  1. My new patent on Company Claims Patent on CD Writing · · Score: 1

    I hereby patent gluteus soothing.
The process to which I want my patent is:
Soothing the gluteus using the calcium deposits residing on the end of one or multiples of epidermaly covered digits extending from one's arm.

I'm gonna make a fortune, especially from all those patent clerks and M$ goons.
It seems that's all the do all day

  2. It's all about the benjamins and the ego on Have You Fought Your ISP Over Bandwidth Limits? · · Score: 2, Informative

Less than two months ago I worked for an ISP, it serviced about a 300 mile radius and had about 7000 customers. It's TOS (terms of service)was canned and podged together from other ISP's TOS. It had many restrictions and lot's of fine print. It seemed to me the owner was one part facist, one park pseudo geek, two parts ego, and three parts ass. Classic money grubbing scrooge.

On a whim he would scan the stats program for the dial-in boxes and find anyone connected over nine hours, and cut off the ones that were on the longest(usually 12 hours plus) He would then instruct us through the billing system not to reconnect them unless we tell them to go to our boradband service or find another provider. His rationalization? Dial-up was not a dedicated service, them tying up that phone line cost him money. I've had many a customer scream into the phone at me that they paid for access, and they shouldn't be penalized for using it. We also had wirless access, he had us (Sys-Admins) use HTB to throttle many PTP connections to uselessness.

  3. "many computers dont have viruses" on Windows Security Holes Go Mostly Unexploited · · Score: 1

What a crock of user dung! I work at an WISO/ISP/Computing/Network enginerring business, we get ten to fifteen machines a week infected with some variant of the newest nasty bug.

I have my own ideas of how viri get started. They include some far fetched conspiracy theories that I won't bother you good folk with.

My point being, windows holes do get exploited, and viri spread like user superstion and ignorance. It is a great big endless cycle. The great part about it? I get paid. Those users, while I loathe their inability to look for their own answers and have the pride of learning themselves. I do appreciate the fact that they come back and keep me in a job.

  4. 802.11b will work on Non-Invasive Networking - HomePNA vs. HomePlug? · · Score: 1

I work at a WISP (wireles ISP) We use ORINoCO (Lucent in a prety box)equipment and have really good results. As for the whole line of sight idea; it is true, but only if you are putting up a link that exceeds two blocks. If you buy a decent AP (linksys is horrible) and some standard Lucent(Linux waveLAN ) pcmcia cards, and use pci converter cards, you will have no problem with setting up a home network. IF you really want to work some magic, use the ad hoc modes, and have one boxen (preferably Linux) as your gate way. That way, all of your computers feed each other bandwidth.

For some reason I don't like the idea of HPNA, or using my electrical outlets to do networking. The best bet would be CAT 5 or WiFi.

I have the above configuration working at several businesses and at my home, feel free to go to the website and find my E-Mail and I can answer some of your questions on setting something like this up.

...that works, or we could /. the authorities and go check all the books out on subject like bombs, Israel, Jihad, Boeing 747, Avionics, etc. Of course this could be considered interfearing with law enforement. Just a thought, almost like the idea of flooding carnivore with sig lines full of propeganda.

Perhaps a better solution than inaction.

  6. Screw the MPAA, and the RIAA on Predicting The End Of Digital Copying · · Score: 1

Hopefully the industry will not lose sight of one important fact. No matter how powerful the legislation or enforcement, the populous will do what they see fit. If people want to copy movies the technology will arise to get around copy protection. Ask yourself; do I want Valenti telling me what I can watch? Reguardless of wheather or not you can pay to see whatever, the fact that you must pay to see it limits your freedom.

If we truly are headed to an information prohibition there is a long hard road ahead, and the nightmare possibility of me or one of my freinds getting arrested for trading disney movies or episodes of "Blues Clues" for our children to watch is ridiculous. it seems that money is all that matters.

Screw it, seems time to check out of mainstream and unplug.

  8. I hereby proclaim im no longer a U.S. Citizen on Is Law Copyrighted? · · Score: 1

Fuck this country and fuck these laws. I was taught that to be a citizen of this country if free, thats not so. I was taught that in order to be a citizen of this country I must follow all Federal, State, and local laws, I am unable to do this. Not buy being unwilling, but by corportization. We are not free people we must pay taxes in order to keep freedom, and If I have no money I cant be free. I live in an apartment complex, and in exchange for rent I do maintenance tasks. Under the law that is fully taxable, I do profit from this but not in any monetary sense, I basicaly have a home in exchange for services. The IRS says I must pay tax on this, but if I dont get monetary funds I cant give them money.. see the paradox? Now in order for me to build a home I must obtain building codes, but I must pay over 700$ for those bulding codes, if I dont use those codes I get fined, damned if I do damed If I dont. So I say fuck this country it is no different from the others, we dont have to join the millitary when we become of age, we just have to serve the government in other way, like working for the food reich (McD's, Taco Hell, etc. or we can work for the retail crap reich, Wall Fart, Jears, or kower records, etc. I am not working for the puppets but for the real government the corporations. Maybe we should call it United Companies of America or maybe we can call it USA inc.© If this crap keeps up the flag will have that copywrite symbol on it and if we create one or print one out without paying royalties we will be fined and arrested. I want to know who is going to own the copywrite to words, used to be that art was copywrited and that was fine, then whole books, I can even accept this, music? yea those people should get payed, but now the law, next I fear it will be the words we speak, and I will make sure I am not around to see that.

  9. RE:your rights online on Censorware to be Mandatory in Schools, Libraries · · Score: 1

Slap me in the back fat if I am wrong. Is it not the parents job to teach children morals, and how to deal with society (e.g. adults, authorities, instructors, other children) and such. Is it not the task of the school to teach academics (Mathmatics, Grammar, Science, History,)? Where in any of that does "you are not allowed to view electronic material we think is wrong" (we being people totally foreign to students) come into any of that BUT the parents involved? It is a very simple problem to solve. Permission slips, if the parents want's the child to be able to surf freely then make the parents that dont want to allow that, not sign the permmision slip. Problem solved, if parents dont send them back then they wanted to keep kids away from the obejectionable matter (?), if they do send them back they have taken an active role in parenting, and have actually "looked in to it". Hope I have cleared this up and yes I did use contractions, and horrible punctuation, but it is a /. post after all.
