More durable? I've rented 'ancient' VHS titles at video stores, and rarely been unable to view them, yet have returned several DVDs due to relatively minor imperfections that prevented me from playing them.
I have the dubious pleasure of having two 2-way splitters and one 3-way splitter before my cable modem, but it works with 1.5Mb/256kb thru dslreports.com speed tests. It's been this way for nearly a year.
I did have a problem with a splitter, though, that caused service interruption until I replaced it. Modem couldn't even synch up... Radio Shack to the rescue!
Did you read the article you linked to? It says that while some customers would see an increase, a far larger number of customers had a decrease in upload speeds.
I wonder whether it's wise to use a magnetised screwdriver near a computer case, as ocaddiction.com seems to suggest... seems like the same kind of problem as having permanent markers near a white-board - it's only a matter of time before someone uses the wrong tool for the job...
Oh, and "buy a decent case" seems like pretty good advice to me - I certainly prefer my Antec over the several cheap-and-nasty cases I also have, even though it's not quiet - try here for components with less-noise-more-money...
