    one thing you need to consider about apple is they basically reinvented the world with the iOS. Literally, the entire world sees stuff differently than they used to. who else can say that?

    I don't think you understand what the first amendment is. It prevents the govt from controlling speech of its citizens. your comment says that govt can silence corpoarations because the first amenment doesn't apply, and that this is a pity. Is this what you meant to say?

    well I don't think the answer is to force someone to use a secure platform like an ipad. what if they need to run a PC program or use flash? they're your guests, after all, maybe you should cater to them a bit. although people do love ipads.

    We've thought about buying an iPad for guests to use, but decided it wasn't right to knowingly let others use a computing platform that may have been compromised.

    -1 flamebait. what computing platforms haven't been compromised? and if you listed the severity/number/degree/frequency of compromises among computing platforms, iOS would float to/near the top.

    Wow, harsh much? It appears I have different opinions than you. Skoll! The ticket to a healthy conversation. But some people (such as yourself?) use their mod points so they down vote any opinions they disagree with, resulting in a slashdot monoculture with no dissenting. Voices. N thank you,mi say! I'mm always ready to speak truth to power. As to your shill accusations, yes, I abandoned earlier accounts because of bad karma. I'm not a MS fanboi, although they've been doing a lot of stuff right lately (win7, office2010, bing). I definitely have some concerns about goog's worldview, but before you call me a hater please consider my arguments more carefully.

    umm, hello, the whole point of this article and discussion is that Goog will have control over technology so ubiquitous it could capture everything about you. That is the single set of hands.

    That they pretty much haven't 'done evil' with it so far is to my ken likely singular in history of business

    fined $22.5 million for hacking safari privacy controls
    $7 million fine for street view
    $500m fine for rip off pharmacy ads

    for a company that you suggest hasn't "done evil", they sure have been censured by government bodies for a lot of evil stuff. Not to mention all the stuff that the agencies haven't fined.

    i will always argue against the metrication of america. it's the ultimate 1%r approach - it's good for the select few, and we are the cream of the crop, so make everybody else do it. Also, celsius is a joke. how does that help in calculations, outside of the science lab?

    All of US measures land in acres. so if you're going to do a calculation using metric, you would need to convert acres to square meters, do the calculation, then convert back to acres. That makes no sense and introduces loads of error possiblities.

    for 95% of America, the metric issue has no impact. why force them to change when there's no benefit? In the US, the government doesn't try to force people like that. Maybe it's a EU thing...

    talk to me when the time system is metric. Most conversions I do are time based, and so it doesn't matter if its metric or us customary, i need a calculator. 100km/hr -> m/s. Go!
