Did you know there's an OS that doesn't force updates on you, does come with a software repository full of free software, and doesn't come with the Edge browser?
It's called Linux.
I believe that a chance for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness should be a universal human right.
I agree.
I just don't agree that you have a right to things at my expense just like I don't have a right to force you to pay for my house.
I'm not preventing you from living, nor from pursuing whatever you think makes you happy. I ask that you do the same for me.
I believe libertarians are selfish and wrong for denying their fellow humans the right to live.
Not interfering into someone else's affairs isn't denying them anything.
Otherwise you must accept that you're denying me a house by not buying one for me (or paying my mortgage).
But let's get down to brass tacks: how many dying people have you saved? How many people's insurance bill have you personally paid for?
Those are rhetorical questions, by the way, because there's no proof you could give on the internet of having done these things.
I love how greedy sociopaths try to philosophically justify what amounts to a big "fuck you" to the rest of society.
1. How is it greedy to want to keep what I earn?
2. How is it not greedy to want to force me to give what I have to you without my consent?
3. Considering how many millions died under communist and socialist governments in the previous century it's a bit rich for you to call someone espousing libertarianism a sociopath.
4. Calling me a sociopath is an ad hominem isn't it?
5. I don't bear any ill will toward the rest of society that isn't trying to rob me. So stop putting words in my mouth.
The USA put men on the moon multiple times, sent probes on escape velocity from the solar system, and now has probes and rovers around and on Mars.
Where are the soviets now?
Judging by how poorly communist countries have done and are currently doing I think I'll take my chances with our current "capitalist" setup. (And we're not a good model of capitalism at all).
...the decisions are still arbitrary and capricious. It will stay that way for a very long time.
Agreed. Law is nothing more than "everyone 'round these parts has agreed to work things out in a certain way 'cuz that's how we like it."
If law overlaps morality that is purely coincidental.
If law coincides with biology that is purely coincidental.
If law is Just then that is purely coincidental.
The job of law makers is to get law as close as possible to these ideals, but it's still just a matter of judgement.
But anyway, back to the subject: our brains grow and change in response to what we do with them. In this respect the brain is much like a muscle. If you work out habitually your muscles get big and strong. Your habitual thoughts and mental tasks have an effect on your brain.
This is why idiots are so obnoxious to be around-- they ruin everything.
This is why intelligent and thoughtful people are refreshing-- they make competence a habit.
Making your kids work hard in school and instilling discipline and focus into your children is the best thing you can do for them.
It's the difference between the honest rich and the habitually poor.
We should not reward those who make stupid decisions and thus ruin their lives and others'. (I'm arguing against communism here)
We should weed out those who make good and intelligent decisions by letting them bubble up to the top on their merits. (I'm arguing for libertarianism and free market ideals here)
Nice straw man.
Libertarians realize that everyone will die. Libertarians think that forcing someone else to prolong your life is selfish and wrong.
Look, I'm afraid of death, just like anyone else. But I agree that taking from someone else and inflicting damage on their life just to put off my own inevitable demise is selfish and wrong.
Work hard. Save money. Pay for the things that you want to pay for. Don't force someone else to pay for your stuff-- and that includes your medical treatment.
Deciding whether to sail and where to sail to is important.
If the ship doesn't sail or if it sails to a poor location at which the ship's company can't make money then why have the ship?
Thus the captain's job is very important and he should be paid according to the profit that his merchant ship makes.
The sailors are important as well-- they're the ones who literally sail the ship after all. But each individual sailor isn't critical-- there are many sailors who can all do the same job.
But there's only one captain and very few people who know all the intricacies of navigation, trade values, tides, trade winds, etc.
Don't be jealous because someone else makes more money than you. You sound like one of those feminists who got a degree in Women's Studies yet complains that there's a paucity of women in STEM. Why don't you go do what Tim Cook does?
Woz was a great engineer, but Apple doesn't make their name through great engineering.
Apple's products sell because they're sleek and stylish and handy and their competitors' products weren't.
That's why and how Jobs brought success to Apple in the midst of a crowded field.
Apple is losing revenue because the fad for their iconic industrial design is fading and also because their competitors are now putting out sleek and stylish designs of their own.
Bringing back Woz won't change that. Woz would probably be happy with a PiTop as his laptop. Apple's customers wouldn't.
Watch Milton Freidman's Freedom to Choose and/or read or watch anything by Thomas Sowell. They do a very good job of outlining the ways in which progressives/liberals/democrats have set up a system to "keep the poor down". That is not to say that they agree with Republican policies, though.
tl;dr of libertarian and free market capitalist thought: If you're waiting on someone else to give you money it won't happen without strings attached (vote for me or else) and almost always ends in things not going as you wanted them to. If you stand up on your hind legs and make a way for yourself then at least you'll be free.
tl;dr: RMS was right all along.
I think you missed the point. Or dodged it.
Which three Southern states?
Did you know there's an OS that doesn't force updates on you, does come with a software repository full of free software, and doesn't come with the Edge browser?
It's called Linux.
USE LINUX.
Choosing true software freedom is truly the only way to send a message to these people that you won't go along with their bullshit.
Do you mean "who you know" in the Biblical or Platonic sense?
Why does his graph start at 20k BC?
Why doesn't it go further back?
EVERYTHING means something else to marketing people than it does to educated folks.
FTFY
What's the matter? Can't handle the truth?
causalities
You keep using that word. I think you meant to use "casualties" instead.
Did you read TFS?
Did you notice that it's a lawyer who took time out of his day to rewrite Instagram's policy so that children could understand it?

How exactly do you think private insurance works?
Straw man.
I'm a thirty-something who is not overweight. I think private insurance is unwise.

Where are the soviets now?
Soviet Famine killed millions
Chinese famine killed millions
Venezuela's communist system is failing them now just like the USSR's system went belly up.
Communist Vietnam has almost no human rights
I could go on, but I think this is sufficient to disprove your bullshit.

Understood, but I think you also agree that if you gain a net couple of years of life then it's worth it.
Nice straw man.
Libertarians realize that everyone will die. Libertarians think that forcing someone else to prolong your life is selfish and wrong.

How do you quantify extroversion? Don't you need to be able to quantify extroversion before you can correlate it with brain matter density?
