First and formeost in my mind is Dave Cagley, my Drama teacher my senior year of high school. Dave, as we knew him, came into our lives when the previous Drama teacher contracted Lupis and had to leave. It was great because for the first time we were learning real acting and real theater and stuff that we could use in the real world. But not only that but he taught us about confidence and going into any situation in life with the outlook that you are going to win. When we were on stage he pushed us to win. To win the moment. That philosphy he urged us to carry into other parts of our lives. To win at what ever objective we were pursuing.
Then there was Fred Myers, my senior English teacher. He brought the beauty of the written word to life for us. He took a bunch of apathetic and ill-educated high school seniors and brought literature to life for us. Not only that but he urged us to see the lessons that these books could teach us. He also had us take a look at popular culture and to really examine what made us like the things we liked. It was fantastic.
Mike Mikulics, goverment teacher taught us that it is not only right but it is our duty to question our leadership.
Good teachers are hard to find but those that we do find need to be treasured and allowed the room to educate children as they see fit. The common thread amongst all of my most influential teachers is that they thought outside the box and weren't afraid to step outside the cirriculum if that meant educating us better.
After a study of this so-called report, it becomes increasingly obvious that this is just another of Hasselton's lies. Over 70% of the sites he reports to be blocked are not. Hasselton is the real problem here.
Oh please. This post really goes to show that all you lemmings who drool on everyword from the Slashdot crew really don't understand one damn thing about web filtering. Trust me I work in the industry and most of the info posted about web filtering software on this place is pure BS. This is just the worst case of yellow journalism I've seen in a while.
This'll be great. Now everytime Corel does something unpopular all of the idiots will be blaming it on MS's 4% ownership of Corel. Great fodder for all of the zealots out there.
Completely untrue and irresponsible. Plenty of filter software companies care a great deal about maintaining a list that blocks only porn or whatever else they block. If people do not research what they are buying then of course they will come across the bad ones (ie CyberPatrol). As for Peacefire. As usual outdated, one-sided, irresponsible information put out by a child who knows very little about what he's talking about.
Well gee that's a blind statement without any attention paid to the facts. Most filtering software companies do not act in such a dispicable fashion and in fact have very strict criteria about what is blockable and what is not. There are a few that politicize their blocking process (CyberPatrol is certainly the most infamous for this) but they are not the majority. I know this for a fact because I work for one such company and I can tell you our process for adding sites to our library is very meticulous and is constantly being improved to ensure that the sites we block do indeed fit the criteria. Our criteria likewise is very strict. I'm sick and tired of this BS pointed at filtering companies and products. It's just not true. CyberPatrol != All filtering software. Would you say that because RedHat distributes an Operating System that they are just like Microsoft? It's just not a fair comparrison.
Considering that the guy didn't mention the name Linus once in his post I would have to say that your post was just lame. Don't put words into other people's mouths.
Apple has completely railroaded the BeOS on G3 platforms. Apple is Microsoft and worse. The only thing that keeps them from getting sued is the size of their user base. If they had as many users as MS they would be in court now.

You're also forgetting that this is the beauty of Linux. You don't have to use this distro. There are several distros that tailor to the exact needs that you mention. You would never find this on any other platform. It's either all or nothing for them. With Linux it can be as easy as possible with as much eye-candy as can be handled, or it can be simple, non-intuitive but highly flexible and scalaable. That is what the future is....choice.
"frameset rows="" cols="151,*" That line of HTML will crash Netscape everytime. I for one have no problem admitting that Linux still has major issues that need to be fixed. However, the issues listed on Microsoft's website are for the most part carefully worded, marketing falsehoods. It's absolutely aggravating to read this stuff when they couldn't be further from the truth. But since it's on the website of a big corportation like Microsoft most people will tend to believe it. We have no recourse because we don't have a big corporation of our own. Our only way of getting our opinions out is to post here or to USENET. As for the test...you can't help but be suspicious of a group like Mindcraft that is so closely tied with Microsoft that MS even has the right to have their results withheld if they don't like them. It's right there in Mindcraft's contract. Basically the feeling is that no matter what as long as Mindcraft is involved there is no way for Linux to win. Even if in the test Linux beats NT no one will hear about it because the results will be withheld.
Katz misses the point, I think.

There is absolutely no basis to this claim. If you take the time and do the research on filtering/blocking software you can easily find a product that is legitimate and uses careful standards for blocking. X-STOP for instance is a very good one. Most modern filtering apps use very careful criterias for blocking. Despite what you might think it's not just a bunch of zealous Republican Christians sitting in a room deciding to block stuff because they don't like it. Believe it or not...most of the people in charge of creating these libraries are just like you and I.
Having had some experience with Caldera (the company that is) I would have to say that yes this is indicative of more Caldera whining. Caldera is a company that comes up with a lot of great software, but due to their totally wacked management and public relations they end up getting passed over by some other company. It happened with MicroSoft and they whined about it and then went into the Linux business. Now RedHat is beating them and they're whining again. It's not the first time and it won't be the last.
And just so you know the FBI warning was rescinded. Please check your facts before posting.

How is this union of church and state?

You're fooling yourself pal. The original trilogy works for adults but all in all they are movies meant to appeal mainly to children.

Try X-Stop. A lot like Bess but alot better at categorizing and don't overblock as much. www.xstop.com
It scares me to think that someone such as yourself has children.
