You need to run Windows if you don't want to spend all your time replicating what these 2 products already do at a very reasonable price. Net Nanny makes sure that they only go where you let them at the times that you deem appropriate as well as monitor chats and social sites as they get older. Kidzui is a really great kid's web browser that already takes them to all the good kids stuff on the web.
Seriously...I grew up in NJ...I was sick all the f'ing time...I was picked on all the f'ing time...I was WAY smaller than everybody my age and WAY smarter. Here is the deal, I had mono-nucleosus twice and that is supposed to be impossible...I was sick all the freaking time going in and out of hospitals and at one point they thought I had a wierd form of AIDS that they couldn't detect yet. I wound up being one of the first diagnosed cases of Epstien Barr syndrome and well there is not one damn thing you can do about it. So what did I do...I stopped feeling sorry for myself got off my ass and started making things happen for myself...I started to demand that people pay attention to me instead of being a passive doormat and I started to just force myself to do things no matter how bad or sick I felt...and you know what....I am a normal human being now with a normal life...I am 6'2 and I am very athletic...and I am not athletically gifted at all but I keep trying at something till I get it no matter how stupid I look in the process...Get a freaking spine...Seriously...Get off your ass and start f'ing doing something no matter how bad you feel. or how small it is. Self-loathing and self-pity are disease unto themselves...don't tell me I don't know because I haven't been in your shoes, I was you and probably much worse. I was out of school with mono for 6 months once when I was in 5th grade and then again when I was in 8th. This guy is just running a scam and needs a kick in his ass!
Ahh your right about the 3B20 and 3B21...I was pulling stuff from my memory.
No I was never a member of NESAC. I don't even know what that is.
The now defunt company was call Pacific Access and they sold and installed TOLD. Which stands for "Terminal and On-Line Documentation". What was it? It was a PC with up to 6 CD-ROMs to hold the 5ESS On-Line Documentation CDs. A serial mux that hooked up to the 9600 baud terminal, the two 4800 baud terminals, and the ROP (Read Only Printer). It ran SCO, and all was, was a bunch of icons on the X desktop that allowed the operator to access the terminals through an X-Term using tip, run the appropriate program to read the doc CDs, and capture the ROP output to awk/sed the backup tape labels out and print them. The company sold what was essentially a PC, SCO, a few scripts, a laser printer, a desk (the desk was essential because it kept everything neat...notice the sarcasim here), and installation for 25-60k! This is the number one reason why I never ever want to hear about a telcom bitch about money troubles. They were able to sell this to Bell South for this much because 3-4 of our employees which were higher ups were ex Bell South employees, and hence were part of the Good Ol' Boys network. We sold so many of these things it was sickening! It was an absolute raping of the telco who in turn would rape their customers for more money. I know we also sold these things to PacBell. I think the only baby bell that didn't buy these was Bell Atlantic/Verizon because...and I am not kidding you here..."Them damn Yankees don't deserve something this good."
Grr this whole topic just gets me way too worked up.
I used to install TOLD systems in Bell South's COs and all electicity coming into those places gets converted to DC, run through a boatload of WWII style Sub batteries and converted back to AC where need for some of the more modern equipment, but not much. (I tried to steer clear of the rapidly bubbling batteries). Anyway this is a server enviroment that is built on the military and technology requirements of the WWII era, and hasn't changed since then. Heck 4 years ago they were just upgrading from AT&T/Lucent 3B24s to 3B25s (yes AT&T/Lucent still make a unix box they just call it a 5ESS switch, it's real time too).. What was the big difference, they were moving from reel to reel to 5mm DATs. Heck one place I was at they were just finishing the replacement of a 1A1 switch which used punchcards and rotary switches.
It's not so much that the OS needs to be approved of those requiremnts as it is the hardware. Problem is Bell South's thinking when it comes to this stuff is so stuck in a time warp they can't separate the two. Pretty good move actually because once they approve of something it usually takes them between 25 - 50 years to end of life stuff. Can you say support contract boys and girls? There you go good!
1) The United States has the worst government in the world...if you get rid of all the others. 2) Corporations already have more power in the world than some smaller countries. With the current merger rate how long will it be before they start catching up with larger countries. Who has more power in the world GE or Peru?? In my opinion the only reason to belong to a country or governmental system is for protection. Most corporations feel no threat from anyone in the world except their competitors. There was a time when doing buisness in another country was very risky, you were just as likely to have your goods stolen as you were to sell them. A country could protect you and hence you paid them tax (protection money). A good example would be the shipping industry. When there was an every present threat of attack from a rival countries, corporations needed countries to protect them. Now a days that the US pretty much protects EVERYBODY, and with no real threat of attack, almost every ship I have seen is registered in some podunk country like Panama, which has the lowest per ton registration fee. In other words corporations don't need governments anymore and they realize this, the general public does not seee this, mainly because the corporations have the government do their nasty dirty work, by paying off politians, hence the government looks bad. Seriously if a big corporation wanted to clear cut the whole rain forest all they really have to do is hire enough mercenaries to take over a large chunk of Brazil. The reason they don't do this and why it is infeasable is that there would be a world wide public out cry. So they do it with slight of hand by taking it piece by piece through the government and the government let's them because they know they are lucky to be getting something, anything from the corporations.

I will now get off my soap box
