Amazon.com was selling online internationally since at least Q3 1996.
Here is a quote from their 10-Q filling for that quarter (bolding added).
Net sales are composed of the selling price of books and other merchandise sold
by the Company, net of returns, as well as outbound shipping and handling charges. Growth in net sales reflects a significant increase in units sold due to the significant growth of the Company's customer base and repeat purchases from the Company's existing customers. International sales represented 26% and 35% of net sales for the quarters ended September 30, 1997 and 1996, respectively, and 27% and 36% of net sales for the nine months ended September 30, 1997 and 1996, respectively.
You have gone on the record stating that you want to undo the tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans (those making $200K or more), but have you thought about the effect it might have on small business owners? If they are the ones bearing the brunt of the risks and taxes don't you feel this will have a negative effect on the economy?
President Bush:
Do you feel that your tax cuts have shifted the burden of taxes onto the middle class? You have talked about making the tax code more fair and far more simple, do you have any more details or is this just camping promising that you don't intend to keep?
It's mostly about knowing your car, especially if you have a manual trany. Most of the modern day cars have 6-8 fuel injection ports, the higher your RPMs the more ports open, the more fule you use. When I car about the milage I get in my RX-8 (rated at 18/24), which is only on a long highway trip, I keep my RPMs just under 3500. Why? Because under 3500 RPMs the engine is only using 2 of 6 fuel injectors. Between 3500 and 6500 its using 4 and above 6500 it used all 6. When I'm watching it I can get close to 35 MPG. When I'm not watching it I get right around the EPA milage.
If you don't want to worry about it find out the RPM turm on/off points before you go test drive and see if the critical points fit in with your driving.
You can also buy after market chips that change when these ports open. They also give you a little selector panel inside your car and you can change from "high fuel economy" mode to "performance" mode.
I'll be able to visit newegg, get all the computer parts I want for free and then install my fav linux distro? I doubt it.
More then likely the hardware will only run the software when we pay or monthy dues (which they could raise over time, nothing like giving you a year for $99, then after all the data you can't live without is on there, pump the cost up to $99 a month).
No thanks. I'd rather pay a little bit of money and be free to do what I want with a computer then get a free computer and be told what I can do with it.
Isn't outsourcing just one facet to a many sided beast? There has been a trend in the US in recent years towards value as the consumer wants more and more for their dollar. This has given rise to discounters both on the web and in the form of Wal-Mart. Is shipping a job overseas all that much different from forcing a small retailer out of business with more labor efficient business model? It takes far fewer people to sell inventory at Wal-Mart then it would at a small retail store. If people are so up in arms about outsourcing and it taking away jobs should they not also be looking at their own behavior and how it may be effecting the labor market?
Kylix isn't all bad
on
Kylix in Limbo
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
I've actually done quite a bit of work with Kylix and for what I'm using it for it's wonderful.
I'm working on a MMPORPG, mostly working in Delphi and OpenGL, but the server runs on Linux. The complex data structure libary that represnes the Player's Data was written in Delphi and when moved over to Kylix to build the server it compiled without needed a single line of code.
I also used it to write a Apache Runtime Module so I could link the same data structure, account information, etc. inside Apache without needing to make Database calls in another language. Check it out for yourself @ www.vq-2.com
I've even have the OpenGL engine (not yet released) working just fine without requiring too many changes.
I'd hate to see Kylix go. Maybe they just need something high quality/profile written in Delphi ported via Kylix to show people the real power. Or, maybe they were hoping they could catch the "Linux on the Desktop" wave and make some quick cash on developers wanting to move aps to Linux.
A Microsoft spokesman says they have informed their OEM partners that it has become illegal to ship computers designed for home use without Microsoft Office. The company says it is responding to a report that says 95% of computers shipped without Microsoft Office on them end up having a pirated copy installed on them within 90 days.
Actually it's 1200! (assuming every piece can be rotated 4 different ways to form a unique "pixel") or 6.35078909 * 10^3175
