The moderate, not-too-hot, not-too-sunny climate of the Seattle area is one of the best things about this part of the country! 90% of the year the temperature is between 50 and 75 (T-shirts and jeans weather). There are a few weeks when it gets insanely hot, and a couple more weeks when you really need that jacket. If you don't like it, go someplace where you'll be happier!
That's an easy bullshit answer. Try again with a bit more depth. Everyone is biased. Slashdot, ZDNet, CNN, BBC, MSNBC, your grandmother's sewing circle, Rush Limbaugh's radio show. Every source of information has some bias built in. No side of any issue believs that they are the unjust, the villains, the legions of evil. That would make things too neat and tidy.
I would not eat a Microsoft Burger...afraid of the occassional Blue S*** Of Death.
How about ActiveFurnature? According to the MS Marketdroids, it dynamically adjusts to provide maximum comfort. Sure, some people have complained about beeing strangled by their chairs, but such talk is "anecdotal".
MS Interstate Explorer - i'm imagining a nightmarish little micro-stationwagon that "conveniently" remembers how to drive to your house and unlock your front door - oh look, some script kiddy broke into your kar (by hitting ESC), drove to your house, and cleaned you out. Microsoft will fix that b^H^H^H^H^H^H modify that feature with the next service pack.
Release early, release only crap* is not tolerated in other industries. I don't want to have to deal with it in any software I use. That's why I hate MS (although, IMHO, the current DOJ case is unfounded).
*The actual line is "Release early, release often", but MS's idea of "often" is orders of magnitude slower than our reality.
Don't forget such notable items as: Xenix(way back when) WinCE Windows 3.x (definitely a different beast from Win1-3 Windows for Workgroups Are we counting WinNT Terminal Server as a different OS? Is the actual kernal different, or are the differences higher level?
Anybody want to draw um a nifty little "MS family tree" to properly identify all these monstrosities?
Would you trust a closed source program for this?

As soon as I get my degree, that is. Been living in Seattle (shadow of M$, Amazon, and StarBucks) for too long. At least I only worked for Starbucks, so I still have my soul.
Why is it a more "level" playing-field to tax internet sales more than other catalog sales (phone, mail-order)? Catalog sales seem to me to be a far better analogy to describe on-line sales than the "brick-and-mortar" system would be.
Sounds cool - anyplace in Canada have a good software industry? Iknow this is the great country that gave us OpenBSD and UserFriendly, but that's about all I know (been to Victoria, Whistler, and Calgary too, and I stil don't know)
A while ago a director of a Christian camp program (a small group of college-aged students attend this camp for nine months at a shot) asked me what I would recommend to ensure that "innapropriate" sites are not visited by the camp's computer (singular). I suggested he keep the campers from viewing innapropriate pages the same way he kept the campers from buying porn mags - teaching them why such things are discurraged and trusting people to make their own decision. It took a few hours of talking, but he eventually agreed that was the best course of action for people of this age group. One less facility using censorware is a good thing. An administrative type trusting in personal responsibility is a miricle that I have thanked God for, and hope to witness again in my life.
No, it would seem like forever to a hypothetical outside observer. A person cannot observe relativistic distortions of their own perception of time. Realtivistic distortion only applies when one frame of reference (something falling fast into a black hole) is observed by another (somebody not falling).
A wide-spread, highly configurable OS by programmers for programmers is a wonderful thing. We do not necessarily want a homogeneous linux environment, but linux rocks as a developer's platform. In a multi-platform non-homogeneous world I hope for in the not-too-distant future, linux could be THE development environment of choice, with environments (like wine) and cross-compilers to develop and debug for ALL those other platforms. I would love to reliably go through the entire development cycle of win32 programming without leaving linux. Beyond that, I would like to see the day when vendors do not even consider creating an OS without providing linux-based development tools for linux. This is the thing I like best about cross-platform solutions like Java or wxWindos, the ability to qrite apps for the other platforms without leaving my nice, power-user friendly, highly customized, unrestrictive environment.
Neat plot twist for final movie. Neo gets hooked on his God-lke powers, and decides that he doesn't want to end the Matrix, making him into a villain the humans have to fight in the end.
"Unless you are a cracker, "computer security" is rather boring (yes useful, necessary, but boring)" Actually, I find comp. security quite interesting. Then again, I'm one of those weirdos who likes studying things like the raw math behind crypto. I'm not a cracker, just a nerd/tweak/tinkerer/student/programmer with aspirations toward hackerdom.
Yes, and we are saying that the relationship between A and B is NOT equivelent to the relationship between C and D. You are understood. Others simply disagree.
You're absolutely right. I don't mind at all if you keep 3 tons of dynamite in your basement. None of my business, and I don't care. If you try to use that dynamite to blow up something that doesn't belong to you, on the other hand...

Just a thought...

I'd be glad to take the kids to see "Debbie Does Dallas" IFF the parents agree to it.
The new bill contains NO restrictions on domestic crypto. It only upholds bone-headed restrictions on export.
"It says any White House export decision cannot be challenged in court.."
IANAL, but isn't this clause blatantly unconstitutional?

What's wrong with a V-chip there? A little electric shock can be quite . . . pleasant.

Actually, by the time I saw the "Truth about Stability" post, it was scored at "1: Flamebait"
Janus also has preciesly 0 "back orifice"s. Perhaps MS means Janus to be a reasonably secure system?
MS Windows is THE most commonly used OS.

Yes, the prices would fall. About as much as the price of CD's has fallen.
