Fate sure does make some arbitrary choices. Saving a system of hundreds of LEO satellites that no one really used and will probably never be of any use, but ditching a well-used space station when we're throwing dozens of billions of dollars into a brand new one?
For a while, this is the reason i have claimed I do not have a laptop:
"If I get onto a plane with my laptop and a hub and a couple friends, I want to be able to play CS/Q3A/TDR2k at a decent resolution and framerate. When this is possible, I will purchase a laptop."
It looks like I'm going to have to buy a laptop sometime soon.
Since the patch is only in the beta release stage, you can make an argument that it is too early to denounce Id for their lack of warning. In fact, anyone who downloads and installs a beta patch without expecting problems deserves whatever they get.
Kenny Baker will be in Ep2, but then again so will a CGI R2D2. Kenny Baker has been quoted as saying "Of course I am disappointed. I missed the
chance to go to Australia with the cast. I'm not in the movie to the extent I was expecting and no one has really explained to me why... George Lucas always told me that R2D2 really came alive when I was inside him. If they don't use human beings these movies are in danger of looking like
Disney cartoons... The progress in digital and computer technology has been frightening. It was light years on from when I was in the first Star Wars movie." (from Cinescape). He will be in it, but not as much as in Ep1, and certainly not as much as in the Original Trilogy.

I attend RPI. Computer Science majors here are required to take a class called "Computer Organization", which is a combination of computer history and the fundamental architecture of processors and memory and such. The two subjects go well together, because as we learn what cache is and how it makes stuff faster, we can learn about Von Neumann. I would be surprised if there wasn't a similar class in many other colleges.
The problem is you weren't trying to post the truth. First, there are many languages more poorly-designed than Perl. Second, if you were intending that post as anything besides flamebait, you would have supported the claim that Perl is badly designed by saying, oh, "hidden context dependencies lead to horribly unreadable code", or some such fact.
Note: I love Perl, but I understand that other people may not love Perl. But it's not fair to say "Perl Sux!" without having anything to back it up. I also didn't list any languages more poorly-designed than Perl because I didn't feel like following my second point.
it's just you. of the past 10 book reviews, only two have been o'reilly (this one, and the user friendly book). Twenty percent may seem like a lot, but then again they make lots of quality books on lots of topics.
Lots of people are saying the same things: why buy it? You need an outlet and a monitor (not to mention a keyboard and a mouse and a usb network card), so its not exactly a portable. It has no room for expansion, so its not exactly a desktop. It's too expensive for a thin client, so why would anyone want to buy it?
When I first saw the espresso, I thought one thing: "LAN Party". This would be (almost) the ultimate LAN Party box. Imagine walking into a LAN party with a 15" LCD, a happy hacker keyboard, and a 4"x6" machine. Quite the envy, methinks. The biggest downside: no hardware 3d. But for the Quaker or the Half-Lifer, thats not much of an issue.
I wouldnt mind the extra inch of depth for a PCI/AGP slot. I wouldnt even mind an extra $50 or $100 on the price tag. And I'm sure there are plenty of gamers out there who would agree.
Sorry to tell you this, buddy, but most "Linux zealots" are not the dirty-hippy late-arriving slackers that you assume they are. I have a respectable haircut and I work 8am to 6pm every weekday. The fact that you met one admin who was dirty and made this assumption is a huge statement about your character. Please let me know where you work so I can be sure to stay far away.
An employee who spends his hours playing Quake deserves to be fired no matter what his haircut (unless, of course, he works for id).
We, as "old school" computer users should be outraged by this use of color. We demand our monotonous matte beige swiss army knives! Email Victorinox now!

I got sick of looking for more, but I think you get the idea. Trademarks are everywhere, and for all intents and purposes do not stand in the way of Open Source Software(TM)
Maybe we could reconfigure Hugh so that he would use this hypothetical "Recursive Perl" instead of the standard Perl, and he'd bring it back to the Borg collective, at which point it would spread and infect every Borg in the galaxy, and eventually their ships would grind to a halt and all of the Borg would suffocate from the lack of NOOPs.
Yes, I believe this is a clever plan.. does anyone have any qualms about committing genocide using Recursive Perl?
i agree with yarn. one of the biggest things that Mir was set up to determine was the best way for long-term human inhabitation of space. Russia's cosmonaut screening and training programs are the best thing to come out of Mir.. altho i haven't heard about any other scientific projects going on Mir.. but that doesnt mean there werent any..
Mir is still liveable.. the only issue is the ISS, and Russia's ability to keep Mir in space while building parts for the ISS. The US is on Russia's ass to get rid of Mir every time they say there will be another delay in the next Space Station part..
he doesnt use the word 'virtually'. he says it is 'impossible'.
1) Hardcore players who died between Dec 19 and Jan 1 will be revived and reset to their December 19th status
2) There will be a way to "flag your character" to be restored to the December 19th status if you believed you lost items/gold unfairly
Both of these things will take place next monday, on the 8th of January apparently.
Only John Flansburgh wrote in the answers. I suppose they flipped a coin, and Flans won (or lost, depending on how you look at it)
and now they're even older.
"OSX is the best!" vs. "Get rid of elitist attitudes!"
I would agree with you, but you're a hypocrite, so I'm going to find someone else with similar opinions to agree with.

Read again. Not 512k. Is 512 CHARACTERS. Been working on cramming game in 512 chars for 12 hours.
Don't trust anyone with a Slashdot ID# over 30.
Sure it's sarcasm, but this is ironic coming from User #11149.
you normally stand up when you read slashdot?
