Yes indeed .. why not? That's one of those quintessential questions. It's like the question "Why aren't we all driving around in cars powered by Tesla's black box" or "Why are we still burning fossil fuels when the problem of abundant energy was solved nearly a hundred years ago" or "Why are we all working 40 hour weeks when there's enough automation to work 12 hour weeks" or "Why are we clinging to a dying monetary system that serves no purpose" or "Why do people starve to death on a daily basis when there's no need for it" or "What's causing the current global environmental changes" or "Why does religion have such an improperly powerful position in society" or "Why do people raising valid question get modded as trolls".

Valve figured out how to roll out DRM so people will want it, and people do. Valve has monopolized a market and is still expanding. Steam is how digital goods should be distributed:
1/ Create a distribution platform that makes everything easy, reliable and fast
2/ Get good content onto the platform
    3/ Undercut everyone else's prices by ~50-80%
I don't really think luck comes into it too much. With 1 good digital product, you can make unlimited money. It's just a question of distributing the product and collecting the money.

The facts here are that copyright law is so broken that hundreds of thousands of frivolous lawsuits could make it to court in the first place. It's not a matter of finding the right way to prosecute or defend copyright claims, it's a matter of working around the broken copyright laws to completely shutdown the monopolistic business practices of these abusive power brokers.

When the law becomes ridiculous, don't argue about frivolities, undermine it. Arguing against it in a court just serves the ridiculous law because it instills it with your own belief.

  19. Re:WTF... on Illinois Politician Wants a Kill Switch For Anonymous Speech Online · · Score: 2

How are all these treasonous socipaths getting elected anyway?

It all starts with rigging elections. A wealthy corporate or private entity 'sponsors' a candidate to run for office. They foot the bill for all advertising and write the policies which the candidate stands on. They pay for the candidate's appearance to be changed and have personal advisors following the candidate around making sure that every single thing which comes out of the candidate's mouth is monitored and accounted for.

If the candidate happens to slip up, a carefully worded clarification or apology is written by the advisor(s). Generally you'll find that most elections have more than one candidate of this nature. The entities sponsoring the candidates run secret fund raising drives with other like minded wealthy people / businesses to assist in the funding of the candidate's campaign.

Sociopaths are perfect as political leaders because they have no problem with outright lying, manipulating people to meet their sponsors agenda and generally doing whatever is required to get elected. Also, they're wonderful as people whom can be easily manipulated by the wealthy. Sociopaths often have secret hobbies that would make the average person's skin crawl (paedophilia, sadomasochism, sexual sadism) and therefore their addictions are easily fed and they tow the line in order to keep their hobbies out of the public eye.

The result is that the only choice for elections are often only the candidates running on behalf of these wealthy individuals / corporations. Hence, voter turnout is quite irrelevant. The sponsor(s) of the candidate can then get their own laws passed without credence to the rights of individuals and without concern as to the ramifications of the law.

We've got touch sensitive screens, we've got motion sensitive controllers, accelerometers, built in cameras, mics, optical recognition software etc etc. And Sony's latest innovation is .. a mouse pad nobody will use. Sony is scared to change and adapt to a market which has long since left without them. And now, the PS4 will be like concrete in Sony's boots. They've committed to it, so it's going to have to stick around for at least 5 years.

Seriously, if you want to get people to buy devices you really need to come up with something new and innovative. The PS4 is just a PS3 with a not quite so screwed up system architecture. It's what the PS3 should have been .. but 10 years late. There's nothing here but a simple home gaming platform with a slightly more clever collection of network collaboration tools.

Watching Sony sink slowly under the waves is a sad state of affairs for a company that should have long since been shocked into action. It's time to call it how it is. Sony is looking forward to a long series of ~6 billion losses.
