  1. POP motherboard supplies are more important. on Rumors Of MP PowerMac G4 Flying! · · Score: 1

Quad systems will be expensive. This means that they will have relatively little impact (low sales volumes). A much more interesting announcement would be the availability of cheap single CPU boards maybe based on IBM's POP specification.

If they challenge you on your decisions and refuse to support them then *why* are you still working there?

Why would you work for an organisation who do not trust the judgement of their own employees? There are a lot of good employers out there who trust and value the skills of their employees.

  8. The DNS is being abused and should be redesigned. on Ranking The Domain Name Registrars · · Score: 1
    Well, it's a mess.

The DNS system is designed to be a heirarchical naming system. It is certainly not being used in this manner.

Everyone wants a .com address and so the .com namespace has become flattened. DNS is no longer heirarchical and failed name searches can take a significant amount of time and have a significant system overhead. It also means that people have to fight over the namespace, hence all these lawsuits and trademark disputes and domain squatting.

The new top level domains are simply not enough to fix this. The desirable namespaces will simple be occupied by the people occupying the .com space, the name registrars will make more money and the DNS will continue to be abused.

A better solution would be to limit all individuals and organisations to 3rd or 4th level domains. The top level, second level and maybe even third level domains should be reserved for domain administration purposes only.

Use the DNS the way it is supposed to be used.
