He didn't mean that Asimov wrote Ender's Game. It was part of the list. It just happens that it's between "all of Asimov" and one of Asimov's most well-known series.
It's almost funny that you're so adamant about pointing out Slashdot's mistakes, that you didn't even realize it was a stinking joke! He was mocking the differences in spelling and pronunciation between the two countries.
You really think this is serious? Has the pun really gone over your heads?
... Now, the game is coming to GameCube, a system with more bits, which results in larger words filled with more characters who have more lines of dialogue....
And since when has 'ASCII' made controllers? And doesnt "This is not a joke." make it an even more obvious joke?
I spent a lot of time inside an Exodus facility myself (in Jersey City, NJ). I have to say that it was ugly. Exactly what I expected, and wanted, in a hosting facility. Their tech support was real friendly and helpful too. And those "palm scanners" are really pretty cheap. I've worked at retail stores that used the same model.
Here's hoping exodus stays afloat. Like I said, the people who worked there were really great.
I don't see how Nintendo owes you an apology. If you dislike your GBA that much, most stores have return policies even on opened merchandise. No one forced you to purchase one. You decided that it was worth the expense to own a high-quality portable device. Granted, the lack of reasonable built-in lighting a big problem and I think Nintendo dropped the ball on that and I'm confused how Nintendo of all companies could have missed it in play testing. But that doesn't make Nintendo "bad", and it doesn't mean they owe anybody anything. They made a kicking portable game platform, and if you aren't happy with it, bring it back or sell it on ebay.
How soon we forget! You can get the source to Windows CE and modify it to do whatever you want (not BSOD, for example). And IIRC, you can distribute any modified code, as long as it isnt for commercial use.
Wouldn't it be much simpler to linux-ify Windows CE, than to CE-ify Linux?
The reason this isn't being reported as the travesty it truly is is that the public doesn't really understand copyright issues or the DMCA, and they don't really care either. The public would hear this story and think "So, a hacker(sic) got arrested for hacking a product. He was arrested under federal law, and he's now in jail. I hated it when my files were deleted by the virus, so these laws are a good thing."
Stupid Slashdot. I tell it i want "Plain Old Text", but it still thinks < and > surround tags, and that < and > are symbol codes. Sigh.
My middle paragraph should read: Unfortunately, the Lycos bug is exactly the opposite. Instead of them taking < and >s, and failing to turn them into < and >, the problem is that Lycos is finding web pages with < and >, and turning them into < and >, thus changing non-HTML into HTML. A much less common problem, and also one it seems like they have TRIED to create. Why parse the HTML symbol codes into the symbols they represent? It's a strange bug, and its obscurity is why it's taken so long to come to light.
Great job, you really addressed 90% of the issues with stupid CGI programmers. I have dealt with the same problem in CGI that I've "inherited", and it's a pain in the ass to see such a simple exploit go unpatched.

One thing to note, though, is that this bug probably would have been found months, if not years, ago if Lycos was OSS.
The life expectancy for an American in 1998 (most recent available statistics) is 76.7. The numbers fall between 75 and 80 for most citizens of western Europe, and is only slightly lower for those of eastern Europe and most of Asia. Therefore, 40 is an accurate average halfway-point for most humans.
If you had actually done some research, you would know that Outlook is not required for the SirCam virus to replicate. It has its own SMTP capabilities coded in, and it searches the hard drive for files containing email addresses.
Don't be so quick to insult someone for their choice of software when you don't even know what you're talking about.
You are such an idiot. Jack wasn't willing to pay $10, he was willing to pay $2. And Jill wasn't willing to pay any money. So the only person who still wanted it was Joe, who would pay $10. Charging $5 for it lost two customers (Jack and Jill).
Either pay attention next time, or go back to second grade and brush up on the fundamentals.
The reason that nintendo stuck with the "crap green screen" so long is that they had 90% of the portable gaming market. What would be the point of spending the millions necessary to create a new gaming device when you already control almost the entire market? What would it get them? Nothing! They actually started such a project several times, tossing it each time (until the GBA, which was propelled forward by its interconnectivity to the NGC).
What's beyond me is why they started making GameBoy Colors.
I can honestly say that this was the best movie I've ever seen. Jon thinks that the ending was anti-climactic and cheesy, but in fact it was a daring twist on Leonard's relationships with everyone in the film. You think you know who everyone is, but then every 20 minutes you have to look back and think "now why did he do this, really?" For the past two weeks, I've been thinking about the movie and how complex and profession it was. I tell strangers to see this movie. See this movie.
As is instantly evident to anyone who reads the page, it's not called the "E-cliner". It's called the "Explorer". E-cliner is just a lame pun they use to describe it.
I imagine this name was Microsoft's idea, because anything internet-related seems to have this same name: Internet Explorer, MSN Explorer, now the La-Z-Boy Explorer.. why can't they come up with a new name once in a while?
DEC made an RTS? Was it any good? I enjoy Starcraft and Alpha Centauri, do you think I'd like it?
On the contrary. I think his criticism was perfectly appropriate considering that his career depends on the quality of the aforementioned submissions.

Did they grep the ATI drivers to see if infact there was a reference anywhere to quake?
I think a better question is "Did you even read the article?" They talk a lot about grepping and hex editing and retesting.
Gasp! Shades of Sluggy Freelance!
Sure, pure Aluminum might burn, but it's most likely an alloy of some sort.

One could assume that you're not a grammar consultant.

And actually, neither can Jim Ellis. Steve Bellovin, Tom Truscott, and Steve Daniel helped.

You quote a professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering, and then you contribute his mistake to corporate hype?
I'd say his doctorate should be stripped.
