how the fsck is this so gawddamned hard for Nokia or SonyEricsson to understand?
The 8390 still goes for over $200 on eBay! T68i's with 10 times the features go for under $40.
I've never seen an industry NOT sell something so many people wanted in my whole life.
there is a two tier Mac OS X server licenseing structure...
little guy - 10 clients - $500 everyone above that - limited only by performance - $1000
the drop-dead MSCE-simple admin tools of Mac OS X Server more than justify the $1000 difference in price vs Linux if you're going to be running these things by yourself, and you have a real job on top of it.
sorry, but i've not kept up on the HL2 code theft story...
but can anyone fill us in on why he's not guilty of backing into the servers and stealing the code?
I'm just asking - i'm sure there's a logical explanation of why - not being a smart ass.
fwiw - while i work with many govt agencies in the classified world, i generally assume the FBI is a bunch of fsck-ups and morons.. like most of us do.
or
is there some possibility that he is guilty, even tho the warrants are technically lame (internal IP addresses?)
Tog is back, and is so bitchy, he's ready for Straight eye right now....
He liked the Application menu from 9 - i have to admit that i don't even use the Dock for application switching - all i use it for is launching apps.
But for application switching - its called Command-Tab - and not only does each press of Tab (what a beuatiful drink) give you the next app - you can even interact with it using your mouse! You can even quit whatever app is highlighted when hitting command-tab by hitting - horrors - Command-Q! Put that in your ASM and smoke it, Toggy.
Tog is right about some things, but holy shit...80% of the time, he just comes off as whiny and stupid because its obvious he doesn't know what he's talking about sometimes.
I mean - this guy has his own cult following (of which a close friend of mine is a follower) - yet he's so obviously Koresh and not the real King David at all.
For example - his rant on iPhoto? Where the hell did this come from?
iPhoto does what no photo organization app before it ever did - iPhoto makes photo organization EASY! That should be a big "holy shit, that's amazing!", because even after it being out for almost 2 years, NO ONE has made anything near as nice and easy to use as iPhoto.
HOW it does it - well, to be honest, i can't believe they could do it without a database. That Apple pulled it off with Finder-based organization is really impressive. All the other apps that "manage" pictures suck - as he obviously admits when he says something so SCO as "I'm sticking with Canon ImageBrowser. It's not as nice, but ImageBrowser is a view onto the Finder"
That's like bitching about how Keynote uses XML instead of HTML for its file format...
Note to Tog - the reason Canon's software is not as nice is because it DOESN'T ORGANIZE you're fscking pictures, numbnuts! That's what iPhoto does!
Exporting your photos and "losing all organization"? What the hell does that even mean? What app are you going to take 20,000 pictures to that organizes them better for you? And if you want to export 500 pictures into a folder - you can do that in iPhoto without any issue at all.
What makes all other photo "orginization apps" suck is that they don't do anything to help you organize your pictures... they depend on plain old folders... and so, any organization you want, you have to do manually.
And that's why all of us who had thousands of pictures HATED about Finder folder organization.. WE had to organize our pictures - instead of the software.
In his braindead rant, Tog uses the word "proprietary", but he uses it to stir emotion, not because its acurate... The organization of folders in iPhoto is not "proprietary" at all - its very obvious HOW it works whe you look around at it - and its not closed in any way. He knows that the word "proprietary" will get Mac users' panties in a bunch, though.
Hey Tog - you bitchy tit - i'll put 500 of your photos and Canon imagebrowser against 10,000 of my photos in iPhoto 04, and i'll race your whiny ass on ANY photo organization task you want. And i'll kick your ass EVERY TIME.
Just stick to Fitts' Law and crying about the dock, and your followers will always love you.
there are still only less than 5 (how many are there now after the recent buyouts?) companies that own the vast vast majority of music copyrights and all sell their music for the smae prices?
what part of anti-competitive collusionary tactics between a handful of companies to Standard Oil themselves in charge of a whiole industry am i missing that made the DOJ drop it?
face it - the DOJ is useless to stop subtle and patently obvious monopolies. So be it.
We are bigger than they are... we're crushing them with Linux, and we can crush them by not buying CDs any more.
no problem. We are in charge.. they can't sue all of us.

That's the beauty of the BSD license - or the curse (ESR the All-Knowing, ESR the All-Compassionate) of it.
Now - ALL that said... SCO's arguement is just silly...
I went to my source code, put in the BSD license (above) into each of the files listed in their header. I'm now in compliance!
a. Its "Apple Computer, Inc." - not Apple. They don't have a trademark on the word "apple".
b. "Macintosh" (what they used to call their computers) WAS unique... the fruit is the McIntosh apple.... it was purposefully spelled "Macintosh" for many reasons... - the obvious play on the non-trademarked familiar item (McIntosh Apple, "Americas favorite apple"), Mac is a friendly word all on its own
(fwiw: it doesn't appear that their computers are even called "Macintoshes" properly any more.
There are but a tiny handful of reference to "Power Macintosh G5" at apple.com (google turns up a lot of false positives...that is to say, google for "Power Macintosh G5" - then go to the pages found and do a text search for "Power Macintosh G5". I'm finding most of the google hits are false... weird). From all appearances, the new machines are officially called "Power Mac G5" and the handful of references to "Power Macintosh G5" seem to be typos.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, please.)
It IS silly that Microsoft gets to trademark the word "windows". Its a common word - to follow that logic, i could trademark "telephones" and screw the whole planet form using that word without bowing before me.
"Microsoft Windows" should be the only reasonable trademark they should be allowed to get...
If this mythical beast is not located in the Control panels where mere mortals live - wherefore art those average users who could find it?
(after 3 minutes of looking around, and because i (conned) the guys at work to give me Admin privs on this machine (99% users here do not) - i found the gizmo under the Administrative Tools applications folder under the start menu.. AFTER i "turned on" that folder in my start menu - for clarity)
if that's "easy to use, checkbox for all services" i'm Paris Hilton.
there are also incredibly FEW network services turned on (come on, someone spoofing your DHCP server on YOUR network and inserting malicious code? You've got bigger problems, my friend, than your vulernable Mac) out of the box when you install a Mac.
This in and of itself is another 50 pounds of "bite my shiny metal ass, Micro Soft apologist" to hand to the author of this article (i RTFA as well - he carped on a LONG time about this one quite obscure vulnerability, and didn't bother to name a single Mac virus or mail.app worm.. i wonder why?)
Until Microsoft changes their ways on having every useless network service turned on by defualt and making it easy (read: not requireing use of Regedit) to turn off and on services (read: Sharing System Preference Panel - checkboxes for all services), Macs will continue to be far less vulnerable to attacks than Windows is.
went RIGHT over my house.. according to the map (I live right above the "B" in Buena Park on that map right where the base station markers are) The city covered up by the markers on the map is called La Mirada.. my home.
He didn't see my open base station. So i'm not nuts.. my base station really DOES have bad RF performance.. maybe i should get it checked out.
(yeah (as a matter of fact) - i don't care if people use my base station, as a matter of fact. Mine is open. In fact, if you request an IP, the DHCP server on my Airport EXTREME (tm) base station will GIVE you an IP. You can't steal from me - i'm giving it to you.)
I win the bet, because Microsoft has already indicated what they're going to do. Go nuclear... and use patents to squash the furtherance of the useful and scientific arts.
Microsoft has already informed everyone that, for now, if their software works with their patented Office 2003 XML schema, all they have to do is simply note it.
But there is nothing legally stopping them from charging an infinite amount of money or outright forbidding compatibility between MS Office files and non-Microsoft software.
the people here are mostly upset with the legislature - they are exclusively Democrat party, with a handful of Republican seats. The Democrat legislature seats which are Democrat held will NEVER be unseated in my lifetime, and they well know that.
That has created the absense of the everyday normal Democrat from being represented in California's legislature... it is now full of actual, real life Socialists and Communists - and i'm not using hyperbole....they actually are Socialists.
They are actively fighting a spending cap in the state. They have actively sought out people to put onto welfare rolls.
All this because they know that they can never be unseated. They have no accountability, and they know that there will never be Republicans that can take over their seats.
The governor is just a figurehead here in the state. That's why its irrelevant to that a action movie actor is now governor - nothing is actually going to change because the legislature writes the laws.
The only thing we hope for here is that not all of them pass by 2/3rds, so he can veto much of what they send to him.
California is only 6 seats in the house, and 2 in the state senate from going 2/3rds Democrat, and able to make the position of governor ACTUALLY null and void... right now, he still has veto power.
AT&T has 100% no relationship with AT&T Wireless. At one time, they did, but in thier split from AT&T, they were able to (somehow) retain the AT&T part of their name.
i worked for AT&T last year.. most people there had Verizon cell phones.. i had T-Mobile. This is because we got no discounts on AT&T Wireless stuff.
holy shit.
So, if you go to aim.com - you see that the latest version is 5.2
If you go to the download section, you see that its 5.5.
dude, what the fsck is wrong with AOL that they can't make a webpage with decent information?
I just went to aim.com - to betas for Windows and got this message..
"AIM 5.5 Beta for Windows
There is no Beta version currently available. Please check back soon"
apparently, Apple just got the hose job from AOL. They shouldn't have announced this until they saw that AOL had their shit together.

No, you do not need to purchase a SCO IP license to run BSD.
