  1. At Last on The Docking Station Meets The MP3 Player · · Score: 1

Someone has finally produced a non-freakshow car + home mp3 player. I imagine that this product will do very well.

I agree that Mitnick engauged in criminal activity. But he also did his time in prison for it.

Not letting him use computers is (I guess) understandable, because of the amount of damage he caused. But not letting him talk about computers? Come on, that's just spite.

  5. OEM == SOL on Transmeta Receives $88 Million In Funding · · Score: 2

If I remember correctly, in the initial release Transmeta said something about the chips being made available only to manufacturers. The question is, are they going to use all the new loot to ramp up production, and if so, can John Q. Linux (ha) get his hands on one?

"Of course, life will be so purposeless that people will have to be biologically or psychologically engineered either to remove their need for the power process or make them "sublimate" their drive for power into some harmless hobby."

With all of the references to Michaelangelo, this statement really stuck me as odd. The author is stating that without mundane tasks (work / job) to do, that everyone would be bored and useless. Hardly. That would be when humans would have a chance to explore the mind, the arts, the stars and everything else that we dont have time for right now because of Business Meetings and Sales Promotions and programming crunches etc.

With all of the references to Star Trek, I thought that this connection would be made clear. Trek always says how "they did away with money, and hunge, and need" etc. Exactly. Let the bot fix my transmission. I wanna play music or some such thing.

  7. Dubious Statements on MCSE Revolt Over NT4-W2K Plans · · Score: 0

"They are the best trained group of networking professionals on the planet; the world listens to them, and follows their advice and insight."

That statement is quite a pile of sh*t. Marketroids and PHB's may hang on their every word, but I have met quite a few morons that, through rote memorization, have scored their MCSE. I respect someone who has 10 years field experience much more than someone with 1 year and a MickeySoft cert.

OK, though I dont like Katz, I was hoping that this interview would provide him a platform to change his image in my and many others eyes.

Instead, I get a 4742 word article. Come on. Even though I am at work, I dont have the patience nor the inclination to read something that long by someone I already dislike.

In my eyes, this was a total strikeout.

    Mr Vranesevich:

Having read many accounts of your interactions with the staff of attrition.org, it seems to me that your claims against them are generally unproven and rash. Their rebuttals are always filled with detailed fact and systematic, step by step analysis of the topic at hand. Please clarify why you feel that attrition.org is such a dangerous force, yet you have neer been able to present HARD EVIDENCE to that point.
