    here's the deal, citations or gtfo. 90% of unsourced "facts" on /. are garbage, and I have no interest in wasting my time on other people's garbage. Not i'm not the GGP either, and I didn't ask for the citation myself. but i cants stand the GP argument (which is you) that I waste my time on your nonsense. tldr: citations or gtfo.

    dude, Jobs MADE usb into the standard it is. before the iMac (the bondi blue one) usb was a buggy joke, and everybody was using floppy disks and serial ports. the imac was the first time that usb worked well and was required, and the market went boom. you're welcome.

    firewire is dead. long live thunderbolt! srsly tho, i think the thunderbolt breakout boxes are pretty cool. like on the apple monitor, there's one cable to the thunderbolt, but you get like a half dozen ports on the monitor including usb and firewire, also, sound and webcam! that's pretty sweet no?

    Why don't they put their heads together and get the voice-activated commands working properly. I have not yet been able to get my new Android phone to follow any of my voice commands. It does something, but never what I ask for

    Siri works well for me. I can get maps, movie tickets, transcribe emails and SMS... but that's iOS-only so I'm not sure what would work for you :(

    I used to read yahoo news a lot, but got turned off by the comments. Truly nasty base comments. also, the "contributors network", which is just bloggers, would get some clickbait article to rise into the top ten column on the left "10 reasons why Sarah Palin will/won't be our next president." Lastly is the blurred line between journalism, bloggism, and just promotionalism.

    now I read NYT for a bit at the beginning of the month before hitting the paywall, then google reader.

    Do you have a right to use your cellphone everywhere you wish?

    obv not, because on private property the owners can tell you not to do it. But in the US you have the legal expectation to be able to use your cell phone without the signal being actively blocked, because this is illegal.

    Never heard of the duracell bunny, so I guess it's a US/EU thing. this is one of the biggest dichotomies on slashdot, not apple/google/MS. Speaking of dichotomies, US Customary Units 4evah!

    Can you find the center of the brain responsible for youtube comments and create a drug that turns that off? The internet will pay you. The internet will pay you a lot.

    I use the ShutUp plug in for Safari, but there are ones for other browsers too. It hides comments on any page in an intelligent way. I started using it because of the horrible Yahoo News comments, but it will work for Youtube too. you can activate it with a white list, so slashdot comments are ok, although maybe we'd be better off without those too. as they say, easier to put on blinders than to change the world. http://stevenf.com/shutup-css.     what's the issue here? apple finds that a comic book issue doesn't meet its content guidelines, so stops sale of it. seems cut and dry. is the issue the supposition that the comic wouldn't have been removed if it weren't for the gay stuff? this may or may not be, but it's all just talk.

    there was a rumor today that Apple is going to release an update to the Mac Pro this month. But imho the mac pro is obsolete and has been replaced by a macbook with a thunderbolt port. This covers all the I/Os that you would normally need a big rig for. the only exception I can think of is upgrading the graphics card down the line. But I don't know enough about the state of the graphics card industry to say if the top-of-the-line discrete card in the macbook pro is not good enough for desktop uses.
