If you love those programs and can code then for goodness sake contribute. Maybe you could find enough Abiword users to do a gofundme and pay someone to work on the Windows version. AbiWord is a good project and I hate to see it starve for developers. I am thinking about doing some work on joe myself.

YouTube is still subsidizing your content they are paying the cost of hosting it and bandwidth.

Go to Vimeo or host the content on your own website. You no more have a right to demand that YouTube run ads on your content then you have a right to force NBC to run your show.

Google is sort of doing that now. Incase you have not read more and more new features are being rolled into Google Play services and the Google Now Launcher. Google controls the version of those two systems with the Google Play Store. It is not prefect but it is better than it was.
Yes you have a lot of different ARM chips but the instruction sets are not very different. Most Android devices use a Cortex A series SOC the wifi and cell radios are also limited in number. The big differences are going to be things like the display and camera. Some manufactures will add things like a custom sound system as well to try and make their device standout. The other issue is their custom skins which is probably a huge time sink.
IMHO if Google really wanted to push this they would have kept Motorola. The first fruits of Google running Motorola the MotoX and Moto G where/are really good phones. If Google had kept producing good phones with constant updates then other companies would have had to compete with that.
Actually I did get the upgrade with my Sprint Galaxy Nexus. The Verizon and Sprint phones used the same SOC BTW but Verizon never allowed an update. The Sprint CDMA version did not get as many updates as the GSM version but it did get more than the same phone on Verizon.

What ships is usually good enough and works. As far as being customizable if I can pick a desktop image and a few other options I am good. Then X86/64 and Linux became a great home for Java. Java on the desktop is still around but Java for everything never took off. In a way the browser based apps we see now are exactly what Sun was suggesting back in the day and Microsoft feared.
Carriers are not going to keep power of the OS for much longer. Apple does not give carriers control and more and more people are going contract free and buying a phone. When a user buys the phone they become the customer and not the carrier. Unified does not have to be any more closed then a desktop OS is.

It is using LCH4 which is a lot less dense than the RP-1 that the Falcon 9 and Saturn V use/used. The tanks are bigger but the fuel is lighter.

The only reason that Abiword is not having any windows releases is the lack of windows developers. Learn to code and help out. It is Opensource.
