Isn't it more like beta state than in a release state?
- documentation -> sparse (got tags, with no explaination)
- decoder, unlike for vp8, no libav/ffmpeg support for vp9 atm.
- slow (no multithreading at all atm. but a nice '--threads ' option
- mkv support not finalized

If not better use XP in a VM (VMs don't need Linux installed; still got a Win2k Image I sometimes start up to play some old games)
still with a. more people getting online b. the percentage of infested computers not really falling and c. the average connection speed growing, isn't a grow in DDOS bandwidth something that was predictable?
use some of those huge C++/HTML/... books that are probably lying around somewhere in a corner,...
(if they are lying on the ground you will probably need something new to put your feed on, but that's another story,..)
