Spot on. Even my 65 year old mom tells me to "Google xyz" when she calls me to find out some obscure info (the last one being why the Seattle Mariner's mascot was a moose).
Have you upgraded to Lion yet? So far the only thing I've had to reboot for was system updates. Before, the network would eventually go wonky, using my A/V software heavily would end up thrashing the system, etc. Lion seems to repair itself nicely if I just quit the A/V software, and then I can start those up and be back to normal. Just a thought.
Of course Phillip Dick's story is relevant, but I'm not sure anyone in DHS has an attention span of more than "He looks like a bad guy," much less reading a novel.
I wonder if the new show 'Person of Interest' gave them some ideas, since TV shows come in easy to digest 8 minute chunks? Not a bad show, by the way (I gloss over the technical details while watching it).
Which is why I made sure to qualify "better" as "making money." If I left it as just "better," all kinds of things would come up, like Linux support, etc.
More worried about MS screwing it up somehow, just like the cliche that every new manager needs to put his "mark" on his new team? I'm worried about paperclips asking me questions, pop up windows asking if I'm "sure you want to really write that IM?", do you "really trust your wife" calling you, and the blue phone of death. (Did I miss any?)
Actually, I think you hit on a good point. It has to do with what is our viewpoint and framework we work in. And your last sentence brings up a fun saying one of my math/tech profs liked to use- "Things get interesting in boundary areas."
I like the optional comment section in the form. I put in things like "I have a big dong" "I am a teacup" etc., and it still comes out the same. So then I changed my birth year to 1880- yep, same exact stuff. Even better, you get stuff like "you are very reserved, except when you want to have fun," and "you are very meticulous, except when you just take a leap."
And people somehow believe this stuff.... (well, besides me being a teacup with a big dong)
Chewbacca Offense? "Your Honor, Chewbacca is not an Ewok, and that makes no sense! Therefore our lawsuit makes no sense, so you must agree with the plaintiff!" (sorry for the manglement of the actual quote)
"yeah, we knew about it, but we didn't fucking care until he lost a bunch of money. Then we sorta cared, but pushed all the losses off onto our customers, so no, we still don't fucking care.
"Being able to express a contrary opinion while retaining popular support is a skill." Really? Ever try saying you believe in religion or God in context of an article (something about a religion vs. state article awhile back)? Good luck, you'll be down-modded so fast it happens before you even post. Not to mention all the fun, fun responses you get.
It wasn't like I was trying to espouse anything. Someone asked "Do you believe in God?" I foolishly said yes. Apparently some beliefs on/. are atuo "Flamebait" "Troll" and "Over Rated."
My point was it was the government that originally said they wouldn't never use SS #s as a primary identifier. Basically, what I meant was I don't trust any group/company in power that "promises" something. Now can I do anything about it.....?
I agree with what you say. The price of doing things on the internet is now nearly zero, discounting your time. I am of course not talking about big commercial endeavors. The other side of that is, like you said, you're competing with a whole lot more people now. Same ol', same ol', keep plugging away and you'll find your spot.
Really depends on how bad the old house is, and how much the new houses cost. In my area, a decent old house could save some money. But like you said, time and energy (as in doing the work) are also expenses.
As for their claims, either the house was built on top of a giant iron meteorite or they have some electrical wiring problem.
But what popped out of the article to me was what you quoted. I'm no lawyer, but there has to be some illegal about signing something that has conditions added later unless those conditions are signed on when presented later. I imagine Doug Adams writing something like this- "Why did you bulldoze my new house?!" "It was in the contract that we could use the materials for scrap." "Where in the contract?!?!" "Oh, in a separate document we drew up later, and put it someplace else, protected by a puma." "Warrgghhlshhhaaaa....."
This is more of a quality issue, but when you mentioned "how well the cast and crew," I immediately thought of "it's mostly been going downhill for a while." When Ben Affleck and Carmeron Diaz are considered big stars, I go back to "Singin' in the Rain" with Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor. Where we now have Eli Roth, I think Hitchcock or Ridley Scott.
As for the quantity, there may or may not be more movies made than in the past (I'm not going to go look that up), but one thing that has happened is that lots of movies are way more expensive to make now then before (including inflation).
Never noticed he left. But he had no wireless, and was lame.
Yep, if you're going to screw something up, go big. Oh, the songs they will write....

If you could also bring rubber gloves, that would also be appreciated.

Just be happy it wasn't "BING," the results would be "Windows 7 faster than neutrinos."
Pictures of his hair. That would never be anonymous.

Oops, sorry, that's for a spreadsheet. Got a bit mixed up there for a second.
I'd love to see them come up with a DB format that hasn't been used a thousand times already. May SHIFT-F-F6- deliminated?

You have to pay extra for that.

By the way, love your sig.
I've seen houses made with metal beams instead of wood, but those are probably aluminum, not steel.

I thought Apple dropped the DRM from their music a few years back?
