"So, why isn't the "event horizon" (a distance from the actual point of the hole) a sphere extending the same radius in all directions?"

    You replied:
"You can't "see" the event horizon. The event horizon is where light can no longer escape and by definition puts out no light. All you would see is a black hole in space -- hence the name "black hole." If you see something fall into a black hole, you would't see it actually hit the event horizon; it would merely keep falling in more and more slowly. In any case, the event horizon tends to be quite small. If you collapsed the Earth, for example, into a black hole, the event horizon would have a radius of just one inch. Only a supermassive black hole of millions or billions of solar masses (the kind you have at the center of big galaxies like the Milky Way) will have large event horizons."

But the question is still a good one if you forgive the incorrect phrase of "see".

Does a black hole exert it's force equally in all directions? I would imagine with such force that peturbations would be minor at best. If it is rotating, does the even horizon have an egg-like curvature as opposed to a beach-ball?

This is stuff I've never thought about but would sure like to know now that someone brought it up.

    * The Reagan administration strengthened the control of existing holders of television-station licenses by increasnig their term from three to five years, and its FCC made renewals essentially automatic. The FCC also greatly facilitated speculation and trading in television properties by a rule change reducing the required holding period before sale of a newly acquired property from three years to one year.
The reagan era FCC and Department of Justice also refused to challenge mergers and takeover bids that would signifaantly increase the concentration of power (GE-RCA) or media concentration (Capital Cities-ABC). Furthermore, beginning April 2, 1985, media owners could own as many as twelve televison stations, as long as their total audience didn't exceed 25 percent of the nation's televison households; and they could also hold twelve AM and twelve FM stations, as in the 1953 "7-7-7 rule" was replaced with a "12-12-12 rule." See Herbert H. Howard, "Group and Cross-Media Ownership of Televion Stations: 1985" (Washington: National Association of Broadcasters 1985).

I can say that you find some great stories though. I'll agree with the previous poster who said "anime is not afraid to take cultural and subject-matter related risks ". Some examples are Grave of the Fireflies (not nearly as jingoistic as dozens of American movies I can cite), Ghost in the Shell (cybernetics seems to be a taboo here in the states, it's always freakish instead of our evolution).

I agree to pay $1 to any artist listed in this service for any song I download and keep for a week. This means that if I downloaded 8 *great* songs - a mark that has only been hit a few times in a single album (IMHO, read; Crystal Method's "Vegas", Boston's "Boston" and Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms") then they'd make 8 bucks. Quite a bit more than they'd get from a label.
