Come back when you have a better understanding of chemistry and micro biology.

I think you missed their point entirely. The Swedes do not criminalize trivial or idiotic things like the US. Or if they do, they do not enforce the laws as stringently where as the US is ramping up its mandatory minimum sentences.

With that, the Swedish government could theoretically hold this position and do it well without infringing on anyone's freedoms and not criminalizing anything. If the US government instituted a similar program, the penalties would be huge fines and drone strikes on citizens.

That being said, I don't think any government should have control over video game rating systems. It's something trivial and has no place in legislation.

  7. Oligarchy refers to the organization of the government, socialism to how it handles economic activities. The two are mutually exclusive. Between welfare, medicaid, medicare, government subsidized health insurance, food stamps, disability, tax rebates, subsidized cell phones and internet plans, and many more programs, we live in a socialist society. Most people disagree because the rich don't pay as much into this system but that's because its an oligarchy. Those in power are redistributing the middle class wealth to the poor.

Saying the world sucks, people suck, and there is nothing we can do about it is pointless. Apathy towards the worlds problems is a big part of the reason we are in such a mess.

Capitalism lends itself more to self interest, playing off human behavior. That is why I think its the better choice. Its not perfect, but at least I'll take a stand and try to make the world a better place.

While I am a libertarian, I also strongly disagree with a privatized prison system. It needs to be held accountable to the people.

That being said, while for profit prisons bring their own issues, the aforementioned problem is a political one. Using the typical party lines, republicans are for punishment and democrats for rehabilitation. However since this isn't a hot button issue, you tend to find more bleeding across party lines. Another important issue with the prison system stems for the judiciary branch. Its hard to walk down the street now a days without breaking some law. Criminalizing every activity we've criminalized the American population.

While I agree with you on the monetization of prisons, I bring up these other issues because without understanding the whole picture, we cannot hope to solve the problem.

The US prison system is very disjointed. Depending who you ask its either about punishment or rehabilitation. One of those two has a statistically proven track record for reducing crime. God forbid the US use statistical evidence to make political decisions to better the country. With that, the US prison system sits somewhere between the two and does nothing well besides making it harder for criminals to renter society.

I think Suddenlink did the right thing and told Viacom to go f themselves, found new content and didn't raise customer prices. Thank you. People fail to realize healthcare is a limited resource. You can give everyone health insurance but you can't give everyone healthcare. Its just not feasible, yet. A perfect example is organ transplant waiting lists.

Now with the addition of more people, these resources are even scarcer. So who gets that heart transplant? The 9-5er who had health insurance and has contributed a lot of time and effort to society or the newly added single mother of seven on food stamps and well fare.

Im using that anecdote to segue into the larger issue of political ideology, mainly capitalism vs socialism. Fundamentally, capitalism is the idea that those who produce in a society reap the benefits of living in it were as socialism everyone benefits equally (one could argue those who don't work benefit the most from socialism as they still get the same quality of living as everyone else with no effort). As this applies to healthcare, I think those who work should be first in line for healthcare.

Before anyone tries to use the US as an example of corrupt failed capitalism, I'd like to add we are more a socialist oligarchy. This is ultimately the shortcoming of Democracy in a country full of voter apathy, not socialism or capitalism.

The hormones testosterone and estrogen have a direct effect on cognitive behavior. One study of note, marked the differences between genetic abnormalities XXX and YY chromosomes. People with either of these have a substantial increase in estrogen and testosterone, respectively. Those with excess testosterone tend to be more aggressive and overtly hostile while those with excess estrogen, more nurturing and empathetic.

Now neither of these play into cognitive ability, but they are a clear difference in the way these two groups think. There are always outliers to a group so this doesn't fit 100% of people, but my point is a push to have a 50/50 split of the workforce in any industry is idiotic and counter productive. As you said, all people are different and they will find their own calling. We have no need as a society to push people into a category to meet a quota.

We should've focused focused on that decades ago and celebrated our differences.
