from 1994-2006 (during which time that deficit reduction you mentioned occurred)

You appear to have your facts a little bit crossed up. The deficit reduction started in 1993 after the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 (aka "Deficit Reduction Act of 1993) was passed. Not one Republican voted for the bill, and Al Gore ended up having to cast the tie breaking vote to push it through.

The deficit immediately started to rise in 2002 after the Bush Tax cuts went into effect.

As for 2006, by the time the Democrats took control of congress the budget deficit has almost reached it peak under the Bush administration, so you are essentially blaming the Democratic congress for what happened before they took power.

As for Obama, he inherited a 1.2 trillion dollar deficit from the Bush administration. I believe current projections have the deficit at 1.6 trillion, with Obama's contribution being largely the result of the stimulus.

Other states (like mine - CA) require double drains for all private pools too. My pool (built in 1978) doesn't have one in the main pool but it does in the spa. The suction in the main area of my pool is relatively low due to the distance from the pump, so it doesn't pose a danger, but the spa which is very close to the pump would be extremely dangerous without the double drain. Regardless, if I ever do any construction on the pool I will be required to retrofit the main pool's drain.

He probably did, but in the context of the discussion, it doesn't matter. What matters is that the latest stable Debian release didn't work and the latest stable Ubuntu release did. I had a similar experience recently with Debian. I have an engineering lab which runs Debian. When it came time to replace the computers, Lenny didn't support the network or video drivers on the new Intel Chipset. I was able to get the network driver compiled and working, but the video driver was a different story. The VESA driver would have been fine, but though it worked with several other monitors I tried, with the particular monitor being used in the lab, the screen would not display properly at the native resolution. After wrestling it with it for a couple of days I said fuck it and installed Ubuntu and everything just worked.

I could have eventually figured it out, but that little lab is one of dozens and labs are but a portion of my job responsibilities, so I didn't have the time.

Another option is simply using Debian Stable with a backported kernel [kmuto.jp].

That might have been helpful had I run across that in my searches. I found countless posts by people with the same issue as me but never a mention of that site.
