  1. Possibly correct on Should Developers Support Windows Phone 8? · · Score: -1, Redundant

As much as I hate a lot of what Microsoft has done both in terms of quality and moral choices, I have to admit they may have gotten this one right. Despite a small market share, even Steve Wozniak endorsed the phone (without being paid, I imagine). Meanwhile, though I love a lot of what Google does, there's no doubt that Android has fragmentation issues. If we see a Google-Motorolla equivalent of the iPhone soon, they may nuke the market, but past that, Windows Phone is something that just might work.

  3. Re:"Microsoft's Downfall" on Microsoft's 'Cannibalistic Culture' · · Score: 5, Insightful

Oh, "Downfall" is more accurate than you think. Microsoft won't last unless it changes significantly. There are several things working against it: Programmers hate Microsoft. Every university, every professor, everyone works on a unix-based system. This leads them to Linux/Unix. Ballmer then slams those and calls them parasistes (look up his views on the GPL). So where do these really talented programmers go? Unless they can't help it, not Microsoft! So now you have unskilled workers. The best go to Google, then facebook, then amazon, then startups, etc, and Microsoft gets whatever is left. Is it any wonder their technology isn't as good as Google's? It's gotten so bad that even their own employees notice. Do you know what a Microsoft employee uses at home? Linux/Mac. Do you know what they use to listen to music? Maybe a Window's Phone but just as likely an iPhone. What do they read their books on? iPads. How do they send their personal emails? Gmail. An employee at Google would take a bullet for the company. An employee at Microsoft is wondering how long until the next iPad comes out. This might not be a completely fair review on my part, but it sums up my views. And the way I see it, a company like this just CAN'T compete with the rest. The only thing they have going for them is that mixture of Steve Ballmer's bottomless money bag and the fact that the average computer user will just use whatever OS comes with their box and that's going to be Windows. But that's not a solid business plan and they need to change.

  4. Not even moderately surprised on Facebook Says Your Email Is @Facebook · · Score: 1

This is the biggest joke of a tech company around. It's built around an idea that is, at it's core, letting everyone keep an online list of all the people they know and have dick-measuring contests to see who knows the most. Why people continue to be shocked when FB does these sorts of things is the only thing I'll never understand. This article could have just read "LOL! FB is at it again!" Surprise-o-meter on a scale of 1 to 10: potato

  5. Am I reading this right? on Microsoft To PC and Tablet Makers: You're Not Our Future · · Score: 1

So basically, Microsoft went up to all of the hardware manufacturers it's friends with and said "We're trying to leave you."? There's no way any company would be dumb enough to make that many enemies at once, right?

  6. Hold on a moment on Schneier Calls US Stuxnet Cyberattack a 'Destabilizing and Dangerous' Action · · Score: 1

The wold will inevitably rely on cyberwarefare soon enough, much like how everyone uses computers now. And most people don't understand how a computer works so they just buy "friendly gadgets" that only expose the buttons and are otherwise cute, little boxes. If we apply that logic, aren't we going to end up designing Megaman soon?

  7. Re:Not surprised. on Why VCs Really Reject Startups · · Score: 1

True, but didn't they have no idea what to do with their algorithm for a good chuck of their first year? While they were successfull by the time the VC's came around, their angel investors must have been pretty optimistic. I do think it's interesting though that Google at its heart is run by people who do software, not business (Larry Page, Sergey, even ES, who majored in Electrical Engineering). Maybe more companies would be successful if they weren't run by people who don't know what a computer is?

  9. For me, it's Microsoft on Ask Slashdot: What's Your Beef With Windows Phone? · · Score: 1

If I had to pick one thing, I would have to say that it's how Microsoft doesn't seem to care. They seem to just have the same piece of software, giving it a facelift every few years, but still keeping the core shit the same. If they haven't caught on by now, I doubt they will. It's a backwards culture. That's why my prediction is that Windows phone will fail.
