I agree. I own a mbp, that runs Windows 8. I went to a local JS developer conference where there at least 150 attendees, everybody but one other person had an apple products. A couple of the guys sitting next to me asked me why I was running M$. I listed off my reasons, and they just said 'oh'. =D

I've been using computers for about 3 decades - and while there have been mistakes made when the 3 major OS developers push UI/UX changes, I have to at least give props to MS and the Linux community for continuing to make changes. OSX has pretty much been the same since it first came out several years ago. So much for innovation. The only complaints I've heard about Windows 8 is the Metro interface - and it is terrible for desktop power users and developers. It can be turned off - and it's not that difficult to work around.

It's actually starting to show its age. I've recently switched back to windows 8 (with classic shell) and will probably never give OSX the time of day again. The fact that I have to go back to the main screen to do anything with the menu bar, task bar, and a file manager that hasn't changed in 15 years started driving me insane. There were some other quirks as well - like the END key doing something completely different in every single application I used that drove me to switch. In any case, I tried it, for a few years actually. I'm not trolling, I just think that Apple has dropped the ball with the OSX UI/UX - in favor of developing all their iGadgets.

The majority of developers have moved to CSS3 for eye candy - but you can't shuffle jquery, ajax, etc. to CSS - it's not going anywhere.

Also, why shouldn't we do validation in JavaScript? You know those nifty info boxes that slide open while you're filling in a form? That happened because JavaScript did validation on it, and it probably did it before firing off an AJAX request to see if that user name was actually taken (you know, instead of sending every single character you typed to the server). Ultimately all data should be validated by the server, because that's the sane thing to do - but there is no reason give that task to the server when JavaScript (your browser) can determine if it's valid or not.

  23. Re:It's a good start, but... on IE Standardization Fading Fast · · Score: 4, Insightful

no thanks. as a professional web developer I often have to let my clients know that to "do that fancy ajax stuff" I need to use JavaScript, and if they want to retain compatibility with non-JavaScript browsers then it will cost them significantly more for their project. i then show them how their favorite sites like amazon, ebay, etc. will simply refuse to work without JavaScript enabled and they opt to still use JavaScript but refuse to support non-JS browsers.

If you did any sort of serious web development you'd also know how time consuming it is to include support for no-script crap.

Yes, it can happen, and it should. If our democracy and constitution fails due to tyranny from the hands of our power hungry usurpers then we get what we deserve.
