Now, go away to www.blender3d.com and read that page... and then come back and continue to read.
Yes, Blender is closed sourced, but it will be GPLed or get a similar license, with all old and new development released, hopefully this will happen soon, I long for a new dose of blender...
For those looking for a pov-modeler take a look at truevision seems pretty nice, and probably need a bunch more testing by all of you, so give him/them good bug-reports and feature requests now:)
"Love windows" is quite a bit of an overstatement, but it has become much more managable than it was before, I know several people who really hate windows and JAWS.
A (graphical) GUI doesn't add anything of value (at least not much) for a blind user, while textbased GUI can do that.
Console based applications are by far much easier to use and navigate with a braille display than graphical apps are.
I can add 2, Anne McCaffrey and Sheri S. Tepper, both very good authors, Tepper is the one less likely to be read, but McCaffrey's stories about the dragonriders of Pern are just wonderful, and so are all other of her book that I have read, very good, and focusing more on characters than technology.
Now on the men...
I didn't see Kim Stanley Robinson mentioned (the colorful Mars trilogy).
and now on to the ones that should be read, but it's not as likely:(,
Peter Hamilton, the reality dysfunction
Julian May, the next Douglas Adams?
Harry Turtledoves alternate history books
I seem to recall that region 0 is the region that should be possible to play by all players, so if they get region 0 DVDs they should be able to play them on any player, legally.
how large would a foot with shoesize 6 be? probably alot smaller than that monolith, and probably possible to pull out of your butt (not that I intend to try, or want to see anyone do it...;).
The major reason for GIMP not to include the standard ways to get printable images, is that they are patanted (or has similar restrictions), and that makes it impossible to incorporate them without paying huge $:ars. But hopefully those patents/whatever will expire soon and we get all those nice colorformats and get to send out images directly to the presses.

they are called braille displays, and are usually 40 or 80 characters wide.
Some come with builtin speech too.
