  1. Re:Better than .*? on SuSE Sales up Significantly · · Score: 1

    I haven't used Redhat for more than a year now since switching to SuSE. SuSE offers very good value for money. In the UK official SuSE retails for less than half the price of official Redhat. It comes with more CDs containing much more software than Redhat....saves a lot of time on downloading. Also I quite like using YAST to administer linux boxes....more so since it's non-graphical.

  2. ARM/StrongARM...are they related? on Psion Series 5mx released · · Score: 1

    Hi, just wanting to know. Is the ARM, as used in Acorn RISC, Psion etc., related to the StrongARM (from Intel I think?). Thanks.

    Ditto the error on a Solaris box. I've tried various versions of Netscape but to no avail. Could be something to do with the firewall?

    Anyone got a solution?

    Now that constitutes dragging their feet.

    What we should do is do a Microsoft on Microsoft. That is we run a completely different test on a different system and then we claim that we have fulfilled their requirements, just as they did on the Oracle Challenge. That will certainly be a laugh!

    I apologise if anyone's suggested this before, but perhaps what's needed is a HOWTO for performance tuning of high-end servers, with a special mention that benchmarkers are advised to adhere to the information in the document.

  8. LSF != beowulf on Fermi's 2000 Node Beowulf Cluster · · Score: 1

    I stand corrected but there is no such sofware known as "Beowulf", it is just a specification. The packages which parallelize the cluster is PVM and MPI.

  10. does this count as a "Beowulf" cluster: on Fermi's 2000 Node Beowulf Cluster · · Score: 1

    I feel the term is used very loosely. From what I can tell all beowulf clusters tend to run PVM and MPI and some load balancing software. But the definition of Beowulf itself specifies that the cluster has got to be made up of commodity components. I just call my cluster a cluster. Words/names like "Beowulf" or "Supercomputer" confuses definitions. Many supercomputer purists do not rate Beowulfs in the same league mainly due to the architecture....the term "distributed computing" comes to mind.

    Last I read MOSIX wasn't open sourced. I wouldn't trust anything on linux which isn't open sourced, especially kernel modules. What is there to stop binaries from taking over my computer (and privacy) when I'm not watching?

  12. Forget that nonsense! Woooooo Beowulf! on Fermi's 2000 Node Beowulf Cluster · · Score: 1

    Hmmm...a Beowulf cluster is just a cluster running either PVM and MPI. The only new definition is that Beowulfs are made of commodity components. I think the term itself is used very loosely....if my solaris network run's PVM and MPI then why isn't it a beowulf?!

    How do you define a biased source? Is a humor site biased because it provides humourous articles? Slashdot has NEVER been a source of FUD against Microsoft (I stand corrected!). Unfortunately Microsoft seems to use their own controlled press for spreading FUD against linux. So that's free speech I guess.....
