    is running 90 MHz, with a 500Mhz system bus, it's 128bit graphics pipeline has features (such as full screen anti-aliesng) that are only now showing up in 3d cards. It's an impressive peice of tech, and its also only running at 512x384 res, not to hard to pull off

    Dispite this, games like quake and UT really do take advantage of newer hardware. Things like multi-pass rendering etc really improve the game.

    The game is also somewhat playable on my p200mmx, with a riva128 graphics card.

    I don't know about unreal, but Q3a has a single player mode, where the computer emulates online players. The code is pretty good, and the bots work well (they'll even hurl insults at you :)

    Seriously, they do. They want to kill it, NT is there babie. They hate that people write games only for 9x that don't work on NT. They tell developers to use NT as there game development environment. The problem with DX is that It dosn't 'mesh' well with the NT system...

    Supposedly, it was the name of Norse god (in the same group as Thor). I think that's what I remember reading on a website back in 95 or whenever...

    The orgional game quake went through some pretty major changes in theme when it was being developed, aztec, Techno (like doom/quake2), and the final Gothic arcitecture.

    I've always done it one handed, so for me it's alt+ctl+delete. Interestingly, I'd never actualy noticed that people were saying it, and writing it diffrently untill someone pointed out that I was saying it 'wrong'.

    You said that the gulf war was 'idiotic', does that mean that the war in Serbia was idiotic as well? Of course not! The war in Kosovo was about people the war in the gulf was about Oil. And of course, Kuwaitis aren't really people, because they're not white...

    Now, we all no the real reason why you think one was ok, and the other wasn't (or at least the prototypical republicrat) was because Clinton was in charge of one, and Bush was in charge of the other. When facts are twisted in newsgroup postings about FreeBSD vs. Linux, or Sony vs. Nintendo, it bothers me, when its done about real issues, that effect real people, It makes me sick.

    Think about how many problems this country has (drug use, high crime rates, poverty levels, etc, etc, etc) that could have been solved by now if the parties would work together instead of fucking up so that they can blame each other. Oh, but I forgot it's all party 'A's fault, Party 'B' is trying to fix it, and party A is standing in the way, my mistake...

    What gore says now is meaningless. what he says ment then meaningless. I'm nither republican or democrat, but you are the one who's lying. Al gore said he invented the internet. he said it unequivocally.

    Al Gore is a man so clueless in technology that he at one point belive that he created the internet. Wether he does now is beside the point (I doubt he does). Gore has been a strong supporter of the clipper chip, and encryption exsport controls.

    Now, I don't know what version of the English language you use, but to me when some one says they invented something it means that they invented it(note that he did not say that he helped invent the internet) or at least that they think they did. Not that they 'helped open it up to the public' or some other idiotic partisan spin-doctoring.

    You're the ones who look like fools after awhile. Little retarded kids who repeat the same joke over and over and over again.

    And, by the way, if he thinks he helped open it up to the public, he's wrong. Gore worked on a couple of bills that provided funding for super-computer research funding, and not much else (wired did a report on what he said) He's also a staunch supporter of the Clipper chip, and encryption export controls

    With most of the fixed costs of the DNA testing being covered by a group of benefactors, we are left with funding the remainder of the so-called "peripheral" testing. This will consist of the Carbon 14 dating to age the Starchild; the neutron spectroscopy to determine the chemistry and makeup of its bone; an endocranial study to determine the kind of brain it had; and perhaps the most eagerly awaited by everyone, a full facial reconstruction done as a clay model by a qualified forensic sculptor.

    These costs could run as high as $10,000 if we get a Rolls-Royce reconstruction done (using a $3,000 acrylic stereolithographic copy as the core), but we will go with what we have when the time comes to pay for it. What we get will be dictated by what we can afford, so anyone who might care to help us over the last few hurdles can do so in either of the following ways.
    Looks like its just a cheap way to get some $$, I could do somthing similar, I'd bet. They don't even have any pics!

Anyway, I think the alien skull is actualy a 70 year old super computer that the NSA used to make a bewulf cluster ot of in 1920. Its all a part of Echelon p33r the N$A...

    Was that actually the case? Was Packet storm actually displaying images of JP's little sister along with her full name, etc? I have absolutely no reason to believe anything that comes out of JPs mouth, but at the same time, I have a hard time believing that he would make up such a ridicules statement.

    I remember at the time of the incident, JP posted an 'edited' version of Ken Williams statement (That didn't hash with the PGP signature...), I'd really be interested in finding out what the content *actually* was.

    I've never had any experience with the guy, And my only impressions were based on what others said about him.

    Despite this, his responses were *exactly* what I would have expected, from the person described. I mean, *I* could have done a better job of defending myself, of course I never would have put myself in that position to begin with...

    His whole attitude was basically "fuck off, idiots, I can do whatever the he hell I want." I don't know what AO does, but I suspect that they make much of there money from page-views, but if people don't have a good impression of him, he wont get many impressions.

    This guy is an arrogant, childish moron. He had the opportunity to remove that perception, but instead he reinforced it.

    .But in the long run, let's see who stands.. John or those who are attempted to down him..

    I cannot see this man standing much longer...

    Its not really parrallel processing though, I think it would be more 'semetric', IE each chip doing one particular task, the one its best suted for. This is the way q3a works, each chip is given a spesific job. But, a 9000 chip intel box wouldn't run quake any faster then a 2 chip intel box.

    anyway, all I ment in the comment about 3d gaming was that PCs are better then Macs for 3d gaming, no one, exsept maybe apples marketing department, would deny this. And a comparable PC would be cheaper then a comparable mac.

    Yes, there are other uses for floating point, but the primary use in consumer situations is games. If a sciantest really needed high-power floating point, they could get an Alpha or somthing.

    You can't compare the FLOP level for these super computers to the flop level of a super computer, A single-chip system will get much, much higher flops/chip then a super computer. So you would need a lot more then 2000 g4's to equal the performance of these ASCI's.

    Also, just like the PowerPCs, the Intel chips used are very old, Pentium Pros, probably running at about 200mhz. I'd be willing to bet that an Athlon running at 800mhz, the fastest you could buy, would easily beat a G4 at 450mhz, the fastest you can buy...
    You Mac freaks never realize that is not performance per box, its price/performance, and the PC kicks the crap out of a Mac. (esp. for 3d gaming, witch is really the only need consumers have for all that FP)

    I would love to be able to say I've seen one of the 500 fastest super computers in the world.

    A funny story about that box, when I went down there, and saw it the first thing I thought was that all those lights represented CPUs, then I figured it would have been imposible, since it would have certanly made it one of the fastest computers on earth....
