    Likewise, the automation is not designed to handle extreme failures of the aircraft.

    I beg to differ. Even though i'm unable to find it on the net i distinctly remember that after the crash of UA232 (total hydraulics failure) a system was developed (but not installed, as it was deemed too costly) that could land a DC-10 in those extreme circumstances.

  12. We're venturing deeply OT but this has to be said. WD "green" drives suck. I also made the HUGE mistake of buying one of their external 750GB drives: they have a FUCKING PROPRIETARY interface which is not SATA so i was screwed. Had to throw it all away cause there was nothing i could do besides some soldering mumbo jumbo which i never attempted in my life so...
    So fuck them, that's my take on this.

    Hydrogen gas is quite safe, if a tank is just punctured, it will remove itself harmlessly from the vicinity. If the tank is ruptured and the gas set on fire, you might set a tree overhang on fire, but the car will avoid most of the damage. Unlike gas that pools under the car in a manner perfect for human BBQ.
