if you know that there are certain optimizations that you can implement, why not build from scratch?
If you have the money, a cheap end Tumi backpack is perfect for what you need. I have the slate blue version which costs about $250. It has room to carry my 16.1" Vaio and my 15" G4 perfectly, as well as power supplies, iPod, and a myriad of other things that I can jam in there! It is perfect for flights too.
Just my 0.02. Also, if you take your laptop(s) to Tumi, a salesperson will help you out finding the right bag.
Yes, but not the version of JDeveloper for doing Oracle Application Framework development. That version is 5.7H2 which does not exist for the mac (YET,but hopefully soon).
My company specializes in Business Process Optimization (E-Integrate LLC.) We use macs for nearly all of our programing, movie making, and Oracle database development and administration. As a company, we are trying to move solely to Linux and OSX. There have only been a few tasks where windows is still needed and those are slowly diminishing such as Oracle JDeveloper development and terminal services connections. Each month we are expanding our employees to have mostly powerbooks, however, I am still forced to carry around my powerbook and vaio for a few more months:(. We currently have about 0.8 macs/employee and about 0.2 windows machines/employee with 8 Linux Servers running Oracle Collaboration Suite and 9i.
Sorry about rambling, just wanted to throw in my $0.02. AJ
Finally, a large government has adopted this kind of standard. Hopefully more countries and more companies will join the bandwagon after seeing such a large example of free software implementation!
I have been using a nomad jukebox 20gb for about 3yrs at about 4 hours per day in my car with not one complaint over the lifetime of the product. I plan on going for the sleeker zen when i pick up a new car shortly and run an aux-in cable to the head unit. The iPod is awesome, but you are paying for the apple name and commercialization. Save some money.
Im curious as to if this is IBM's response to Oracle's "underground" consulting group. (underground as in, just regular employees doing the consulting when needed instead of just hiring another party) Now, IBM will have a direct link to their customers and can provide them a complete access tool. Anyone have any thoughts on Oracle/if it will effect oracle's stock in a negative manner drastically?
Hey. I think the Genre of music you would like would either be of a House music nature or more of a drum and bass nature.
For house music start with some awesome albums specifically Dance Factory by Louie Devito (He did all of the NYC Underground Volumes) also check out DJ Irene. If you liked metal music and just got into this electronic genre try some DJ Venom.
I write for the online magazine Kludge Sound so check that out as I review a lot of albums in this genre for them.
As for the drum and bass/trance genres are concerned. Bad Boy Bill (Bangin the Box Vol.5) is house music and some scratching, but hardcore is an artist called DJ Shadow *highly recommended* and like you mentioned earlier Paul Oakenfold is always good.
Other than that just check out your favorite dance music on cdnow they should have a good list!

For my engineering/chemistry professor last year i needed to write a biographyon Heisenberg man. My biography is pretty in depth and a worthy read if anyone is interested. It can be found @ http://artlu.net/essays/wernerbio.html Enjoy, AJ
At my current young age of 18, i work for Oracle and am in an Integrated Business and Engineering program at Lehigh University. With this program i will graduate in 5 years with a Masters in any area of engineering (biomedical, chemical, or computers - im not sure which yet) and also a Bachelor's in business. Afterwards, i am thinking about going into psychiatry and working with the non humanistic version of people's minds. Or making a computer human? Who knows? But, i think i'll have many weird and creative options to 'engineer' in either computers or other.:)

I think everyone in the world knew that a system built like a computer would be easily emulated on a computer. However, the speed at which this emulator came into the public eye is astonishing. Now.. if only i could find a PS2 emulator to play Final Fantasy X....

To me it would depend on the job. If i was able to work from home, for instance, working on a holiday would be no problem. Or if it was something i really enjoyed, i would gladly work on a holiday. However, if i had to do manual labor or pump gas (no offense to anyone), i would resent the work... unless i was getting paid double time of course!

With the new 2.5 kernel tree being debuted to the world just a few days ago, it is no surprise that a new 'stable' kernel is out in time for the holidays! Thanks to all of those who made it possible.. Time to reboot!
Happy Holidays,
AJ
Hey! Now instead of using my photon light from thinkgeek.com to light my path i can shine it on computer systems and log in or use the different colors on an ATM machine in order to get someone else's money! Not to shabby for only $30!
My $0.02.

I was changing the fans (the one i had on was a 7200RPM fan and it was just to loud for me to sleep). As i was taking it off, i broke one of the socket clips that it connects to by accident. So i wanted to see if i ruined the chip and just turned it on with the fan resting on top of it and it shut off after only 4 seconds. So then that ruined the chip. Granted it was a stupid thing to do on my part, but im much happier with my new system then old! And, i learned something, so oh well thats life.
