So what is and not obscure? ADA? It is used in all the latest Boeing airliners but not used a lot outside of the aerospace community. What about Lisp? Or Haskell? What about Comal, Action! and Promal? Now those are obscure. Pascal,Modual, Oberon? Or the RPG family? REXX? Some are truly obscure or just not used anymore and some are very common in a specific domain. For instance I have never needed to use Lua but I know it is used in a lot of places.
For me it is already simple. I have a wife and a circle of friends. 1. I would give all friends children Florida pre paid college funds. 2. Set up scholarships. 3. Maybe start a college. The issue is to weed out those that are in search of a trough.
The cost of changing all the documents and textbooks that reference that mountain. If the folks in Alaska want to call it chicken pot pie that is fine with me. This is useless and does nothing to make the world a better place.
As long as President Obama is will to pay the 300 million dollars or so to replace every textbook and reference book that says the highest mountain in the US is Mount McKiney out of his own pocket I am fine with it.
Funny but a friend of mine called the Apple II a toy but then he had a PDP-11. Actually the AppleII was a better computer than the Vic-20 but it also cost many times as much. Frankly I loved all the computers of the late 70s early 80s. So many new ideas and so many systems and all of them you could learn inside and out except for the Ti-99.
That is just for the parts. The IT department should have people on staff to do the actual install and copy the data over. If the software is not really brain dead then they should just point the data directory to a NAS or SAN drive.

Actually yes from 1945 to about 1962-3 the US could have won in a nuclear war. Russia lacked any real way to deliver nuclear bombs effectively to the US. Now Europe, Japan, and Korea would have been toast but the US would not have been that badly damaged. Yes we could have won that in about the same way that France won WWI or Britain won WWII

The R-7 ICBM took days to fire and was not a practical weapon system but it did scare the daylights out of the US. The most dangerous weapon system was probably the strategic nuclear torpedos the USSR developed. Those could have done a lot of damage to coastal cities in the US. The Death toll would have been huge but the US would have come out ahead and would have "won". MAD is what came after that period when the US decided it was too costly to win a nuclear war with the USSR starting around the late 1960s.
