If this trend continues eventually we won't own anything at all. That would infringe on our self-evident rights to life, liberty and property... no wait... let's pursue *happiness* instead, who needs to own anything?;-) (Pursuit does not equal attainment)
I think the Fast User switching animation is a great help to non-techie users... gramma SEES where her desktop went, it's "Back there now" behind the other screen. No more imaginary esoteric "It's still there you just can't SEE it while I'm using the computer, nono, your programs are still running, they're invisible now". Ehhhh... just show their desktop being slid into the background and there's no confusion as to what just happened.
My verdict... it's educational in a sense for end-users, and not bad to look at for us. Of course it along with Expose gives Mac users something to show their PC friends to no end until Windoze LongInTheTooth 2006 comes out.;-)
This is unfortunately not true, songs are only downloadable ONCE. You must keep your own backups, any loss of the original file means repurchasing.

I lost... $0.99 worth of music when I wiped out my external Music partition... (Pointed bochs at the wrong partition trying to boot off a CD, D'OH!) but... Apple lost a lot more than $0.99.:-D
Let's see here, I'd tell myself to pay more attention to school and not be so lazy, so that in the future I wouldn't have to relearn everything when I start being interested in this stuff... buuuut... like the Monk said I wouldn't listen to THAT so... hmmmm...
I think "Stop being an ass, make people feel good when they talk to you" might have an effect on me, took me long enough to figure it out!:o)
I think the real reason is not so much to avoid the jury being "tainted" by rumors, but evidence that is deemed inadmissible to the court. For example in the O.J. Simpson trial the general public knew a lot of things that the jury did not, and afterwards after being told what was not shown in court several of them were shocked and said they would not have felt the way they did had they known more.
The legal system is based on a sort of social Darwinism that basically preaches blindly following the law will eventually lead to better laws through reform. So if then certain evidence was not shown to a jury for legal reasons which allowed a guilty person to run free, then the theory holds that a few extra deaths is in the long run worth it for the refinement it indirectly brings to the legal system.
Love it or hate it that's the way it is. Personally I hate it.
Buy a Handera 330... CompactFlash and SD/MMC cards, built in microphone, save directly do them, export in.WAV format to your PC, do what u want with em... one button record, just hold down the record button and it turns on and starts up, no prob, works great. =)
Video-confrencing software that allows decent frame-rates over a dial-up so we could finally have our vid-phones... I'm not sure how fast it would have to be as far as fps go... but certainly better than say... Netmeeting does. (Sign Language is no good using Netmeeting on a dialup, I'm sure you've all seen the "I cooked your dog for you" commercial)
We've got some basic Winmodem drivers... how about someone making a TTY/TDD program? Simple tones, wouldn't be much more complicated than playing DTMF signals back and forth.
Voice-recognition would be nice... and text-to speech... forget using a relay service and having to share our secrets with a stranger in the middle... how about converting our typed speech to voice... play it over the winmodem... get the speech back, and type it for us? Or voice-recognition libraries which would plug into things like video-players and audio-players? You don't know HOW annoying it is to miss out on webcasts and online discussions because nobody includes captions or transcripts on their websites.
You all want your video-phones? Start by selling them to the deaf... hook up colleges with large groups of deaf in them to each other so they can collaberate, as it spreads it'll gain momentum and then the hearing will want them too... from campus networks to the home... once the infrastructure is there and they have people to call they'll want one at home. Nobody wants to be the first to buy one. =) Of course this is a perfect use of IP6, each phone having it's own permanent address... so we'd need a universal addressbook format to beam our vidnums to each other... I hereby select the Palm Platform as the standard PDA!;-) (There, I've finished my ranting with some raveing it's all balanced now =)
So you're saying that all the other times the Egyptians were intelligent enough to know not to drive a chariot into a swamp... however on THIS occasion they decide to charge into one and and drown in a few feet of water.
Forget the fact that as I have already shown it was indeed the "Red Sea" being spoken of. Oh and besides that the Israelites with their children and older ones must've had carts and caravans, etc... much heavier than a chariot... yet, they must've somehow been able to get through the same swamp a more nimble army couldn't.
Let's not forget this was an entire nation of people crossing this area... over a "dry ground", they must've lied... just like anything else you aren't able to easily explain away as a random occurance of nature.
Actually, it's not a typo at all.
The literal Hebrew is "Sea of Reeds", which has caused certain Bible scholars to to argue that the Israelites had merely crossed a swampy region and not the actual Red Sea.
However the amount of water must have been sufficient to cover the Egyptian military... impossible in a mere swamp.
Also Acts 7:36 and Hebrews 11:29 when refering to the same incident use the Greek expression erythra' tha'lassa, meaning "Red Sea".
In fact Herodotus used the same Greek expression to refer to the Indian Ocean which contains the Red Sea.
For more info on usage of "Red Sea" in the OT, check out Jeremiah 49:21 and 1 Kings 9:26... and check out where Edomite territory was known to be at that time. It's quite clear that "Sea of Reeds" was the Hebrew term in use for that region at the time.
It DOES??:) Dang barleyguy... looks like you've had enough of the wicked brew for today, then again, that's WHY you're barleyguy isn't it?;)
-Don.
Actually the way I made sense of the 42 thing is using the biblical symbolism for 7 and 6... 7 meaning perfection and 6 meaning falling short of perfection (or sin)... so 6 x 7 would be some sort of chaotic mix of good and evil or something. I know it's all wrong and I'm just being a dork but it is kinda interesting.:)
The biggest gripe I had with the Matrix is that Neo and Morpheus fought for the first time BEFORE Neo knew that he could really die. And also he starts moving pretty fast and is about to flatten Morpheus' face but pauses right before punching him. Also morpheus came flying down about 20 feet doing a knee drop on Neo who barely moved in time to avoid definately being killed... all this BEFORE Neo knew! If it was real Morpheus would explain that to him FIRST just incase Neo happened to kick his butt right off. Also how come Morpheus said they don't know exactly what year it is? Let's think about this, Zion was a city underground where people who were free of the Matrix lived right? It had to have been built by people who were around during the resistance against the machines, there's no way a few people who somehow slipped out of the matrix could have built that city. Ok, so nobody down there had a watch or bothered to keep time? A calendar? There must be plenty of people down there, they have enough technology to repair the Nebuchadnezzar, and other scout ships like that, they must have energy or some sort of fuel to run the ships. Why do the Agents need the code to get into Zion? If they have some electronic way of entering a code to get into the city or it's mainframe or whatever, then why don't they just dig up the wires and follow it back to the city and just drill their way into Zion? I particularly like the idea someone posted about Neo being an Agent and not aware of it, and that the "real world" was really another layer added onto the matrix. That explains how Neo could really dodge bullets and move as fast as an Agent, and also explains WHY they can "bend the rules" in a VR simulation. Obviously the whole IDEA of the Matrix was implanted inside the actual matrix to keep really enlighted people from figuring out what's really going on. So those who figured it out for some reason could escape from the matrix into the "real world" where they would find a more rigid and strict physics program that would force them to conform to "reality". (Which is what we live in;) It would also explain my arguments against the fact that the machines were not able to destroy Zion, since the REAL matrix lets people think they're outside the matrix so they'll stop there and never discover the real one. So they think they're free, and that's as far as they go. Very good, very good.:) But Morpheus STILL should've warned Neo about death before he sparred with him.;)
I had one just like that when I was a kid... pissed me off actually. I was in the park by my elementary school, had to piss real bad, so I ran to the bathroom, when to a stall, and releaved myself... and I'm sitting there whistling or something when I realized it was a dream, I woke up still whizzing.:) Then about a week later I had the same dream but this time just when I got to the stall I realized it was a dream and woke up.:)
Sheeesh! I manually decoded that one by substitution before I figured out it was just ROT13'd!!:) Doh!

Another thought I got though... if someone goes out and patents ROT13, could they get an injunction against people without first going through all the "fair use" stuff at the Patent Office? It seems they could, if the patent was previously filed and the judge didn't use common sense on it.
For removing OpenGL support from W2K.
