Reinvesting the cash is nice and all, but it would totally kick ass if M$ would pay some dividends. According to classical stock valuation, M$ should go through the roof.
If you ask on slashdot, it must be AC. How much more anonymous can you get for your tld?
What is going to matter a little more than whois info is where is the company located? If you pay a US company to set up a.anonymoustld address, and you post some hinky stuff, the US still finds out who you are through the registrar. If you are really worried, then you better pay out of your swiss bank account, because if you use Visa to pay that foreign registrar, the three-letter-agencies are going to find out anyway.
In short, pick whatever you think is most 733+, because the black helicopter guys are going to find you anyway.
I think you mean OBD-II. It is an emissions requirement for all 1996 and newer autos and light trucks sold in the US. It largely has to do with ensuring that the emissions controls of the car (O2 sensor, cat, etc) are working properly. Problem is, it is possible for a non-OEM to make a part that, while it doesn't bugger up the emissions, it does bugger up OBD-II stuff, making the car think there is a problem (when it comes to emissions, running better than it should is just as bad as running not as well).
I've seen Hercules as well. While an okay movie, it certainly wasn't a 'grand Disney spectacle'. I think the push isn't so much to make money on the movie as on the toys, McDonald's tie-ins, etc. How much more money did these movies make in merchandising? I assume these figures are only for ticket sales.
The quality is certainly down since even Beauty and the Beast and Lion King. I blame overly PC stories. Compare Lion King and Snow White to latter movies. These earlier movies had horrible eviscerations and truly frightening moments. The same can hardly be said about...New Groove...
There is also the point that older movies (Snow White, Cinderella, Winnie the Pooh) were based on older source material. In many cases, classic stories known by anyone born in the west. The new stuff... Tripe.
Actually, tapes are less resilient than DVDs in my experience. Why? Tape stretch. Lots of people poo-poo this, and I did also. It took quite a bit of watching to render it unusable. But there is a minor bit of information that degrades after 5-6 showings: the captioning. I finally stopped renting tapes for my wife unless I got them on release day. The tape stretch, heat/cold cycles, or cosmic rays disrupted the captioning while the picture and sound were fine.
Now if only Universal Studios would caption their fucking movies properly.
Good ideas. And, I believe that is the way it works already. That is why fitness for purpose, merchantibility, etc. is disclaimed in most software licenses. I used to keep a copy around the desk, but I shuffled it over the weekend, so can't quote chapter and verse from a current MS EULA. The trick is, you should have access to the EULA on the outside of the 'retail' package and should have to sign a EULA before ordering your shiny new Dell. (Unless you are one of the unfortunates, like myself, who live in VA or MD, where it is binding anyway).
Ahh, just found it.
...disclaim all other warranties, either express or implied, including, but not limited to implied warranties of merchantibility and fitness for a particular purpose with regard to the SOFTWARE, the accompanying written materials, and any accompanying hardware...NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES...not be liable for any damages whatsoever...
Yup. Binding on me, a resident of the People's Republic of Maryland.
Yes, he misused Moore's Law, but there should be a corollary relating to hard drive space. I am not sure that we'll be talking about terabyte drives (although I could see PVR's holding an array that consists of a terabyte) but there's no reason to believe that the entry level drive won't be.25 to.5 TB. So while it might be convenient today, it certainly won't be tomorrow.
What's the alternative? Misusing Moore's Law (which applies to transistors) for bandwidth as you did for hard drive storage, in 4 or 5 years we'll be able to download entire movies in minutes. Do we start door-to-door FBI raids? Do we hope people will just play fairly? Do we have the government subsidize media companies? Do we just let them go out of business?
Umm... Not sure what you are getting at here. Taking umbrage at his claims that it's okay now? Saying that this would lead to FBI raids? I think it's just written so it's a little confusing.
But that won't stop me from offering up an opinion (it is/. after all). That sounds like the way things can eventually be. Wasn't that Norwegian kid extradited for DeCSS? No, we don't subsidize the media companies. We DO let them go out of business. Why should Universal Studios be any different than Enron? Cockamamie business plan leads to corporate death. Oh well. I don't see the Feds giving a handout to the business I work for during tough times. I didn't see them help out the local whitebox shop when they had a rough spot. Why is Hollywood different?
The government will be 'forced' only in that they would like to keep their stipends, er, campaign contributions from Disney et al.
Ummm... Okay. Whatever. Reread the comment, moron. I clearly stated I would rather spend time with them than have them buy me stuff. If you'd be happier with a crappy tie than wrestling with the kids (and 'special wrestling' with mommy later on) I think you're the one in need of relationship help.
I really hope my wife/child don't get me anything. I have very specific wants/needs. For example: a new power supply for my computer. No, not a generic, one of the PP&C 400 watt silent jobs. I need a brewpot. Preferably stainless. I need an outdoor cooker. I need to play with the legs to see if it is stable enough.
The best thing they can do is leave me alone for 24 hours. Barring that, spend 24 hours doing stuff with me. Worst case scenario: buy shit for me.
Interesting question. Sadly, even if modded all the way up, I seriously doubt that this question would be put to Mr. Love. And I think we can all guarantee that all of his answers will be churned back through the PR machine.
Have there ever been any jobs in SW England? (I assume you mean Wales). For cryin' out loud, my family got kicked out of there a couple hundred years ago for not being able to keep a job. Okay, okay, maybe they missed a few bills here and there from drinking too much. But I'd drink too if I were a six foot tall coal miner.
I don't disagree at all with your statement regarding the lack of ethics of most college students. However, some AUP by the University is closing that particular barn door WAY after the horses are gone. Maybe they can be beaten into submission, but... probably not.
Right on, man. A moral standard must be higher than the legal standard for either morals or law to be effective. One of the great tragedies of the past... 40 years? in the US is the increasing use of legislated morality. This started with the civil rights acts of the 60's, continued with the war on drugs, and is clearly seen in current copyright cases (amongst others). (BTW, there are many, many, many other examples in US history, particularly. Part of having been settled largely by religious zealots.)
The problem is that it is a problem that is stuck in a mean feedback loop. I'll go back even earlier, and pick prohibition as the start. Something that most people are okay with (drinking) is outlawed. Not just the mafia, but regular folks think the law is bullshit. So they ignore it. Even worse, they drink more, engage more in the bad behaviour. They have just lowered their moral standards. Another law comes along that is not widely popular. People ignore it, engage even more in breaking that law, lose more respect for the law, lower their standards...
You can't legislate morality. While certainly not a modern-day republican, and not a Hilary R. Clinton supporter, it DOES take a dedicated populace to instill morals in youth. How can I instill a strong moral base on my child when he is constantly bombarded with various consumerist/sexist images? It's tough. Luckily, I have a stronger will than he does:) For now:) But I have a near total disrespect for US law. Am I supposed to say 'trust the police officer', or 'demand an attorney since you were probably busted for a BS law'.
This could quickly turn into a journal entry, so I'll just end it like that.
Damn, where do I get a Tivo that cheap?
Reinvesting the cash is nice and all, but it would totally kick ass if M$ would pay some dividends. According to classical stock valuation, M$ should go through the roof.
It could be ODB-II. I haven't looked that much into car stuff in a while.

Well, the lady who cleans my house wants a DVD player. Her husband is a service writer at a car dealership. Hardly Silicon Valley yuppies.
He's waiting for an apology from the creators of "South Park: Bigger, Better, Uncut" for their slanderous, anti-Canadian diatribe.
"You know who scares me? Canadians. On a quiet night in Buffalo, you can hear them up there, sharpening their skates, just waiting to attack."
(Before anyone gets on my ass, I spent my honeymoon in Canada. Lovely place. And they're more than welcome to make all the US jokes they want.)
"Record & Tape Traders"? Is that someone from Baltimore I hear?
BTW, snake eyes could kick your ass.

I agree, however, the original question seemed to imply that the guy has responsibility with no power or budget (or knowledge). In that case, CYA.

I just want to find a copy of the phantom edit to burn to a VCD.

I have yet to find an Englander (?) who did care for the Welsh. Surprised you folks haven't offered to trade Sealand for Wales:)
Could be one of the reasons I didn't vote for his boss:)
But, like I said, the Republicans are hardly alone in their efforts to legislate morality.
My mistake. Thought the original post was referring to the island as opposed to the country.
